To broadcast prerecorded meditation as one live stream, use OBS with a looping file or playlist, or a cloud service that streams to YouTube. Choose a playlist only if you do not need a live watch page.
Playlist vs. OBS loop: what changes for viewers?

YouTube describes an encoder as software or hardware that converts video into a digital format for streaming. Its encoder setup uses a stream URL and key; a playlist of published videos is not that encoder feed. YouTube’s encoder guide also lists OBS as open-source streaming software.
When a YouTube playlist is enough
Use a playlist if the goal is to make several already-published meditation recordings easy to play in order. It does not itself create one continuous live event, provide a live watch page, or offer the encoder monitoring workflow used to broadcast a live feed. Viewers are playing the videos on YouTube, not watching an encoder send a continuous stream.
How to loop meditation videos with OBS
OBS is a no-charge, open-source encoder listed by YouTube. Choose the source type based on whether you have one recording or a sequence of different recordings.

For one repeating recording
- In OBS, add a Media Source and select the meditation video file.
- Enable Loop. OBS describes this setting as replaying the file when playback completes.
- Check the transition from the end back to the beginning. A loop can create an abrupt visual or audio jump if the file was not designed to repeat seamlessly.
For a sequence of recordings
- In OBS, add a VLC Video source and configure the playlist of items. OBS documents this source as capable of playing a playlist.
- Test the order, transitions, and audio between every item, including what happens when playback reaches the end of the list.
OBS Media Source documentation lists common video formats including MP4, MOV, MKV, AVI, and WebM, and audio formats including MP3, AAC, OGG, and WAV. Format support can depend on the installed build and system, so test your exact files in OBS before scheduling a public stream. See OBS’s Media Sources documentation.
Connect OBS to YouTube and preview
- Verify the YouTube channel and confirm it has no active live-streaming restriction. First-time live-stream activation can take up to 24 hours, according to YouTube.
- Open YouTube Studio’s Live Control Room, create or schedule a stream, and copy the stream URL and stream key.
- In OBS, open Settings > Stream, select YouTube as the service, and enter the stream credentials. Treat the key as a password; do not share or publish it.
- Start the OBS encoder feed, then check the preview in Live Control Room before publishing. Verify that the video is visible and the audio level is clear.
- Test enough playback to confirm the loop or playlist behaves as intended, the scene remains visible, and audio continues across item boundaries.
For YouTube’s current encoder setup flow, consult the official live-stream encoder guide. YouTube also advises monitoring audio and video quality during a stream in its live-streaming help.

Choose by control, continuity, and workload
- Choose a YouTube playlist when you simply want viewers to play a set of published meditation videos and do not need one live event.
- Choose OBS when local control, scenes, overlays, or audio adjustments matter and you can maintain a dedicated running computer, internet connection, and monitoring plan.
- Choose a cloud service when avoiding a computer that must stay on at home is more important than local control. Compare the service’s current cost, controls, recovery behavior, and rights workflow; YouTube’s list of providers does not establish those details.

Plan for session limits, interruption, and archives
Do not assume one live event or its recording will run indefinitely. YouTube says streams under 12 hours are automatically archived; its setup guide does not promise indefinite live sessions or specify archive behavior beyond that condition. A 24-hour broadcast therefore should not be planned around the assumption that one archive will capture the entire day. Review YouTube’s current archive and stream-duration guidance before relying on an archive.

With OBS, a power, computer, network, or encoder interruption can stop the feed. Decide who will monitor it and how it will be restarted. If you use a cloud service, check its stated interruption handling and recovery behavior rather than assuming all providers work alike.
Rights and YouTube policy for meditation content
YouTube’s livestream terms make the provider responsible for having all necessary rights for live content, including music licensing rights, and for complying with applicable laws and Community Guidelines. A meditation label, credit, or attribution by itself does not establish permission to livestream a recording continuously.

Before broadcasting, verify that the license covers the exact audio recording, composition, artwork, and visuals; live streaming; the intended territories; and the planned duration or reuse. Read YouTube’s livestream terms and conditions and use the copyright safety checklist as a practical review aid.

Common problems and practical fixes
- The playlist is not live. A YouTube playlist organizes published videos; it is not an encoder feed. Use OBS or a cloud service to send a live event.
- OBS stops at the end of the file. Confirm Loop is enabled on the Media Source, or use a VLC Video playlist for multiple items. Re-test after changing the source or file.
- The loop has a click, silence, or visible jump. The source setting repeats the file; it does not make the content seamless. Edit or replace the recording, then test the boundary before going live.
- You cannot start streaming. Check channel verification, live-stream eligibility, the selected YouTube stream, and the URL/key entered in OBS. If this is the channel’s first livestream activation, allow up to 24 hours.
- The preview has no sound or picture. Check the OBS source visibility and audio meter, then verify the correct event and encoder connection in Live Control Room. Monitor the preview before publishing.
- The stream ends or the archive is incomplete. Plan for interruptions and avoid assuming one archive covers an entire 24-hour day. YouTube’s automatic archive statement applies to streams under 12 hours.
- A rights claim or restriction appears. Recheck licenses for every recording, composition, visual, and territory. Attribution alone is not proof of livestream permission.
