XREAL One Pro Compatibility: Which Phones, Laptops and Consoles Work

By Freedom251 Team · · 8 min read

XREAL One Pro works directly with a source that sends video through USB-C DisplayPort Alt Mode and supplies power. That includes supported USB-C iPhones, selected Android phones and tablets, USB-C laptops, MacBooks, Steam Deck and ROG Ally. HDMI-only devices such as PlayStation, Xbox and Nintendo Switch need a powered conversion or hub path.

The compatibility rule that determines everything

Brand names are less important than the port’s capabilities. For a direct connection, the source must provide both:

As an Amazon Associate I earn from qualifying purchases.

  • DisplayPort (DP) video output over USB-C, often called DisplayPort Alt Mode or DP Alt Mode.
  • At least 5V/1A of power for the glasses. XREAL’s connection tutorial specifies this minimum host supply.

A USB-C socket that supports only charging and USB data will not produce an image. Conversely, a phone or computer can have a physically identical USB-C port but lack video output. Check the exact model’s specifications rather than assuming that every USB-C device is compatible.

The glasses do not contain a battery. During direct use they draw power from the connected phone, computer or handheld. With HDMI sources, the adapter or hub must provide the power that the console cannot deliver through HDMI.

Compatibility at a glance

Source device Direct connection Extra hardware Important caveat
iPhone 15, 16 and 17 USB-C models Yes, where listed by XREAL USB-C cable; a hub can be used for longer sessions XREAL’s guide specifically excludes iPhone 16E from its direct-connection statement.
Lightning iPhone No Compatible HDMI or USB-C display adapter Adapter support must be confirmed before purchase.
Android phone Only when the exact model supports DP Alt Mode Hub if you need to charge while viewing USB-C charging and data alone are insufficient.
USB-C iPad or tablet Yes when the model outputs DP video Hub optional Verify the individual model.
MacBook or Windows laptop Yes through a USB-C DP-capable port HDMI-to-USB-C adapter if the computer has HDMI only The USB-C port must carry video, not merely data.
Steam Deck or ROG Ally Yes Hub optional The handheld’s battery powers the glasses.
Nintendo Switch Not as a simple direct USB-C connection XREAL Hub with external power, or a dock and powered HDMI adapter Switch 2 behavior should be checked separately.
PlayStation 5, PlayStation 4 or Xbox No direct USB-C path from the console’s HDMI output Powered HDMI-to-USB-C/DisplayPort adapter The adapter must convert the signal and supply power.

Phones and tablets

USB-C iPhones

XREAL’s official guide lists USB-C iPhone 15 and later models for direct connection, including the USB-C generations identified there as iPhone 16 and iPhone 17. The same guide does not include iPhone 16E in that direct-connection statement, so do not treat it as confirmed compatibility without checking an updated XREAL listing for that model.

Use a full-featured USB-C cable between the phone and the glasses. The phone must provide DisplayPort video and enough power; a cable that is intended only for charging will not work. A hub is useful when you want to keep the phone charging during a long viewing session, but the hub must preserve DP video and provide an appropriate power input.

Lightning iPhones

Lightning iPhones cannot send the required USB-C DP signal directly. They need a compatible display adapter that converts the phone’s output to a connection accepted by the glasses. Adapter compatibility is not universal, so confirm that the specific adapter supports external-display output and the required power path. If an adapter offers video but no way to power the glasses, the setup may show no image or shut down under load.

Android phones

Android support is model-specific. Look for an explicit specification such as “DisplayPort over USB-C,” “DP Alt Mode” or wired external-display support. A USB-C connector, fast charging, USB 3.x or desktop-mode software does not by itself prove that the phone can drive the glasses.

For a direct setup, connect the phone’s DP-capable USB-C port to the glasses with a video-rated USB-C cable. If you need simultaneous charging, use a hub that accepts a charger while retaining DP output. Check the phone maker’s documentation for display-mode limitations, because some models mirror the screen while others expose a desktop interface.

iPads and other tablets

A USB-C iPad or tablet can connect when its exact model supports DP video output. The same port and power rules apply as on a phone. A hub is optional for a simple viewing setup and useful when you need charging or additional peripherals. Tablets that use USB-C only for charging and data require an adapter path instead of a direct cable.

Laptops and handheld PCs

MacBook and Windows laptops

MacBooks and Windows laptops with a USB-C port that carries DisplayPort video can connect directly. The computer supplies power to the glasses, so no separate power brick is normally needed for a basic session.

Do not infer video support from the presence of USB-C alone. Check the port symbols, the laptop’s technical specifications or the manufacturer’s dock documentation. Thunderbolt and USB4 ports commonly carry DisplayPort, but the exact implementation still matters.

If the laptop exposes only HDMI for video, use a powered HDMI-to-USB-C/DisplayPort adapter. A passive HDMI-to-USB-C cable is not enough: HDMI and USB-C DP are different signal standards, and the glasses also need power.

Steam Deck and ROG Ally

Steam Deck and ROG Ally are listed as direct-use examples. Connect a DP-capable USB-C port to the glasses with a suitable cable. The handheld’s battery runs both the computer and the glasses, so intensive games will reduce runtime faster than playing on the built-in display. A USB-C hub or dock is optional when you want external power, USB accessories or a larger charging setup.

When using a hub, make sure its video output is DP-capable and that its power-delivery input is connected if you expect to charge while playing. A hub that exposes USB data but not DisplayPort will not solve a video problem.

PlayStation and Xbox

PlayStation 5, PlayStation 4 and Xbox consoles output HDMI. XREAL One Pro requires a DP video signal plus power, so these consoles cannot connect to the glasses through a simple USB-C cable.

  • YOUR PRIVATE 147” BIG SCREEN, ANYWHERE — Plug the a01+ into your phone, tablet, handheld, or laptop and a giant 147” screen appears in front of you—for movies, gaming, or getting work done on the couch, on a flight, or in bed. A true portable display you wear, in a soda-can-sized 210g case that drops in your pocket.
  • ALWAYS RIGHT IN FRONT OF YOU — The screen follows your view with smooth, stabilized tracking and stays centered as you look around—nothing to anchor or set up, and no drift to reset. Press play and your big screen is simply there.
  • 62G — LIGHT ENOUGH TO FORGET — At just 62g, with three nose-pad sizes and flexible temples, the a01+ stays comfortable through a long movie or flight, even lying down.
  • LOOKS LIKE SUNGLASSES, NOT A GADGET — A slim, sunglasses-style frame with a signature semi-transparent chassis and neon logo—light and low-profile enough to actually wear out.
  • WORKS WITH YOUR USB-C GEAR — No Battery to Charge — Connects and powers over a single USB-C DisplayPort cable: iPhone 15/16/17, iPad, DP-capable Android phones, Steam Deck, ROG Ally, Mac and PC. Nintendo Switch/Switch 2 and older (Lightning) iPhones need an adapter. For long phone sessions, add the XREAL Hub to charge and watch at once.

What you need

  • The console’s HDMI output.
  • A powered HDMI-to-USB-C or HDMI-to-DisplayPort adapter designed for glasses or other USB-C displays.
  • The adapter’s USB power connection, connected to a suitable charger or USB power source.
  • An appropriate cable from the adapter to the glasses.

Connection steps

  1. Turn off the console and connect its HDMI output to the adapter’s HDMI input.
  2. Connect the adapter’s power input. Without external power, the adapter may be unable to run the conversion electronics or the glasses.
  3. Connect the adapter’s USB-C/DP output to XREAL One Pro using a video-capable cable.
  4. Power on the glasses and console, then select the correct HDMI input on the display adapter if it has a switch or selector.
  5. If the image is absent, verify the adapter’s supported resolution and refresh rate and test the power source with the console running.

XREAL’s guidance describes this route as an HDMI conversion that supplies both the required DP signal and power. An ordinary HDMI cable, USB charging lead or unpowered converter does not perform both jobs.

Nintendo Switch

The glasses cannot connect directly to a Nintendo Switch as a simple USB-C-to-USB-C accessory. Use one of two supported paths.

XREAL Hub path

  1. Connect the Switch to the XREAL Hub using the hub’s designated console or video connection.
  2. Connect external power to the hub.
  3. Connect the hub’s glasses output to XREAL One Pro with a suitable USB-C video cable.
  4. Start the Switch and confirm that the hub is receiving power before troubleshooting the display.

The external supply is essential because the hub has to provide the power and signal routing that a direct cable cannot. The exact behavior of Nintendo Switch 2 should be checked separately; compatibility for the newer console is not established by the original Switch instructions.

Dock and HDMI-adapter path

You can also use a Switch dock or another dock-compatible HDMI output, followed by a powered HDMI-to-USB-C/DP adapter. This follows the same signal conversion principle as PlayStation and Xbox: HDMI leaves the dock, the adapter converts it to DP-compatible output, and external power runs the adapter and glasses.

What the glasses can display once connected

Compatibility only establishes that a source can deliver a signal. The available interface and display modes depend on the source class and software.

Electrochromic dimming Shown across the listed device classes.
Screen-size adjustment Shown across the listed device classes.

Ultrawide mode Limited to selected classes, including desktop-mode Android, iPad, Android tablet, Windows and MacBook.

XREAL’s current product information lists a peak brightness of 1,200 nits, a 120 Hz refresh rate and a 57-degree field of view. Those are product specifications, not a guarantee that every phone, game or adapter will output 120 Hz or expose every spatial feature. The source, operating system and adapter can limit resolution, refresh rate, 3D and ultrawide behavior.

Troubleshooting by symptom

No image over a direct USB-C connection

  • Confirm that the source port supports DP Alt Mode; charging and USB data support are not enough.
  • Replace the cable with a USB-C cable rated for video.
  • Check that the source can provide at least 5V/1A.
  • Reconnect after unlocking the phone or restarting the laptop, since some devices enable external display only after authentication.
  • Test the glasses on another known DP-capable source to isolate the phone, cable or glasses.

The image appears briefly, then cuts out

  • Use a shorter or better-shielded video cable.
  • Connect a charger through a compatible hub if the host battery or power output is marginal.
  • On a laptop or handheld, reduce competing USB power loads and confirm that the hub’s power-delivery input is active.
  • With HDMI equipment, use a powered adapter rather than a passive cable.

Console setup has sound but no picture

This usually indicates an incomplete conversion path. Check that the adapter accepts HDMI input, outputs USB-C DP-compatible video, and has external power connected. A USB-C charging adapter or a passive HDMI lead cannot replace that converter.

Ultrawide or spatial options are missing

These functions are not universal across sources. XREAL identifies Ultrawide support for selected device classes such as desktop-mode Android, iPad, Android tablet, Windows and MacBook. A source can work normally while offering only a standard mirrored screen.

Before buying a cable, hub or adapter

  • Write down the exact phone, tablet, laptop or console model.
  • For USB-C sources, verify DP Alt Mode and the 5V/1A power requirement.
  • For HDMI sources, choose an adapter that explicitly provides HDMI-to-USB-C/DP conversion and external power.
  • Check whether you need simultaneous charging; direct phone and handheld connections otherwise consume host-battery capacity.
  • Confirm the adapter’s supported resolution and refresh rate against the source and the mode you intend to use.
  • For Nintendo Switch, decide between the powered XREAL Hub route and a dock plus powered HDMI adapter.
  • Check current XREAL firmware and model-specific compatibility notes, especially for iPhone 16E and newer consoles.

Bottom line

Use XREAL One Pro directly with USB-C devices only when their port carries DisplayPort video and supplies power. That makes supported USB-C iPhones, DP-capable Android phones and tablets, MacBooks, compatible Windows laptops, Steam Deck and ROG Ally straightforward choices. Lightning iPhones, HDMI-only laptops and all major consoles need an appropriate adapter; PlayStation and Xbox require powered HDMI conversion, while Nintendo Switch requires the XREAL Hub or a dock-based powered HDMI route.
