Redmi Note 6 Pro is a genuine Xiaomi phone, but “M4834” is not confirmed as an official Xiaomi model designation. Treat M4834 as a seller, inventory, database, or listing code until the handset’s About phone screen, IMEI, box label, or regulatory marking proves otherwise. The phone remains usable as an inexpensive 4G secondary device, but its software support has ended and regional network compatibility must be checked before purchase.
What does “M4834” identify?
Xiaomi’s official product pages identify the handset as Redmi Note 6 Pro; they do not list M4834 as a retail model number. Firmware references commonly associate this phone with the internal codename tulip (documented firmware list).
M4834 could be a marketplace SKU, repair-database identifier, catalog code, OCR mistake, or informal variant label. None of those possibilities establishes a separate Xiaomi model. Do not infer a region, memory size, radio configuration, or authenticity from M4834 alone.
How to verify a listing
- Open Settings → About phone → Detailed info and specs → Model.
- Record the IMEI under Settings → About phone → Status and check it with the intended carrier or a reputable blacklist service.
- Request a clear photograph of the box label and any FCC, CE, or other regulatory marking.
- Record the MIUI build number and regional suffix.
- Compare the physical phone, software information, and IMEI; mismatches are a reason to walk away.

Software status in 2026
The phone launched with MIUI on Android, with firmware history covering Android 8.1 and Android 9. The latest documented global stable release located for codename tulip is MIUI 12, Android 9, build V12.0.1.0.PEKMIXM; the listed entry carries a November 2020 security patch (firmware history). That is a documented global endpoint, not a guarantee that every regional handset has it installed.
Xiaomi’s current security policy lists Redmi Note 6 Pro among products no longer receiving normal software or firmware maintenance (Xiaomi security-support policy). Xiaomi reserves the possibility of an exceptional fix for a severe vulnerability, but owners should not expect routine Android, MIUI, or security updates.

It can still handle calls, messaging, Wi-Fi, music, and light applications. However, app requirements may increasingly exclude Android 9, and sensitive uses such as banking, password management, and business authentication carry a weaker security posture than on a supported phone. A custom ROM may extend app compatibility for an experienced user, but bootloader unlocking, recovery installation, data loss, banking-app failures, and recovery problems are real risks; it cannot add 5G, newer storage, or a fresh battery.
Network compatibility: do not rely on “4G” alone
The Redmi Note 6 Pro is 4G-only. Band support differs by region, and compatible frequencies do not guarantee working calls: VoLTE provisioning, carrier certification, SIM policy, and network shutdown rules also matter. The global specification includes LTE Band 4, relevant to some US networks, while the Indian specification does not list the same set.

For a US or imported purchase, obtain the IMEI and exact regional model, then ask the carrier to confirm LTE, VoLTE, and certification compatibility. “M4834” by itself is not enough evidence.
Used-phone inspection checklist
- Identity: Match About phone, IMEI, box label, and physical device; check blacklist status.
- Software: Record Android version, MIUI build, security-patch date, bootloader state, and any unofficial-ROM warning.
- Battery: Test for rapid drain, heat, shutdowns, charging interruptions, or swelling. The original 4,000 mAh rating does not describe present capacity in an aging handset.
- Display: Test touch across the entire panel, dead zones, burn-in, brightness, and notch-area response.
- Cameras and sensors: Test both rear cameras, both front cameras, autofocus, flash, fingerprint reader, proximity sensor, gyroscope, compass, and IR blaster.
- Connectivity: Test SIM detection, calls and VoLTE, LTE data, both Wi-Fi bands, Bluetooth, GPS, and the headphone jack.
- Ports: Check micro-USB fit, charging stability, data transfer, and OTG.
- Accounts: Have the previous owner remove Google and Xiaomi accounts before a proper factory reset. Account protection can make a reset phone unusable.
Who should buy it?
Reasonable use cases
- An existing owner needs a basic secondary or Wi-Fi phone.
- A buyer specifically needs a headphone jack, IR blaster, microSD slot, or dual-SIM capability.
- A verified regional variant is available at a very low price and passes inspection.
- A technically capable user accepts custom-ROM and maintenance risks.
Poor use cases
- Primary banking, work, password-management, or security-sensitive use.
- Dependable US-carrier service without an IMEI and VoLTE check.
- 5G, USB-C, fast storage, or long remaining software support.
- A unit with an original degraded battery or multiple expensive repairs.
- A price close to a newer, supported budget phone.
A July 2026 Gadgets 360 listing showed approximately ₹9,999–₹10,690 for used or marketplace-style Indian 4 GB/64 GB and 6 GB/64 GB entries (4 GB/64 GB page; 6 GB/64 GB page). These are third-party India price signals, not official Xiaomi prices or a universal fair value. Calculate total cost as purchase price plus likely battery, cable, screen, port, and compatibility costs.
