What’s actually slowing this PC down?

For a YouTube channel that needs to keep prerecorded videos playing while your computer is off, choose a hosted 24/7 streaming service. For camera-based production or hands-on control of an encoder, local streaming software may fit better—but the computer, power, and internet connection running it must remain available. The key distinction is where the stream runs: locally on your equipment or remotely through a provider. Neither option bypasses YouTube’s stream-health or copyright checks.
What is the difference between local streaming software and a cloud service?
YouTube receives a live feed from an encoder. That encoder can be software running on a computer or a standalone hardware device. You configure it with YouTube’s stream URL and stream key, then send the encoded feed to YouTube.
With local software, playback and encoding happen on your computer. A continuous stream therefore depends on that computer and its network connection staying available. Available information does not establish that you need a dedicated PC or a particular PC specification.
A cloud service runs its workflow remotely. For a prerecorded-video channel, check that a service actually hosts the playlist and sends it to YouTube. A relay that forwards a feed from OBS is not necessarily a hosted 24/7 video-streaming service.

YouTube’s verified encoder listing describes Gyre as a cloud-based tool for 24/7 prerecorded-video streams that does not require a dedicated PC or camera. The listing describes Full HD and 4K at 30/60 FPS and a converter for YouTube Live standards; those are service-description claims, not independent performance tests or an uptime promise. Restream’s surfaced instructions describe connecting streaming software such as OBS to Restream, which is not by itself evidence of the same hosted playlist workflow. Verify the workflow of any provider before choosing it.
How do I stream on YouTube 24/7 with local software?
- Enable live streaming. If you have never streamed before, YouTube says initial live-streaming enablement may take up to 24 hours. Complete that before scheduling a continuous broadcast.
- Prepare the source. For prerecorded programming, organize the videos and playback order in your chosen software. For a live production, configure your camera or other inputs instead. Confirm that you have rights to every video, audio track, and other work in the program.
- Get the YouTube destination details. In YouTube Studio, open the live-stream setup in Live Control Room and use the stream URL and stream key shown for the broadcast. Treat the key as a password: do not publish it or share it with anyone who should not control your stream.
- Configure the encoder. Set its destination to YouTube’s stream URL and enter the stream key. Choose an output resolution and frame rate your connection can reliably sustain. Use YouTube’s bitrate table for the selected output mode rather than assuming one bitrate suits every resolution and frame rate.
- Set stream behavior. YouTube recommends constant bitrate (CBR), a two-second keyframe interval, and no more than four seconds between keyframes. Follow any additional instructions from your encoder.
- Test before going live. Check the video, audio, playlist transitions, and connection under representative motion and sound conditions. Start the encoder and monitor stream health in Live Control Room while the broadcast is running.
- Plan for continuous operation. Keep the computer, power, and network path available, and decide who will notice and respond if playback or transmission stops. YouTube’s stream-health monitoring can help identify problems, but it does not keep a local computer running.
Or let it run in the cloud
With StreamNeo, upload a recording or build a playlist, add your YouTube stream key once, and go live. StreamNeo loops the uploaded videos from the cloud, so nothing has to stay on at home. You keep the uploaded quality, up to 4K 60fps, at one price per slot; there are no quality tiers or re-encoding. If YouTube drops the stream, StreamNeo automatically recovers it. The first day is free with no card, and the monthly option is $9.99 per month. StreamNeo is for YouTube streams of uploaded videos, not live camera feeds. Start your free day with StreamNeo.

What settings and YouTube limits matter?
Match quality to the connection
YouTube advises choosing output quality based on reliable upload capacity, testing before the broadcast, and monitoring stream health. Its settings guidance recommends CBR, a two-second keyframe frequency, and a maximum interval of four seconds. Use the bitrate listed by YouTube for your chosen resolution and frame rate, and follow the cloud provider’s own configuration instructions if you use one. YouTube transcodes incoming live streams into output formats for different devices and network conditions.
Separate stream duration from archive retention
YouTube says streams shorter than 12 hours are automatically archived. That archive rule is not the same as a promise that a continuous stream will be retained as a single recording. Restream’s help article also says YouTube has no duration limit but archives only streams shorter than 12 hours. Plan separately for keeping the channel live and preserving recordings of long broadcasts.

Provider behavior can add another interruption risk: Restream cautions that its servers may undergo maintenance and restart during continuous streams lasting more than 24 hours. That is a Restream-specific warning, not a rule for every cloud provider. Ask the service you choose how maintenance, reconnects, and any uptime commitments are handled.
Copyright applies whichever encoder you use
YouTube scans live streams for matches to third-party content, including other live broadcasts. If it finds a match, it may replace the feed with a placeholder and may interrupt or terminate the stream if the material remains. A copyright or Community Guidelines strike can also end a broadcast.

If you have a license for third-party material, YouTube says the rights owner may still need to add your channel to its Content ID allowlist. A license alone may not prevent an interruption when the channel is not allowlisted. Check rights and allowlisting before putting licensed material into a continuous playlist; using a cloud encoder does not change YouTube’s platform checks.

A local setup avoids a hosted-service fee only if you already have suitable equipment and account for the costs of keeping it powered, connected, maintained, and monitored. Available information does not establish a total-cost winner or a measured reliability advantage for either approach. A cloud plan adds a provider charge, while shifting playback and transmission off your local machine; assess current prices and limits directly with each provider.

Troubleshooting common 24/7 stream problems
The stream will not start
Confirm that live streaming is enabled; first-time enablement may take up to 24 hours. Check that the encoder uses the correct YouTube stream URL and current stream key, then review Live Control Room stream-health messages.
The connection or picture is unstable
Choose a resolution and frame rate that fit reliable upload capacity, then use YouTube’s bitrate guidance for that mode. Test with representative motion and audio. For a cloud service, also check its own status messages and instructions rather than assuming its limits match a local encoder’s.
The broadcast stops while unattended
For local software, check whether the computer, power, encoder, or internet connection became unavailable. For a hosted service, ask whether maintenance or a restart occurred and how it handles reconnects. Compare the provider’s recovery behavior rather than assuming every service automatically resumes.
YouTube replaces or ends the feed
Check for third-party material in the playlist and any copyright or Community Guidelines notice. If the material is licensed, confirm with the rights owner that the channel is allowlisted where required.

A long stream is missing from archives
Check the broadcast duration: YouTube’s automatic archive statement applies to streams under 12 hours. Make a separate recording and retention plan for longer programming.
