How to connect to Atlanta
The exact wording and layout can differ between operating systems and app versions, but the selection process is the same: use the location picker and choose Atlanta instead of allowing the app to make an automatic choice.
- Open the ExpressVPN app. Sign in if the app asks for your account credentials.
- Open the VPN location picker. This is the part of the app that lists countries and cities rather than the single connect control.
- Find the United States locations. Scroll through the country list or use the app’s search field if one is displayed.
- Select “USA – Atlanta.” Choose the Atlanta city entry, not a general United States location and not another city that is routed through Atlanta.
- Connect. Start the VPN connection after Atlanta is selected. Keep the location selected if you disconnect and reconnect, because an automatic reconnect setting can choose a different location.
- Confirm the active location in the app. The app should show Atlanta as the selected or connected location. If it shows another city, return to the picker and select Atlanta manually again.
If Atlanta is important for a work system, regional website, or other location-sensitive task, make the city selection before every connection rather than assuming the previous choice will remain active after an app update or a change in network.

- Turn off any automatic-location shortcut when the city itself is required.

Think of the table as two separate checks. First, Atlanta is a location in the network. Second, the published table associates that location with six protocol options. Your app may expose fewer choices because of the device you are using, the app version, or the platform’s implementation. Use only protocols that appear in your own app’s protocol settings.
Protocol availability is not a promise that one option will be fastest. UDP-based choices and TCP-based choices can behave differently on restrictive networks, but the official location table provides no Atlanta-specific speed ranking. If one listed protocol fails, try another protocol your device supports rather than concluding that the city endpoint is unavailable.

On iOS and Android, the automatic option is currently called Fastest Location. On desktop apps and routers, Smart Location is the equivalent feature. Either option may select a city other than Atlanta, even when Atlanta is available, because the algorithm is responding to current network conditions.

That behavior is expected rather than evidence that Atlanta has disappeared. If the city itself matters, bypass the automatic option and choose USA – Atlanta in the location picker. Automatic selection is appropriate only when you want the app to decide based on its network metrics.
Is the Atlanta server physically in Atlanta?
ExpressVPN’s current table marks Atlanta as Available; it does not mark the city as an “Available – Virtual Locations” entry. The safest interpretation is that Atlanta is not identified as a virtual location in the published list.
That label does not disclose the exact physical facility. You should not turn the absence of a virtual label into a claim about a specific data center, building, provider, or street address. ExpressVPN’s documentation explains that, for a limited set of locations, the registered IP corresponds to the selected place while the physical server is in another country, usually nearby.
The company’s virtual-location list gives two examples that use Atlanta as the physical route: USA – Nashville (via Atlanta) and USA – Charleston – South Carolina (via Atlanta). Those entries are different from the Atlanta listing itself. Selecting Nashville or Charleston does not mean you selected Atlanta in the app; it means those named virtual locations are routed via Atlanta while presenting the selected city’s registered IP geography.
Atlanta versus a general United States location
A general United States button and a city-specific Atlanta entry serve different purposes. A country-level choice leaves the app free to select among U.S. locations. The Atlanta entry expresses a city preference and is the appropriate choice when the endpoint needs to be Atlanta.

- Choose Atlanta manually when the city shown by the VPN app matters.
- Choose an automatic option when you care more about the app’s network-based selection than a particular city.
- Check the selected label after connecting if another application depends on the apparent location.
The existence of an Atlanta listing does not establish that every website, service, or geolocation database will treat the connection identically. The official material confirms the listed VPN location; it does not provide guarantees about access to a particular service or the result of every third-party IP lookup.

Several common questions go beyond what the current official pages establish:
- There is no published Atlanta server count in the cited location table.
- There is no independent Atlanta speed test, latency test, capacity measurement, or uptime audit in the available material.
- The listing does not promise a particular performance level for a specific broadband or mobile provider.
- The listing does not identify the physical facility used for Atlanta.
- The listing does not guarantee access to a specific streaming, banking, gaming, or other website.
These limits matter because “Atlanta is available” is a location statement, not a performance guarantee. Your results can vary with distance to the endpoint, local congestion, your ISP, device conditions, and the protocol available on that device.

The city does not appear in the picker
Check that you are looking under the United States locations rather than a favorites-only or recently used view. Search for “Atlanta” if the app provides search. If the list still differs from the current official table, compare the app’s version and platform with the current support documentation; labels and availability can change.
The app connects to another city
Disconnect, reopen the location picker, and select USA – Atlanta directly. Do not press Fastest Location or Smart Location afterward, because doing so hands the choice back to the automatic selector.
A protocol option is unavailable
The location table’s six protocol columns describe published availability for Atlanta, but not every protocol is offered on every device. Open your app’s protocol settings and select one of the protocols it actually lists. If the app offers only a subset, that is a device or platform limitation rather than proof that Atlanta is absent.

The app shows Atlanta but a service reports another place
First verify the connected location inside the ExpressVPN app. Then check whether the other service is using its own location data or a different connection path. The official location list confirms the VPN endpoint selection; it does not control how every third-party service classifies an IP address.
Keeping the answer current
Server-location pages are changeable. ExpressVPN’s current list is the authority for whether Atlanta is offered at the time you connect, while the app’s own picker is the practical authority for what your installed version can select.
