Yes—an unofficial project called Galaxy-Android can run Super Mario Galaxy as an Android port rather than through a conventional Wii emulator. The release appeared on October 15, 2026, and is still experimental. You must provide your own legally obtained Super Mario Galaxy game data, and early reports include serious visual bugs, so this is a technical preview rather than a polished replacement for playing on Wii.
What Galaxy-Android actually is
Developer Mohammed Huzaifa released Galaxy-Android as a native-style Android port based on the recently completed decompilation of the Wii game. The developer describes the project as “AI-assisted.” In practical terms, the Android application contains the ported game code and does not launch a Wii emulator in the background. That is what “no emulator needed” means; it does not mean the game files are included.

Galaxy-Android is not an official Nintendo release. Community release notes say proprietary assets and a copyrighted game image are excluded. You therefore need game data from a copy you are legally entitled to use. Do not download a ROM from an unlicensed source, and do not expect the app package to supply one.
What you need before installing
- An Android phone or Android gaming handheld with enough free storage for the game data and installation.
- Your own Super Mario Galaxy ROM, in a format the app’s disc-file picker accepts.
- A willingness to troubleshoot an early release whose compatibility varies by chipset, graphics driver and device configuration.
- Optional: an Android-compatible Bluetooth or USB gamepad. Touch input is supported, but a physical controller is better suited to Galaxy’s movement and pointer controls.
The installer can omit cutscenes. Release notes say skipping them saves about 2GB of storage, which may matter on a phone with limited free space. That choice removes video content; it does not remove the requirement for the underlying game data.

How to install and launch Galaxy-Android
- Install Galaxy-Android from the project’s legitimate release source. Avoid packages that claim to bundle the game itself.
- Open the app and select Choose disc file.
- Use Android’s file picker to select your legally obtained Super Mario Galaxy ROM.
- Tap Install & launch game and wait for the extraction and installation process to finish.
- If storage is tight, choose the option to skip cutscenes; the release notes estimate a saving of roughly 2GB.
- After installation, use Launch installed game for subsequent starts instead of selecting the disc file again.
If the picker cannot see the file, check Android’s storage permissions, move the ROM to a local folder rather than a cloud-only location, and confirm that the file is complete. A failed installation can also indicate an unsupported image format or a damaged dump; obtain a clean dump from your own disc rather than trying random downloads.
Performance: what current reports show
Android Authority’s October 15, 2026 report describes a default 60fps cap and 1080p output. Those are application settings, not a promise that every phone will sustain them. The same report gives three useful—but non-standardized—examples:
| Device or hardware example | Reported result | What it does and does not prove |
|---|---|---|
| ANBERNIC RG 55G1 with Snapdragon G1 Gen 2 | Playable performance | Shows that at least one Android gaming handheld can run the port; it is not a universal handheld-compatibility guarantee. |
| Redmi Note 17 Pro Max with Snapdragon 6 Gen 5 | Smooth gameplay | Indicates that a modern mid-range phone may be suitable, subject to its drivers, cooling and software version. |
| Device with Dimensity 920 and 6GB of RAM | Good performance reported | Provides a useful reference point, not a controlled benchmark or minimum specification. |
These observations come from individual devices reported by Android Authority, not from an aggregate test. Performance can change with thermal throttling, Android updates, graphics drivers, resolution settings and background activity. A phone that reaches the 60fps cap in a short session may slow down after it heats up.

How to judge a budget phone
Do not use RAM alone as a compatibility test. The graphics processor and driver quality are at least as important, and sustained cooling affects long play sessions. A budget device with a capable recent chipset may outperform an older phone with more memory. If your phone is below the performance level of the cited Snapdragon 6 Gen 5, Snapdragon G1 Gen 2 or Dimensity 920 examples, treat installation as experimental and expect to lower expectations about frame-rate stability and visual completeness.
Controls and accessories
Community release notes list three input methods:
- Touch controls: on-screen controls include direct Star Pointer tracking.
- Bluetooth gamepad: an Android-compatible wireless controller can provide conventional buttons and sticks without a cable.
- USB gamepad: a wired controller works when the phone supports the required USB connection or adapter.
A physical controller is the clearest upgrade for comfortable play. The pointer-based design of Galaxy makes precise touch tracking possible, but a gamepad generally keeps the display unobstructed and feels more consistent. An Android gaming handheld is another option, although the cited playable handheld result should not be read as confirmation that every model works.

The project was less than 24 hours old when Android Authority published its report. On two tested devices, Mario and non-player-character models were missing altogether, even though the game otherwise ran. That kind of failure points to unresolved rendering or asset-compatibility problems rather than a simple performance slowdown.

- Savings based on manufacturer’s suggested retail price when purchasing games separately. Actual savings may vary.
An update had already fixed some issues reported on Reddit, but community notes still warn users to expect bugs and compatibility problems. In an early port, one device may display characters correctly while another shows invisible models, broken effects or crashes. Keep the original game and a backup of any save data separate from the Android installation so a reinstall does not put your progress at risk.

| Your situation | Best expectation | Trade-off |
|---|---|---|
| You own lawful game data, have a recent mid-range or better chipset, and accept bugs | Try the port and test both touch and a controller | You may encounter missing models or device-specific crashes. |
| You have limited storage | Install with cutscenes skipped | You save about 2GB, but video scenes are removed. |
| You have an older or entry-level phone | Treat it as an unsupported experiment | Frame-rate stability and rendering correctness are uncertain. |
| You do not own the game data | Do not install yet | The port does not provide the ROM or proprietary assets; obtain data only through lawful means. |
| You want a polished, predictable play session | Wait for later updates | This release is new and has already exhibited major visual defects. |
Bottom line for prospective players
Galaxy-Android is a significant technical demonstration: it brings a Wii-era game to Android without requiring a traditional emulator, and reports show playable results on several mid-range examples at a 60fps cap and 1080p. It is not yet a dependable “install and forget” game. The decisive questions are whether you have your own game data, whether your device has a capable GPU and enough storage, and whether you can tolerate missing characters and other early-release bugs.
