Xiaomi Smart Band 10 vs Fitbit Charge 6: Which Fitness Tracker Should You Choose?

By Freedom251 Team · · 12 min read

Choose the Xiaomi Smart Band 10 if you want a larger screen, a broad selection of logged activities and substantially less frequent charging, and you normally carry your phone. Choose the Fitbit Charge 6 if phone-free GPS, Fitbit’s documented ECG and exercise features, and Google services matter more than battery life. The two are the closest screen-equipped comparison in their respective ranges.

“A Fitbit” can also mean the newer Fitbit Air. Air is a screenless tracker, so it is an alternative for someone who wants an unobtrusive wearable—not a like-for-like rival to either display-equipped band. Check current local stock and pricing before buying because availability and offers vary by country.

What you are actually comparing

Xiaomi’s current relevant model is Smart Band 10

Xiaomi’s current official results identify the Xiaomi Smart Band 10 as the company’s relevant latest fitness band for this comparison. It is a slim, screen-equipped tracker with a 1.72-inch AMOLED display, health and sleep monitoring, phone-connected location tracking and a large list of workout profiles. Its appeal is convenience: you can see information on your wrist and leave the charger behind for long stretches.

Charge 6 is the sensible display-to-display Fitbit

Google’s tracker catalog lists both Charge 6 and Fitbit Air. The Fitbit Charge 6 has an AMOLED display, built-in GPS and GLONASS, and the established Fitbit app and Google-service integration. It is therefore the closest comparison to Smart Band 10 in form and everyday use.

Fitbit Air is a different design decision

Fitbit Air is screenless. It can suit somebody who wants passive tracking without notifications or a visible display, but it cannot replace the at-a-glance workout data, clock and notifications that make a screen band useful. Treat Air as a separate “screen or no screen?” choice rather than a third score in this head-to-head.

Does the Xiaomi Smart Band 10 have GPS?

Not independently, according to TechRadar’s Smart Band 10 review. The band relies on the positioning capability of a paired phone. During an outdoor walk or run, you need the phone with you and the Mi Fitness connection and location permissions working if you want a mapped route and phone-derived pace or distance. The review’s GPS description is at TechRadar.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

This is not the same as having no location data. Smart Band 10 can still record workout information when used with a phone; the practical limitation is carrying that phone. A runner who already takes a phone for safety, music or calls may notice little inconvenience. Someone who wants to leave every device except the band at home will notice it immediately.

Charge 6 includes GPS and GLONASS. Google says it can display pace and distance without a phone, although a phone remains useful for syncing, maps, music controls and later analysis. That makes Charge 6 the straightforward choice for phone-free outdoor training. Its GPS specification is listed on Google’s Charge 6 page.

What to check before relying on a route

  • For Smart Band 10, take the paired phone and confirm Bluetooth and location access before starting.
  • For Charge 6, allow time for the watch to acquire satellites in an open area, especially before a race or unfamiliar route.
  • Do not infer route accuracy from the presence of GPS alone. No directly comparable independent accuracy study for these two devices was identified, so there is no defensible winner for distance or heart-rate accuracy.

How long does the battery last?

Smart Band 10: long endurance with scenario-dependent figures

Xiaomi’s published material gives test scenarios rather than one universal runtime. Its product information describes typical-use, always-on-display and heavy-load conditions and warns that actual endurance varies with settings and use. TechRadar reports Xiaomi’s headline estimate as up to 21 days; the reviewer’s own unit lasted 18–19 days. Those numbers describe Xiaomi’s estimate and one reviewer’s experience, not a standardized comparison with Charge 6. See the product material at Xiaomi Philippines and the independent account at TechRadar.

Always-on display, frequent exercise tracking, continuous heart-rate measurement, sleep monitoring and notifications can shorten the interval. If minimizing charging is your priority, Smart Band 10 has the stronger evidence-based case, but plan around your chosen settings rather than assuming 21 days every time.

Charge 6: a shorter official estimate

Google lists Charge 6 at up to seven days. The company says the estimate is approximate, based on mid-2023 tests using pre-production hardware and software, and that always-on display and SpO2 use require more frequent charging. It is therefore a useful planning figure, not a guarantee for every configuration. The qualification appears on Google’s technical specification page.

Charge 6’s shorter interval is the trade-off for built-in GPS and its sensor and app feature set. GPS sessions, bright-screen settings and frequent notifications can consume more power than a basic day of step and sleep tracking.

Workout tracking: mode counts do not equal measurement quality

Smart Band 10’s 150-plus profiles

TechRadar reports more than 150 exercise modes for Smart Band 10. That breadth is useful when you want an activity label in your history, but the review notes that metrics vary: many modes mainly record duration and heart rate rather than providing a full set of sport-specific measurements. A long menu can reflect classification options, not deeper sensing.

Charge 6’s 40-plus modes and Fitbit metrics

Google lists more than 40 exercise modes for Charge 6. The device also supports Active Zone Minutes and a cardio fitness score in the Fitbit ecosystem. A smaller list can still be sufficient if it includes the activities you perform and gives the metrics you actually use. Google’s feature description is available at the Charge 6 product page.

Choose by activity, not headline number

Before deciding, write down your three most common workouts and check which device records the fields you care about: elapsed time, heart rate, route, pace, intervals, elevation or recovery. Neither manufacturer’s mode count establishes superior accuracy, and no controlled independent comparison of the two devices’ measurements is available here.

Health features and the app experience

What Charge 6 documents

Charge 6 supports the ECG app where the feature is available and compatible, an EDA Scan, SpO2 tracking and skin-temperature variation. Google also promotes Google Maps and Google Wallet integration, while Fitbit’s Daily Readiness Score is available with Google Health Premium. Availability can depend on your country, phone compatibility, software version and membership status; a feature shown on a US or Indian product page may not be offered identically in every market. The feature list is on Google’s Charge 6 page.

These are wellness and fitness functions, not a diagnosis. An ECG-compatible tracker does not replace clinical equipment or medical advice, and readings can be affected by fit, motion and skin contact.

What Smart Band 10 emphasizes

Smart Band 10’s review coverage describes heart-rate, sleep and related wellness tracking inside Xiaomi’s Mi Fitness ecosystem. Its attraction is a broad everyday dashboard with a long runtime. The available material does not establish a directly comparable clinical or laboratory advantage over Charge 6, so avoid choosing it—or rejecting it—on an assumed accuracy ranking.

Screenless Fitbit Air

Air’s value is the absence of a display. That can reduce interruptions and make the tracker less conspicuous, but it means checking progress in the phone app rather than on your wrist. If seeing pace, time or notifications during a workout is essential, Air is the wrong form factor regardless of its other capabilities.

Phone compatibility and setup requirements

Smart Band 10 requirements

Xiaomi lists Android 8.0 or later and iOS 14.0 or later for Smart Band 10 on its Australian specifications page, with Mi Fitness as the companion app. Confirm that your phone can install the current app and that your operating system meets the stated minimum before ordering. Older phones may meet these minimums but still deliver a different experience if app support changes.

Charge 6 requirements

Google lists Android 11 or later and iOS 16.4 or later for Charge 6, with Google Health as the companion environment on the specification page. The higher minimums matter if you use an older iPhone or Android handset. Check the current regional requirements at Google’s Charge 6 specifications before purchase.

A practical pre-purchase checklist

  • Record your phone model and operating-system version.
  • Open the relevant app store and confirm Mi Fitness or Google Health is available in your country.
  • Check whether ECG, EDA, SpO2, Daily Readiness, Maps or Wallet are supported in your region and account type.
  • Decide whether you are willing to carry a phone for every GPS workout.
  • Confirm the seller’s return policy in case the band does not fit or pair reliably.

Water resistance: what 5ATM does and does not mean

Smart Band 10 is described as 5ATM and suitable for swimming or shallow water, but Xiaomi excludes hot showers, saunas and diving. Heat, steam, pressure and chemicals can damage seals even when a product carries a depth rating.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

Charge 6 is described as a 50 m/5ATM device for shallow water. Google cautions that it is not waterproof and that resistance can diminish over time. Rinse and dry it after exposure as the manufacturer advises, and remove it for diving, high-pressure water and hot environments. Neither rating is permission to wear the tracker in every aquatic situation.

Fit, straps and day-to-day durability

A single TechRadar reviewer reported that the default Smart Band 10 fluororubber clasp came undone during workouts, sometimes causing the band to fall off. That is an observation from one tested unit, not proof that every clasp fails. If you choose Smart Band 10, test the closure with arm movement before a long run and consider a compatible alternative strap if the fit feels insecure. The review and its exact wording are at TechRadar.

For either device, wear the sensor snugly but comfortably, with the display positioned consistently. A loose band can create gaps that affect heart-rate or SpO2 readings; an excessively tight band can irritate skin. Inspect the clasp and strap after swimming or heavy sweat, and replace damaged bands rather than relying on a compromised fit.

Prices, availability and ownership cost

A reliable current price comparison is not possible from the listed evidence. Xiaomi pricing varies by country and promotion, while Google’s US Charge 6 listing has shown changing list and sale prices. Use the official regional stores or authorized local retailers on the day you buy, and compare the complete package: charger, included strap, shipping, taxes, replacement-band cost and any required premium membership.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

Do not treat a temporary sale price in one country as a global MSRP. Availability can also change as Google updates its tracker catalog and Xiaomi changes regional stock. The Google tracker catalog is useful for confirming which Fitbit models are currently offered in the market you are shopping.

Which should you choose?

Choose Xiaomi Smart Band 10 when these statements describe you

  • You want a larger listed display and extensive activity-profile selection.
  • You prefer charging roughly every couple of weeks rather than about once a week.
  • You normally carry your phone and do not need independent route recording.
  • Your phone meets Android 8.0 or iOS 14.0 requirements and Mi Fitness is available locally.
  • You are comfortable with wellness tracking that does not have the Charge 6’s documented ECG, EDA and Google-service feature set.

Choose Fitbit Charge 6 when these statements describe you

  • You want built-in GPS and GLONASS so a run or ride can be recorded without a phone.
  • You value ECG app compatibility, EDA Scan, SpO2, skin-temperature variation or Fitbit’s Active Zone Minutes and cardio fitness score, subject to regional and membership limits.
  • You already use Google Health and want Google Maps or Wallet integration on the band.
  • You accept a shorter, approximately seven-day official battery estimate and more frequent charging when GPS, always-on display or SpO2 are used.
  • Your phone meets the higher Android 11 or iOS 16.4 minimum.

Choose a screenless Fitbit Air instead when

  • You specifically want a tracker without a wrist display.
  • You are happy to review progress in an app rather than glance at the band during exercise.
  • You prioritize an unobtrusive form over on-device route, pace, time and notification information.

Setup checklists for the first day

Smart Band 10

  1. Install Mi Fitness on a phone that meets Xiaomi’s stated operating-system requirement.
  2. Charge the band, open Mi Fitness and follow its pairing process.
  3. Allow Bluetooth, notification and location permissions that you want the band to use.
  4. For GPS workouts, keep the phone with you and confirm the connection before starting.
  5. Wear the band securely, then record a short walk and a short workout to verify that heart-rate and route data appear in the app.
  6. Review display, notification and continuous-sensor settings after the first full day so the battery estimate matches how you actually use the device.

Charge 6

  1. Install Google Health on a compatible Android or iPhone and complete the account setup.
  2. Pair and update the tracker before relying on it for a race, trip or health trend.
  3. Check which ECG, EDA, SpO2, Daily Readiness, Maps and Wallet features are enabled in your country and account.
  4. Start a short outdoor GPS workout in an open area and compare the recorded route and distance with your expectations.
  5. Set notification and always-on-display preferences, then observe the first charging interval instead of assuming the maximum estimate.
  6. Wear the device consistently for sleep and wellness trends; irregular fit makes comparisons between days less useful.

Common pitfalls and fixes

“My Smart Band route is missing”

Check that the phone was present, Bluetooth remained connected and location permission was granted. A phone-free run cannot be recovered as a band-generated GPS track because Smart Band 10 does not provide independent GPS in the cited review.

“The battery is nowhere near the advertised figure”

Compare your settings with the manufacturer’s test assumptions. Always-on display, GPS sessions, SpO2, frequent workouts, continuous sensors and many notifications all change consumption. Xiaomi’s 21-day figure and Google’s seven-day figure are maximum-style estimates with stated qualifications, not guaranteed minimums.

“A health feature is unavailable”

Check country, phone compatibility, app version and membership first. Google explicitly qualifies Charge 6 features by location and service requirements; a product page from another market does not guarantee local access.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

“The tracker got wet”

Remove it from heat, steam and high-pressure water, dry it thoroughly and follow the manufacturer’s care guidance. Do not interpret 5ATM as protection for diving, sauna use or hot showers.

“The band feels loose during exercise”

Reposition and tighten it enough to maintain contact without discomfort. For Smart Band 10, pay particular attention to the clasp because one TechRadar reviewer reported accidental opening; test an alternative compatible strap if the supplied one does not stay secure.

The short decision

Smart Band 10 is the battery-and-display choice for phone-carrying users who want many activity labels and minimal charging. Charge 6 is the independence-and-ecosystem choice for people who need phone-free GPS and its documented Fitbit and Google health features. Fitbit Air belongs in the conversation only when a screenless wearable is the goal. No available evidence supports declaring either screened band more accurate overall, so make the decision on GPS independence, battery routine, feature availability, phone compatibility and fit.
