Start with the timestamped stream-health messages in YouTube Live Control Room, not a guessed BSNL router setting. They can help show whether the encoder lost its connection, YouTube reported an ingest problem, or viewers had playback trouble while the encoder stayed live. Then compare the encoder’s status with sustained upload capacity, bitrate settings and a wired-versus-Wi-Fi test. There is no universal BSNL FTTH router menu or setting established for this symptom; exact options depend on the router model and firmware.
First establish what is disconnecting
- Check YouTube Live Control Room. Open the stream’s health/status information and note any messages and their timestamps. YouTube advises monitoring stream health during the event and reviewing its messages. Timestamps let you compare a YouTube alert with encoder or router logs. See YouTube’s live-stream troubleshooting guidance and stream health status messages.
- Check the encoder at the same time. Does it report a dropped connection or continue to show that it is streaming? Distinguish an encoder/ingest failure from a playback complaint: viewers may have trouble even while the encoder remains live.
- Compare who is affected. YouTube distinguishes a report from one viewer, reports from viewers sharing one internet connection, and reports from viewers on different connections. Problems across unrelated viewer connections can point toward the encoder; if the encoder appears healthy, investigate the outbound internet connection. Follow YouTube’s troubleshooting steps.
Keep a short incident record: the exact time, Live Control Room message, encoder status, whether the encoder is wired or on Wi-Fi, and whether viewers on separate connections were affected. This is more useful than changing several router options at once.

Measure upload capacity and leave headroom
Measure sustained upload capacity, rather than relying on the FTTH package’s advertised download speed. YouTube recommends leaving a 20% bandwidth margin. Its guidance says the available upload bandwidth needs to accommodate the primary stream, any backup stream, and that margin; also account for other devices and people using the connection. Compare the measured capacity with the encoder’s configured bitrate and any backup bitrate. If the total demand is too close to or above the available upload, reduce the stream bitrate or other network load and test again. A speed test is a snapshot, not proof that the connection will sustain the required upload continuously; compare results during the hours when disconnects occur if possible.

Verify the encoder’s bitrate and keyframes
Use the bitrate appropriate to the chosen resolution and the upload capacity you have measured; there is no single correct bitrate for every continuous stream. YouTube’s encoder guidance recommends constant bitrate (CBR) and a two-second keyframe interval, with the interval not exceeding four seconds. Check the encoder’s output settings against YouTube’s current encoder settings and bitrate guidance.
- CBR: Confirm the encoder is set to constant bitrate, as YouTube recommends.
- Keyframe interval: Set two seconds if the encoder permits it; do not exceed four seconds.
- Bitrate: Ensure the configured bitrate, plus any backup stream and network use, fits within sustained outbound capacity with the recommended margin.
Test Wi-Fi against Ethernet
If the encoder is on Wi-Fi, test it over a stable Ethernet connection and compare the encoder status and YouTube health messages. A wired test can help isolate a wireless-link problem, but it is not proof that the router is faulty and does not guarantee a fix.

YouTube’s failover testing instructions include unplugging the primary encoder’s Ethernet cable to check whether a backup encoder takes over. That is a test of a configured backup, not a general remedy for disconnects. See YouTube’s failover testing guidance.

Check RTMPS errors narrowly
If the encoder reports “connection timed out” or an SSL certificate error, verify that it is configured with YouTube’s correct RTMPS URL and that the encoder supports RTMPS. YouTube mentions port 443 when troubleshooting an SSL certificate error. That guidance does not support generic inbound port forwarding or disabling router security for every disconnect. When to investigate BSNL router settings
Only investigate router-specific options after checking stream health, encoder configuration, upload headroom and the wired-versus-Wi-Fi result. The exact router make, model, firmware and network topology are needed before recommending a menu path or values. The available official guidance does not establish BSNL-wide settings for WAN keep-alive, NAT timeouts, DNS or Wi-Fi that solve this symptom.
Record the ONT/router make and model, firmware version, whether the encoder connects through the ONT or a separate router, its wired/wireless status, and timestamps for failures. If those checks point to an outbound ISP-path problem, YouTube advises contacting the ISP. Avoid changing multiple settings together: it makes it harder to identify which change affected the stream.
