To enable these features, check your channel’s access in YouTube Studio, meet YouTube’s baseline requirements, and confirm that each video and feature is eligible.
How Super Chat, Super Stickers, and memberships differ

Super Chat and Super Stickers are available on eligible live streams and Premieres. Memberships are a continuing community-perk arrangement; they are not a way to highlight one message during a particular stream. Neither model is universally better: they serve different kinds of audience participation.

What creators need before turning on fan funding
YouTube’s Commerce Products monetization policies set baseline conditions for fan-funding features. A creator must be at least 18, be in the YouTube Partner Program (YPP), live in a location where the individual feature is supported, accept the applicable Commerce Product Module or previously accepted Commerce Product Addendum, and comply with the relevant terms and policies. Each feature must also be enabled in YouTube Studio. The feature-specific rules and availability can differ, so YPP participation by itself does not guarantee access. Review YouTube’s Commerce Products monetization policies and the current feature guidance for your location.

YPP thresholds are not the same as feature approval
YouTube’s monetization overview, accessed in 2026, lists an expanded YPP tier with 500 subscribers, three public uploads in the preceding 90 days, and either 3,000 qualifying public watch hours on long-form videos in the preceding 365 days or 3 million qualifying public Shorts views in the preceding 90 days. The page associates memberships, Supers, Super Thanks, and Shopping with this tier, subject to each feature’s own criteria.
The same overview lists a separate tier at 1,000 subscribers and either 4,000 qualifying public watch hours on long-form videos in the preceding 365 days or 10 million qualifying public Shorts views in the preceding 90 days, alongside additional monetization features. These are program thresholds, not a promise that any particular feature is available to every qualifying channel. Requirements can change; check the current YouTube monetization overview and the Earn section in Studio before planning around them.

How to check access and turn on Super Chat or memberships
- Open YouTube Studio and select Earn. Check the channel’s current monetization status and any feature cards shown there. YouTube says eligible creators can find Supers in this area.
- Review the feature’s requirements. Confirm that the channel is in YPP, the creator meets the age requirement, the feature is supported in the creator’s location, and the applicable Commerce Product Module or prior Addendum has been accepted.
- Open the relevant feature card and follow Studio’s prompts. Enable the feature if it is offered, and complete any applicable terms or setup steps. Available controls can depend on the channel and feature; use the prompts shown for your account rather than assuming a setting appears for everyone.
- Check the individual stream or video. For Supers, confirm live chat or comments are on and that the video is not in a restricted category listed below. A channel-level feature being enabled does not remove video-level restrictions.
For memberships, use the memberships card and the current Studio setup flow to review the channel-specific perks and eligibility. YouTube’s general monetization policy establishes the recurring monthly payment model, but does not establish every available price level or every channel’s complete eligibility. Check what Studio offers to your account.
What viewers see—and what they are buying
A Super Chat is a paid message highlight: viewers pay for a message to stand out in live chat, and some messages may be pinned near the top. A Super Sticker is a paid animated image surfaced in the chat. Both are individual purchases connected to a live stream or Premiere, rather than recurring access.

A channel membership instead renews monthly in exchange for perks selected by the creator. A viewer considering one should check the channel’s stated perks and terms; a viewer buying a Super is supporting a specific live-chat interaction. YouTube describes these mechanics in its Commerce Products monetization policies.
Why Super Chat or Stickers may be unavailable
YouTube’s current eligibility and policy page says Super Chat and Super Stickers are unavailable for a video if it is age-restricted, unlisted, private, Made for Kids, or a YouTube Giving fundraiser. They are also unavailable when live chat or comments are turned off. Location restrictions apply as well; supported locations can change, so check the current Super Chat and Super Stickers eligibility, availability, and policies page.

- The feature card is missing in Studio: check YPP status, age and location requirements, acceptance of the relevant Commerce Product terms, and the current feature-specific criteria.
- The feature is enabled, but absent on one stream: check the stream’s visibility, audience designation, age restriction, fundraiser status, and live-chat/comment settings.
- A viewer in another region cannot use it: availability can depend on geography. Consult YouTube’s current location information rather than treating access in one country as worldwide.
Creator earnings, responsibility, and policy limits
YouTube explicitly says, “Super Chat and Super Stickers aren’t crowdfunding or donation tools.” Do not present either product as a donation or promise how a viewer’s payment will be treated for tax or legal purposes. YouTube also says creators must comply with applicable laws. Its policy states that if YouTube removes a violating Super, its portion of the revenue is donated to charity; this is not a general charity feature or a substitute for following the rules.
The official pages cited here do not establish a current creator revenue-share percentage for Super Chat, Stickers, or memberships. Do not estimate earnings from a payment amount using an assumed split. For current terms and policy details, refer to YouTube’s Supers policy page and Commerce Products policies.
