Quick wins for a faster PC:
Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problemsFix Now →Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitchesFind Drivers →If your memory kit supports a faster profile but it was never enabled, your PC may be using its default memory settings. The switch is usually in BIOS/UEFI: Intel systems call the profile setting XMP; AMD systems commonly use EXPO. The title’s “2014 speeds” is a hook, not a universal speed or diagnosis—what your PC supports depends on the exact RAM, processor, motherboard, and firmware.
What the memory profile switch does
A RAM kit can include a standard JEDEC configuration plus one or more higher-performance profiles. Intel says compatible XMP memory first boots at default JEDEC settings. Selecting a profile in BIOS/UEFI applies its preset memory speed, timings, and voltage. Intel describes these presets as combinations “tested by the manufacturer for stability”; that does not guarantee stability on every system.

Enabling XMP or EXPO is a form of memory overclocking. A profile is not a promise that every CPU and motherboard can run the kit at its advertised rate. ASUS notes that maximum memory frequency depends on the DRAM, motherboard, and CPU. Check the current terms from your component makers if you have warranty concerns; warranty effects cannot be generalized across all products.

| System or option | What to look for | Important qualification |
|---|---|---|
| Intel system | XMP, or Intel Extreme Memory Profile | Requires compatible memory and platform support. Intel describes changing memory frequency or voltage beyond specifications as overclocking that can affect stability and warranty; check your component makers’ current terms. |
| AMD system | EXPO, or AMD Extended Profiles for Overclocking | Availability and maximum supported speed depend on the specific memory, CPU, motherboard, and firmware. |
| Some motherboard firmware | DOCP or another vendor-specific profile label | ASUS documents XMP, EXPO, and DOCP options; which appears depends on the platform and whether the memory supports XMP or EXPO. Consult the manual for your exact board. |
How to enable the profile safely
- Identify your parts. Find the motherboard model and the exact memory kit, then check their specifications and the motherboard’s qualified vendor list (QVL), if available. Match the kit’s supported profile and rated settings to your CPU and board.
- Open BIOS/UEFI. Restart the PC and use the key shown by the motherboard during startup or in its manual. On the ASUS example, press Delete to enter BIOS, then F7 for Advanced Mode.
- Select the supported profile. In the cited ASUS example, go to Ai Tweaker > Ai OverClock Tuner and choose the profile supported by the installed kit and platform. Other boards use different names and menus; follow the manual for your model rather than assuming this path applies.
- Save and restart. The ASUS example uses F10 to save changes. Confirm the prompt shown by your own firmware before exiting.
- Verify the result. Check the memory speed in BIOS, or in Windows 10/11 open Task Manager > Performance > Memory. Compare the reported value with the kit and platform specifications. Do not assume the advertised profile took effect simply because you selected it.
If the PC does not boot or becomes unstable
Return the memory settings to defaults or clear CMOS using the procedure in your motherboard manual. The exact recovery method varies by board. Then check the board’s QVL and the memory maker’s compatibility guidance. ASUS recommends using listed QVL memory and matching modules as a kit rather than mixing separate modules; mixing kits can make the selected settings unreliable.

- Boosts System Performance: 32GB DDR5 RAM laptop memory kit (2x16GB) that operates at 5600MHz, 5200MHz, or 4800MHz to improve multitasking and system responsiveness for smoother performance
- Accelerated gaming performance: Every millisecond gained in fast-paced gameplay counts—power through heavy workloads and benefit from versatile downclocking and higher frame rates
- Optimized DDR5 compatibility: Best for 12th Gen Intel Core and AMD Ryzen 7000 Series processors — Intel XMP 3.0 and AMD EXPO also supported on the same RAM module
- Trusted Micron Quality: Backed by 42 years of memory expertise, this DDR5 RAM is rigorously tested at both component and module levels, ensuring top performance and reliability
- ECC Type = Non-ECC, Form Factor = SODIMM, Pin Count = 262-Pin, PC Speed = PC5-44800, Voltage = 1.1V, Rank And Configuration = 1Rx8
If the system remains unstable at the profile settings, use a supported lower setting or leave memory at defaults and contact the component makers for guidance. A profile is optional, and no particular speed is best for every workload.
Independent reader supportYour contribution helps us test, update, and keep practical guides available for everyone. Will enabling it make the PC faster?
It can change memory speed and timings from the default configuration, but the evidence here does not establish a universal percentage improvement. Any real-world effect depends on the system and workload, so do not treat a profile’s advertised data rate as a guaranteed performance gain. You do not need to buy RAM just to enable a compatible profile already present on the installed kit.
