Neither Yoast SEO nor All in One SEO (AIOSEO) is established as the best choice for every WordPress site. Both offer free versions and paid plans, and both cover core SEO tasks. Choose by comparing the specific features, editor and commerce integrations, migration needs, and current plan costs your site requires—not by assuming a plugin alone will improve rankings or speed.
What both plugins cover
Both tools aim to handle foundational WordPress SEO work, but their free-feature descriptions are not identical. Yoast says its free plugin includes content analysis and technical features such as schema, XML sitemaps, and social previews. The AIOSEO listing on WordPress.org describes SEO titles and descriptions, an XML sitemap, schema, Search Console integration, and TruSEO analysis in its free version. These are vendor and directory descriptions, not independent feature tests; confirm the current feature lists before choosing.
Yoast says it is used on “13+ million sites,” while the AIOSEO WordPress.org listing says “over 3 million website owners and SEO experts.” Those promotional claims use different wording, have no year stated in the retrieved pages, and are not audited or directly comparable. They do not establish which plugin is a better fit.
Compare the features you will actually use
Start with the work you need the plugin to do. A longer feature list matters only if its tools fit your workflow and are included in the plan you intend to buy.

- Metadata and on-page guidance: Check how each plugin supports SEO titles, descriptions, and content analysis in your editor.
- Technical output: Compare schema, XML sitemap behavior, and index controls against your current site requirements.
- Specialized workflows: If you need local SEO, WooCommerce SEO, redirects, internal-link suggestions, or rank tracking, check the current plan table for the exact feature and tier.
- Integrations: Verify compatibility with your editor, page builder, commerce plugin, multilingual tools, and other SEO components using the versions and configuration on your site.
Yoast’s official product materials describe integrations with WordPress editors and other tools. AIOSEO’s feature page describes TruSEO analysis, schema, WooCommerce SEO, Link Assistant, and Redirection Manager. These are vendor claims, and feature availability can depend on the plan. See Yoast SEO’s product page and AIOSEO’s feature page.
Paid plans: match the package to the job
Paid packaging differs, so compare the current plans rather than treating “premium” as an equivalent tier across products.
Rank #2
| Product | Paid features described in the reviewed materials | Price evidence |
|---|---|---|
| Yoast SEO | Yoast Premium highlights AI-assisted content tools, internal-link suggestions, redirect automation, Academy access, and support. The vendor says one subscription covers one site or domain. | Yoast’s Premium page displayed $118.80 per year excluding VAT at the time reviewed. Price, billing terms, included products, and license limits can change; check the live plan page before buying. |
| All in One SEO | AIOSEO materials describe paid options including local SEO, keyword tracking, internal linking, redirects, and WooCommerce SEO. Confirm which plan includes each capability. | A dependable like-for-like price was not stated in the reviewed material. Check the current pricing page and billing terms. |
Yoast also sells products and bundles beyond a simple free-versus-Premium choice, including WooCommerce SEO and AI+. Identify the exact Yoast product and feature set you are comparing. AIOSEO’s official feature and WordPress.org pages describe its broader toolkit and Pro-level capabilities, but the current plan table is the place to confirm feature gates. See Yoast Premium, Yoast’s shop, AIOSEO pricing, and the AIOSEO WordPress.org listing.
For a fair cost comparison, check the current price, renewal terms, number of sites covered, applicable VAT or tax, and whether the plan includes the tools you need. The available pricing information does not support a like-for-like comparison of equivalent plans.

Which plugin should you choose?
Choose based on your free-tier requirements
If you plan to stay on a free version, list the metadata, sitemap, schema, analysis, and integration features your site needs, then compare the current free feature lists. Do not decide only on the basis that both offer a free plugin.
Choose based on a specific paid workflow
If redirects or internal-link guidance are the deciding factor, compare Yoast Premium’s described tools with the relevant AIOSEO plan. For local SEO, rank tracking, or WooCommerce SEO, check whether the AIOSEO plan you are considering includes the needed capability, and compare it with the exact Yoast product or bundle that fits the same job.

Choose with your WordPress setup in mind
Check the plugins you already use, your editor or page builder, and any commerce or multilingual setup. Vendor compatibility statements cannot establish that a particular combination of versions and settings will work correctly on your site.
Evaluate usability or performance on your own site
If interface preference or performance is decisive, assess each option in a controlled copy of your own setup. The reviewed materials do not establish an independent head-to-head usability comparison, speed test, or ranking study, so there is no evidence here that one plugin is universally faster or produces better rankings.

How to switch without overlooking SEO settings
Yoast and AIOSEO each describe migration support involving the competing plugin. That does not prove every setting or plugin-specific behavior transfers one-to-one. Treat the importer as a starting point and check the result.
- Record the current state. Note representative page titles and descriptions, canonical URLs, schema output, XML sitemap behavior, index controls, and redirects.
- Make a backup and use staging. Test the change on a staging site or another recoverable copy before changing the live installation.
- Use the destination plugin’s importer. Follow the current vendor documentation for the relevant versions and inspect any available import summary.
- Check representative content. Compare key page types, including posts, pages, product pages, and local landing pages if relevant. Inspect metadata, canonicals, schema, sitemap entries, redirects, and index settings.
- Launch and monitor. After switching on the live site, watch crawl and index behavior and investigate unexpected changes in coverage or URLs.
Avoid running overlapping SEO plugins simultaneously without a deliberate configuration plan. The vendors describe migration tools, but their materials do not establish a universal migration procedure or guarantee that all settings map exactly.
