Iranian security official Mohsen Rezaei answered President Donald Trump’s claim that Iran was “ready to fold up” with a taunt: “You can win every day in your own imagination. But reality is shaped by Iran—by its people, its soldiers, and its missiles.” CBS News and Tasnim reported that Rezaei posted the reply on X on Friday, October 2, 2026, a day after Trump spoke in Denton, Texas.
What did Mohsen Rezaei say to Trump?
Rezaei’s reported X post challenged Trump’s description of Iran’s position and asserted that Iran, rather than Trump’s claims, shapes events. CBS News and Tasnim also reported a second line from the post: “After one failure after another, the worst president in American history just keeps talking—and talking—and now his words have even outrun his own fantasies.”
The wording is attributed to Rezaei through news reports; the cited coverage does not include an independently inspected copy of the post.
When and where did Trump say Iran was ready to fold up?
CBS News reported that Trump made the remark Thursday night, October 1, at a Peterbilt Motors facility in Denton, Texas. CBS quoted him saying: “We have a war going on with a country that will never have a nuclear weapon and is ready to fold up.” The report also said Trump predicted the United States would win “right after the election,” while allowing that it could happen before the November midterms.

Rezaei’s X response followed on Friday, October 2. The quoted remarks are reported by CBS rather than presented here from a transcript or recording of Trump’s event.
Who is Mohsen Rezaei?
Hindustan Times and Tasnim identify Rezaei as secretary of Iran’s Supreme National Security Council. That identification provides his official role in the exchange; his post is a political response, not independent evidence of the military situation.

What was happening in diplomacy before the exchange?
On September 30, The Associated Press reported that Iranian officials said they had received an official U.S. response to Tehran’s latest proposal to end the war. The officials did not disclose what the response said or characterize it as a rejection. That report establishes that a response had been received, but not the outcome or status of the proposal.

The remarks show two leaders making sharply opposed public claims: Trump said Iran was ready to fold up, and Rezaei rejected that framing. Neither statement verifies who is winning or establishes battlefield conditions. The available reports document the rhetoric and its timing, not an independent assessment of the war.
