The Redmi Turbo 5 has the stronger stated chipset and faster charging, while the Redmi Note 17 Pro 5G has the bigger screen and the larger listed battery. Neither wins on paper across the board. The ₹5,000 gap between the two phones on Xiaomi India’s store, checked on 4 October 2026, also compares different storage tiers, so it does not show which one is the better buy at the same price.
Why the price gap is not a like-for-like comparison
On Xiaomi India’s store, the Redmi Turbo 5 in 8 GB + 256 GB was listed at ₹41,999, and the Redmi Note 17 Pro 5G in 8 GB + 128 GB was listed at ₹36,999, both as shown on 4 October 2026. The Turbo 5 therefore carries double the storage of the Note at the same RAM level. Comparing those two prices as if they bought the same phone overstates the difference.

- Spain (2026): Cinco Días reported Note 17 Pro 5G configurations from €479.99 for 6 GB + 256 GB, with higher-capacity tiers priced differently.
- China (launch, 2026): Cinco Días reported Note 17 Pro launch prices of CNY 1,599, 1,699, 1,999 and 2,099 for the memory tiers it specified. These are secondary launch reports, not current international street prices.
Third-party listings also conflict with Xiaomi’s own store. 91mobiles shows the Turbo 5 at ₹41,999 on Amazon and labels the Note 17 Pro 5G as upcoming or unavailable in its comparison data, even though Xiaomi India’s store lists both phones for sale. Treat the 91mobiles figures as possibly stale, and confirm live stock and seller before buying from any marketplace.

To compare fairly, match RAM and storage first. If you can only find one of the two phones at a different storage level, compare the per-gigabyte cost and the features you actually need rather than the headline prices.

Specifications differ by market. Xiaomi’s Mexico and Saudi Arabia pages for the Note 17 Pro 5G show different configurations and network presentations, so a single spec sheet should not be assumed to describe every unit sold under that name.

Processor and performance
The Turbo 5 uses the higher-tier platform on paper: MediaTek’s Dimensity 8500 Ultra, against the Snapdragon 6s Gen 4 in the Note 17 Pro 5G. Xiaomi’s product page describes the Turbo 5 as “The Fastest Processor In A REDMI Yet!” That is manufacturer marketing, not a benchmark result. No fair, independent speed test comparing the two phones was found in the material reviewed for this article, so the chip difference is a specification difference only. Real-world speed under sustained gaming, thermal throttling and multitasking remains unverified for both.
Display
The Note 17 Pro 5G has the larger listed screen, at 6.83 inches against the 6.59 inches cited for the Turbo 5 by a third-party listing. Both are listed with 120 Hz refresh and 3500 nits peak brightness. Peak brightness figures depend on how they are measured, and the Note 17 Pro 5G’s 3500-nit figure is tied to Xiaomi’s UHBM label on the Mexico page. Panel quality, color accuracy and outdoor readability were not tested, so the listed numbers are the only basis for comparison here.

Battery and charging
The Note 17 Pro 5G lists the larger battery, at 8340 mAh typical against 7540 mAh for the Turbo 5. The Turbo 5 lists the faster charger, at 100 W against 67 W. Those numbers pull in opposite directions. A larger battery at slower charging can take a similar or longer time to fill than a smaller battery at higher wattage, and neither figure predicts how long the phone lasts on a charge. Runtime depends on the screen, the chip and usage patterns, none of which were measured here.
Reverse charging is also listed differently: 27 W on the Turbo 5 and up to 22.5 W wired on the Note 17 Pro 5G. Reverse charging matters only if you plan to charge accessories from the phone.

Cameras
Both phones list a 50 MP main camera, but megapixel count alone does not establish image quality. The Note 17 Pro 5G pairs its 50 MP OIS main camera with an 8 MP ultra-wide lens, and its regional specifications list rear video up to 1080p at 30 fps. The Turbo 5 is advertised with a 50 MP AI dual camera and 4K recording with OIS plus EIS. Video stabilization and recording modes differ, so the two phones should not be treated as equivalent without side-by-side samples. The front cameras also differ on the listed figures: 20 MP for the Turbo 5 from a third-party listing, and 16 MP for the Note 17 Pro 5G on Xiaomi’s Saudi Arabia page.

Both phones carry IP66, IP68, IP69 and IP69K ratings on Xiaomi’s pages. These ratings describe specific test conditions. Xiaomi states that protection is not guaranteed outside those conditions, so the ratings do not mean the phone is safe in every case of water exposure, and accidental damage is generally not covered by these ratings.

Regional and connectivity checks before you buy
Before ordering, confirm these points for the exact model you are buying:
- 5G band support for your carrier, since Xiaomi states that band coverage varies by region.
- eSIM support, which Xiaomi also says depends on region and carrier.
- NFC availability. The Mexico page lists NFC as unavailable in that market, so it may not be present on every regional variant.
- Warranty and service coverage in your country, especially for imported units.
- Software and feature availability, which can differ between regional firmware builds.
Which one should you buy?
- Choose the Redmi Turbo 5 if you want the higher-tier chip on paper, faster 100 W charging, and 256 GB of storage at 8 GB RAM in the India configuration.
- Choose the Redmi Note 17 Pro 5G if you want the bigger 6.83-inch screen, the larger listed battery, and a lower price in the India configuration with 128 GB storage.
- Check the storage before comparing prices. If you need 256 GB, the Note 17 Pro 5G 256 GB variant or the Turbo 5 are the fair comparison points; the ₹5,000 gap alone does not decide the matter.
- Confirm regional support for your carrier, eSIM, NFC and warranty before purchase.
