Its pressure-sensitive stylus, advertised wide color coverage, and included foldable stand make it worth considering for a first serious pen display, provided your host supports its video connection and you are comfortable working at Full HD resolution.
What you get for the price of a 15.4-inch screen
The Artist 16 3rd pairs a 15.4-inch, 16:9 display with 1920 × 1080 resolution and a 60 Hz refresh rate. XPPen lists typical brightness at 270 nits, a 178-degree viewing angle, full lamination, and 16.7 million display colors. The company advertises coverage of 99% sRGB, 98% Adobe RGB, and 97% Display P3, as well as Delta E below 1.5. Full HD gives you a 1920 × 1080 workspace rather than the more detailed canvas of a higher-resolution display. At 15.4 inches, whether that looks sufficiently crisp depends partly on viewing distance and personal preference. In his August 25, 2026 review, Gizmochina’s Alex Su wrote that the screen looked “plenty sharp” to him at a normal working distance. That is one reviewer’s subjective impression, not a guarantee for every user. Read Su’s review.

It needs a connected host to work
This is a pen display, not a self-contained tablet: it needs a compatible computer or other supported device to run drawing software and provide its display signal. It can also function as a secondary display when connected. Before buying, check the host’s video output and the cable setup you intend to use; a USB-C connector alone does not establish that a device can send the required video signal.

XPPen lists compatibility with Windows 7 or later, macOS 10.13 or later, Android 10.0 or later, ChromeOS 88 or later, Linux, and Windows ARM. Stylus and drawing controls
The included X4 Smart Chip Stylus uses EMR, so it does not need a battery or charging according to XPPen’s product description. The manufacturer lists 16,384 pressure levels, 60-degree tilt, a 2 g initial activation force, ±0.2 mm center accuracy, and 5080 LPI resolution. These figures describe the published specifications; they do not establish how the pen will feel in every application or after individual calibration.

The review by Alex Su also discusses the X-Dial and shortcut controls, alongside the drawing feel. Those observations are a single reviewer’s account rather than standardized testing. Consider how often you use shortcuts and whether a dial suits your workflow; the controls are most valuable when your software and habits make them useful.

Who should consider the Artist 16 3rd?
A plausible fit
- You want to draw directly on a 15.4-inch screen and already have a computer or compatible device to connect.
- You are comfortable with a 1920 × 1080 workspace and want a display with manufacturer-advertised coverage across sRGB, Adobe RGB, and Display P3.
- You value an included stand, spare nibs, and more than one cable option.
Look elsewhere if
- You need a portable device that runs drawing apps independently, without a host.
- Your computer or Android device cannot provide a compatible video connection.
- You need a higher-resolution canvas than Full HD offers at this screen size.
