Yes, the PvE test finally made ARC Raiders worth buying for me. I had avoided Embark’s extraction shooter because its original pitch made every run a fight against both machines and other players. The temporary PvE matchmaking beta changes that calculation: it offers a lower-conflict way to learn the maps, gather resources and play with friends while keeping the game’s extraction structure intact.
What ARC Raiders actually is
ARC Raiders is an online multiplayer extraction adventure set on a future Earth damaged by the mechanized ARC threat. You travel topside to scavenge equipment and materials, deal with hostile machines, and reach an extraction point with your haul. In the standard format, other Raiders can attack you as well, so a successful run depends on both combat and deciding when to leave.

That core loop has not been replaced. ARC Raiders remains a PvPvE sandbox, not a conventional campaign or a permanently peaceful co-op game. Nexon announced its worldwide release for October 30, 2025, on PC and consoles. Embark lists Steam, the Epic Games Store, PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S and GeForce NOW as platforms, with cross-platform social play.
The game supports solo play and teams of two or three. A squad is optional, although a microphone-equipped gaming headset is a sensible accessory if you plan to coordinate with friends.

Why the PvE beta changed my buying decision
Embark’s September 24, 2026 explanation says the studio “originally envisioned a raid-based PvE Co-op game with looting mechanics.” It later reshaped the project into the high-tension PvPvE extraction game that launched. That history explains why the new toggle feels meaningful rather than cosmetic: it acknowledges that some players want the scavenging and extraction systems without constant player ambushes.
The beta runs from October 13 through October 20, 2026. During the test, matchmaking lets you choose between standard PvPvE sessions and PvE servers. In PvE matchmaking, player-to-player damage is disabled, so another human squad cannot simply erase a run. ARC machines still matter, and the extraction rules still matter, which is exactly why the mode was enough to persuade me to buy the game rather than wait indefinitely.
What PvE matchmaking changes
- There is zero player-to-player damage.
- Physical interactions that do not deal damage, including barricades and ziplines, remain available.
- Loot has a lower overall value than in standard sessions.
- Solos, duos and trios can meet in the same PvE session.
- Some major map conditions are unavailable, including Night Raid, Locked Gate, Hidden Bunker, Frigate and Redirection.
Embark warns that queues may take longer in regions with fewer players. It also notes that ARC enemies can reacquire a downed player after an eight-second grace period, so PvE is not an invulnerability setting. A mistake can still cost a run.

No. The accurate description is “a limited PvE matchmaking test.” It removes direct player damage but does not remove the extraction pressure, hostile ARC units or the possibility of losing the value you carried into a run. The lower loot value and excluded map conditions also make the beta a different economy and activity mix from standard PvPvE.
Embark is collecting data during the October 13–20 test, and the permanent future of the toggle had not been confirmed when this article was written on October 16, 2026. Anyone buying solely for a permanent PvE playlist should treat that as an unresolved decision, not a promise.
How I would choose an edition
Steam and PlayStation list two editions at the time of writing:

For a cautious buyer, the Standard Edition is the clearer starting point. The PvE test makes the base game more approachable, but it does not turn the Deluxe Edition into a requirement.
Can your PC run ARC Raiders?
Steam’s published requirements are a practical pre-purchase check. DirectX 12 and broadband internet are required, and the game requires 64-bit Windows.

Meeting the minimum specification only establishes that your hardware is within the published baseline; it does not guarantee a particular frame rate or visual setting. Compare your exact CPU, GPU, RAM and Windows installation before purchasing. If local hardware is unsuitable, Embark also lists GeForce NOW as an available platform, subject to that service’s current availability and plan requirements.

Platforms, cross-play and solo use

- Console: PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S. The PlayStation version is PS5-only, not PS4.
- Cloud: GeForce NOW is listed by Embark.
- Social play: Cross-platform play is supported, and PlayStation describes solo sessions or teams of two or three.
On PS5, PlayStation documents support for DualSense vibration and adaptive trigger effects. Those features are optional conveniences, not prerequisites for playing.

Steam’s live English-language review listing was Very Positive at roughly 200,000 reviews and about 81–82% positive when checked on October 16, 2026. That is a changing user-generated signal, not a fixed review score.

Who should buy ARC Raiders now?
Buy if you want co-op extraction with less PvP pressure
The beta provides a practical on-ramp for players who enjoy scavenging, machine fights and risk-managed extraction but dislike being hunted by other players. You can learn the systems in PvE matchmaking and switch to standard PvPvE when you want more tension.
Wait if permanent PvE is non-negotiable
The test is temporary, lower-value and missing several map conditions. Because Embark had not committed to keeping the toggle, a purchase made only on the assumption of a permanent PvE mode remains a gamble.
Do not buy expecting a story-only game
ARC Raiders is still online-only and built around repeatable raids, loot decisions and extraction. PvE reduces one source of danger; it does not turn the game into an offline campaign.

My verdict
The PvE beta is not a bait-and-switch conversion of ARC Raiders into a different genre. It is a focused experiment that removes direct player damage while preserving the machines, movement, looting and extraction decisions that define a run. That narrower change was enough to overcome my original objection. For players like me who wanted a co-op-friendly reason to try the game, the Standard Edition now has a convincing case—provided we understand that the long-term PvE option is still undecided.
