Your 24/7 schedule does not give a copyright strike a separate deadline. Check the strike notice email or YouTube Studio for the date the strike was applied; YouTube’s ordinary expiry route is 90 days from that date, provided you complete Copyright School and have fewer than three copyright strikes. If the notice says “Copyright – Pending takedown,” that is a different stage: you generally have seven days to act before removal and a strike.
First, confirm whether it is a claim, a pending takedown, or an active strike
These statuses have different consequences. YouTube says, “Copyright claims are different from copyright strikes.” A Content ID claim typically does not result in a strike; an accepted copyright removal request can remove the content and apply one. - Content ID claim: Check the item’s details in Studio. A claim by itself is not a copyright strike.
- Copyright – Pending takedown: The removal is scheduled, and the seven-day response window may still be open.
- Active copyright strike: The content has been removed following a copyright removal request, and the strike’s post-application options and expiry route apply.
How to check the strike and its deadline
- Read the YouTube email. Find the notice explaining the removal and whether it is scheduled or already applied. YouTube identifies its copyright-strike notice email as coming from
[email protected]. Check the full message for the affected content and available actions. - Open YouTube Studio. On the Dashboard, look for Active copyright strikes to review the channel’s status.
- Open the affected item’s details. Go to Content, filter by Copyright, find the removed video, hover over Copyright in the Restrictions column, then choose See details.
- Record the application date. For an active strike, use the date shown in the account record or notice as the starting point for the ordinary 90-day route. The public policy page cannot tell you the deadline for your specific channel.
If you cannot access Studio, use the strike-notification email. Do not estimate a date from the video’s publication date, a live-stream schedule, or the date a claim first appeared.

A scheduled removal is not the same as an active strike. YouTube’s scheduled-takedown process gives the uploader seven days to act before the content is removed and a strike is applied. Follow the choices and deadline stated in your notice.

- Deleting the content during the scheduled window may avoid the strike. Deleting it after a strike has been applied does not clear that strike.
- You may seek a retraction from the claimant. A retraction during the scheduled window may avoid the strike.
- If the removal request followed a rejected Content ID appeal, canceling that appeal during the scheduled window may also avoid the strike.

What happens after a strike is applied
Ordinary expiry: 90 days and Copyright School
YouTube’s ordinary expiry route is 90 days from the date the strike was applied, with Copyright School completed. YouTube’s guidance also says the channel must have fewer than three copyright strikes for this route. Verify the application date in Studio or the notice and complete Copyright School through the channel’s YouTube account. The date is case-specific; do not assume that the channel’s continuous schedule changes the clock.

Retraction by the claimant
You can ask the claimant to retract the removal request. This is a separate resolution path from waiting for expiry, and it depends on the claimant’s response. Use the contact and case information in the notice; do not assume a request has been retracted until YouTube’s account record reflects the change.

Counter notification
A counter notification is a legal request, not a routine way to extend or bypass a deadline. YouTube describes it as an option when the creator believes the removal was mistaken or the content is covered by a copyright exception. Preserve relevant records and review the legal implications before submitting one; consider legal advice for a complex dispute. YouTube explains the process at Counter notification basics and Submit a counter notification. The process guidance does not decide whether a particular use is lawful.

Check live-stream access separately
A strike’s expiry date and permission to livestream are separate issues. YouTube says removal of an active live stream for copyright results in a strike and restricts live-stream access for seven days; another copyright strike can make that restriction 14 days. A strike on an active or archived stream may also disable live-stream access. Check the channel’s current Studio status rather than assuming that a visible archive, or the arrival of the 90-day expiry date, means live access has returned. A 24/7 channel has no special public strike deadline. The relevant record is the affected channel’s notice and Studio status, not how long the stream has been running. If YouTube restricts live-stream access, a continuous schedule does not override that restriction.
