Verdict: The Yale Luna Pro+ is a capable premium mortise lock, but its ₹99,908 India price (MRP ₹1,31,099) is difficult to justify unless hands-free face entry is your main reason for buying it. Fingerprint, PIN, RFID, key and app access were quick and dependable in a month-long independent review; face recognition was noticeably less consistent. Remote control and voice assistants also require the separately sold ₹6,891 Yale Connect Plus Hub 2.
What the Yale Luna Pro+ is
The Luna Pro+ is a residential mortise smart lock for timber doors. It combines face recognition, fingerprint scanning, PIN entry, RFID cards, Yale Home app control and a mechanical-key override. The catalogue model uses a 60 mm backset and fits timber doors 35–100 mm thick.

That total puts the Luna Pro+ in a very different class from conventional keypad or fingerprint locks. A value-oriented Indian alternative cited by the reviewer, the Godrej Advantis GSL D1, started at ₹18,499. Cheaper models can still provide fingerprint, keypad, RFID, mobile-app and key entry, so the premium is primarily paying for the Luna Pro+’s face-scanning hardware, design and Yale ecosystem.

Does face recognition work?
Face scanning is the feature that separates this lock from most cheaper alternatives, and it is also the least dependable access method in the independent testing. Yale specifies operation in under 1.2 seconds at a distance of 40–100 cm and a user height of 120–190 cm.

In practice, recognition worked about 95% of the time for the reviewer after a month of use. Delays were more noticeable when the user’s hands were full—the situation in which hands-free entry is most useful. The reviewer also reports that face-based unlocks never appeared in the Yale Home activity stream. That makes the feature convenient when it succeeds, but not reliable enough to be your only preferred method.

By contrast, fingerprint, PIN, RFID card, mechanical key, app control and the other tested entry routes were described as fast, with no false positives observed during the month. Those are real-world observations rather than a controlled laboratory accuracy test.

How the other access methods performed
- Fingerprint: Fast everyday entry and a practical alternative when face scanning hesitates.
- PIN: Useful for guests or household members who should not receive a physical credential.
- RFID card: Simple tap access, with capacity for up to 100 cards.
- Yale Home app: Local phone control through the lock’s Bluetooth connection.
- Mechanical key: A physical fallback if the electronics or battery become unavailable.
- Phone NFC: The reviewer also tried NFC on a phone, in addition to the lock’s listed methods.
The lock raised its intruder alarm when the locked mechanism was manipulated. A valid unlock method silenced the alarm. Automatic locking and the anti-panic exit function were also reported to work.
Remote access and smart-home control
Bluetooth is built into the lock or its module configuration, but Bluetooth does not provide control from outside the home. For remote operation, notifications and integrations beyond local range, you need the Yale Connect Plus Hub 2, sold separately at ₹6,891 in the cited India review.

The official catalogue states that the hub is required for Amazon Alexa, Google Home and related voice-assistant functionality. Without it, the Luna Pro+ remains a locally controlled smart lock rather than a remotely managed one. Include the hub in your budget if remote unlocking is part of the purchase decision.

Check these measurements first
- Timber door construction
- Door thickness between 35 and 100 mm
- 60 mm mortise backset
- Interior escutcheon protected from outdoor exposure
The reviewer installed the lock on a wooden test fixture in 30–40 minutes and spent about 20 more minutes configuring Yale Home. A plank does not reproduce a real doorframe, latch alignment, or the behavior of a heavy swinging door, so that timing is not a guarantee for a household installation. Existing mortise dimensions, frame alignment and door handing can add work; professional assessment is sensible when those measurements are uncertain.

Battery, emergency power and weather limits
The Luna Pro+ uses a removable rechargeable lithium-ion battery. Yale’s catalogue estimates approximately 9–12 months of battery life, depending on daily use, and lists a low-battery warning. A USB-C emergency backup allows temporary power when the battery is depleted.
Its IP52 rating means limited dust protection and protection from vertically dripping water when tilted up to 15 degrees. It is not designed for heavy rain or water jets. Yale specifically warns against installations where the interior escutcheon is exposed to the elements, such as an outdoor gate. This is a timber-door interior lock, not a weather-exposed gate lock.
Who should buy it?
Buy it when
- You specifically want face-based, hands-free entry and accept that fingerprint or PIN may still be needed.
- Your door meets the 35–100 mm thickness and 60 mm backset requirements.
- You value Yale’s app and ecosystem and have budgeted for the hub if remote access is needed.
- You are replacing or commissioning a premium mortise installation rather than seeking the cheapest smart lock.
Skip it when
- You mainly want reliable fingerprint, keypad or RFID access; much cheaper locks provide those methods.
- You expect face recognition to be nearly infallible or fully represented in access logs.
- You need an outdoor-gate installation or direct weather exposure.
- Your total budget cannot absorb the separate hub cost for remote and voice control.
Bottom-line assessment
The Luna Pro+ succeeds as a feature-rich premium mortise lock: it offers many access choices, a mechanical fallback, useful alarm behavior, rechargeable power and broad credential capacity. Its defining face scanner is convenient but inconsistent enough that fingerprint, PIN or card entry will remain the dependable choice on some attempts. At ₹99,908—and ₹1,06,799 with the cited hub—it is a luxury purchase. The price makes sense mainly for buyers who genuinely want face scanning and hands-free entry, not for anyone simply seeking a good smart lock.
