It may be a seller SKU, database alias, label-reading error, or another internal identifier. Before buying, activating, or flashing the phone, confirm the model number, region, storage, firmware, IMEI and supported bands.
What “Redmi 4A M3407” actually identifies
Redmi 4A is a genuine, discontinued Xiaomi smartphone from the MIUI 8 era. Xiaomi’s official pages identify the retail product simply as Redmi 4A; they do not list M3407. Firmware and regulatory references instead associate Redmi 4A variants with identifiers such as 2016117, 2016111, 2016116 and 2016112, and with the firmware codename rolex. Those identifiers are not proven equivalents of M3407.
Therefore, treat M3407 as an unresolved designation rather than a guaranteed “global” model, hardware revision or special edition. It could be a marketplace inventory code, OCR or typing error, refurbisher label, device-database alias, or a reference to a different Xiaomi product. The Mi Router 4A, for example, is a separate networking product, not this phone.
Verified Redmi 4A hardware
The following specifications come from Xiaomi’s regional product documentation. Storage and radio support vary by market, so do not apply one row to every handset.

See Xiaomi’s China specification page for the 2 GB/16 GB configuration. Xiaomi India documents a 3 GB/32 GB model at mi.com/in/redmi4a, Russia lists 2 GB/32 GB at mi.com/ru/redmi4a/specs, and Egypt describes both 16 GB and 32 GB versions at mi.com/eg/redmi4a/specs. Advertised capacity is not the same as free space: MIUI and preinstalled applications consume part of it.
China, India and global radio differences
Regional Redmi 4A versions are not interchangeable for network purposes. Xiaomi’s China page lists GSM B2/B3/B5/B8, WCDMA B1/B2/B5/B8, TD-SCDMA B34/B39, CDMA2000/1X BC0, FDD-LTE B1/B3/B7 and TD-LTE B38/B39/B40/B41. Xiaomi’s Russia/global-oriented page includes a different LTE mix, including B4, B5 and B20 alongside B1, B3, B7, B38 and B40.
Third-party databases such as Kimovil’s regional comparison can help cross-check the lists, but the phone’s exact label and official regional documentation should take priority. A “global ROM” changes software language and applications; it does not add missing antennas or LTE bands.
How to identify the exact handset
- Open the device information page. Try Settings → About phone or Settings → My device. MIUI wording differs by version and language. Record the model name, model number, MIUI and Android versions, RAM, storage, baseband and build number.
- Inspect the box and rear label. Look for the model number, IMEI, regulatory marks and market designation. A label that conflicts with the software or hardware needs explanation.
- Display the IMEI. Dial
*#06#. Keep the full number private; share only a masked image with a seller, carrier or repairer. - Check the physical configuration. Confirm the hybrid SIM/microSD tray, micro-USB port, headphone jack and (if claimed) IR emitter. Verify RAM and storage in Settings rather than from the listing title.
- Compare software and radio details. Note whether Google Play services are preinstalled and whether the build is Chinese or global-oriented. Compare the reported bands with the relevant Xiaomi regional page.
- Resolve every mismatch before payment. Ask for an About-phone screenshot, model-label photograph, masked IMEI, storage/RAM screen, MIUI-version screen and SIM-tray photograph. Do not infer the variant from color or RAM alone.
Regulatory material hosted by FCC documentation identifies model 2016117. A firmware reference at MiFirm lists several Redmi 4A identifiers. Neither source establishes M3407 as one of them.

Will it work on your carrier?
There is no safe universal “works with” answer for Redmi 4A. Activation depends on the exact model, local LTE bands, carrier provisioning, VoLTE support, unlock status and network changes. Band overlap alone does not guarantee service.
Before buying
- Get the exact model number and, privately, the IMEI.
- Run the IMEI through the carrier’s official compatibility and blacklist tools.
- Compare supported LTE bands with those used where the phone will operate.
- Confirm VoLTE support and provisioning, not merely 4G band numbers.
- Verify that the handset is unlocked and obtain a return agreement if activation fails.
United States caution
Imported Redmi 4A units are particularly risky in the United States because carriers have retired or reduced older 2G and 3G networks. A frequency reference for one 2016111 variant reports very limited U.S. compatibility and warns that matching frequencies do not ensure access: frequencycheck.com compatibility details. Check the intended carrier’s current IMEI tool before purchase; do not rely on claims such as “works with AT&T,” “works with T-Mobile” or “works with Verizon.”
Software and security in 2026
The phone launched with MIUI 8. Later firmware references associate Redmi 4A with MIUI 10 based on Android 7.1, but that is not the installed version on every surviving unit. A third-party support reference describes the model as end-of-life at miuirom.org; Xiaomi’s pages cited here do not provide a current 2026 security-support statement.
In practical terms, treat an unmodified Redmi 4A as obsolete for security-sensitive use. It is a poor choice for banking, business administration, password storage or accounts that require current patches. Community ROMs may extend usefulness, but they can introduce bootloader, recovery, DRM, camera, battery, banking-app or cellular problems. Never flash a ROM until the regional model is positively identified; the wrong package can cause boot, radio or partition failure.

Is a Redmi 4A worth buying now?
Reasonable uses
- Basic calls and messaging after carrier verification.
- Offline music, camera, navigation or media playback.
- A low-risk temporary phone or repair project.
- Lightweight Android experimentation.
Poor uses
- Primary daily use requiring current apps and security.
- Secure banking or work accounts.
- Modern games or demanding multitasking.
- U.S. cellular use without exact IMEI and VoLTE confirmation.
- Any purchase based only on a “M3407 global version” claim.
Expect an aged built-in battery, slow 5 V/1 A micro-USB charging, limited internal storage, no 5G, no NFC documented here and uncertain app compatibility. A replacement battery or repair can cost more than the handset is worth. Use a suitable 5 V/1 A charger rather than assuming that any high-voltage fast charger is appropriate.

Low available storage
Less free space than the printed 16 GB or 32 GB is normal because the operating system and bundled applications occupy part of the capacity. Use a compatible microSD card for media where possible.
microSD card is not detected
Check that the hybrid tray is not occupied by two SIM cards. Back up data, then test a known-good card up to 128 GB in VFAT format. A damaged card, unsupported filesystem, poor-quality media or incorrect seller configuration can all cause failure.
Rapid drain or sudden shutdowns
Years of use commonly reduce battery capacity. Other causes include background activity, a poor replacement cell, cable or port damage, and software faults. Have a qualified technician inspect the battery; replacement economics may not make sense.

Stuck on the Mi logo
A failed update, corrupted system partition, modified bootloader, incompatible firmware or hardware fault may be responsible. Do not follow a generic flashing guide: identify the exact model and region first and back up anything recoverable.
Google Play is missing
Chinese-market software or altered firmware may omit Google Play services. This does not by itself prove counterfeiting, but it warrants checking the ROM region and seller description.
Bottom line
Redmi 4A is a real but discontinued Xiaomi phone. M3407 is not established as an official Redmi 4A model identifier, so the listing should remain unverified until the handset’s About-phone data, label, IMEI, firmware region and radio bands agree. For a 2026 purchase, use it only for low-risk, basic tasks after carrier and battery checks; choose a current entry-level phone for secure primary use.
