Shenzhen Duoqin made it and promoted it through Xiaomi’s Youpin crowdfunding ecosystem. Its compact design, physical T9-style keys and limited software remain appealing; uncertain LTE bands, VoLTE support, aging batteries and the lack of current support make it a risky primary phone—especially in the United States.
What the Xiaomi Qin 1S actually is
The Qin 1S is the 4G successor to the 2G Qin 1. Xiaomi’s association came through Youpin and ecosystem promotion, while launch clarification identified Shenzhen Duoqin Technology as the maker rather than Xiaomi’s core handset division. See the launch clarification.
It is also unrelated to the Redmi 1S. The Redmi model was a touchscreen Android phone running MIUI, as shown by Xiaomi’s Redmi 1S product page. Qin 1S+ and later Qin/Duoqin phones are separate products with potentially different radios, software and batteries.
Specifications and launch context
The phone launched in China in 2018 through Xiaomi Youpin for 199 yuan. That is a historical launch price, not a 2026 market value; current listings are typically imported, used or old stock. Launch coverage is available from Gadgets 360 and The Indian Express.

Feature-phone software, not a tiny Android smartphone
The Qin 1S uses a lightweight Mocor 5/Android-derived environment. Android foundations do not provide a normal Google Play experience. Do not assume that Google Mobile Services, WhatsApp, banking, rideshare, modern navigation or streaming apps will install or function.
Launch material promoted Xiao AI and real-time voice translation. Those functions may depend on Chinese firmware, network access and remote services, so an imported handset should not be expected to provide them in every country. Marketplace descriptions calling the original phone “KaiOS,” “Android 11” or a full Android device are unreliable without a manual or direct device inspection; see the contemporary platform description from The Indian Express.
4G bands and carrier compatibility
“4G” on the box is not enough. You need the exact hardware version, its LTE bands, VoLTE behavior, carrier approval and local coverage.

One published specification lists FDD-LTE bands 1, 2, 3, 5 and 8 (Welte). Another listing mentions Band 40 and Bluetooth 4.2 (Gadgets 360). The conflict indicates that regional variants or inconsistent databases exist; do not merge the lists into a universal specification.

The original Qin 1S was not designed for the U.S. market. Its commonly reported bands do not establish dependable nationwide coverage, and uncertainty around important U.S. bands—including Bands 4 and 12 in many deployments—makes service location-dependent. LTE data also does not guarantee voice: carriers may require approved VoLTE profiles and IMEI authorization. No evidence here establishes current AT&T, Verizon or T-Mobile certification for the original model.
The responsible conclusion is that it may obtain service in some places or on some networks, but it is not a dependable U.S. phone without carrier-specific confirmation and an IMEI test.

- Please be attention that screen protector is flexible plastic film, Not Tempered Glass.
- TPU material with smooth surface, keep you a high touch sensitive and fast fingerprint recognition.
- 4H Hardness can effectively resist daily scratches.
- Self-healing properties enable the film to recover from minor scratches and keep your screen brand new.
- Dust-free,bubble free,one-push super easily installation.
Pre-purchase compatibility procedure
- Ask for a photograph of the model and radio label on the exact unit.
- Request the complete LTE band list and whether VoLTE is enabled on its firmware.
- Use the intended carrier’s compatibility tool and obtain an IMEI check through a legitimate purchase or return process.
- Confirm a meaningful return period if voice service fails.
- Test outbound and inbound calls, SMS, LTE data and emergency calling; an LTE icon alone proves nothing.
Common network failures
- 4G appears but calls fail: VoLTE authorization, SIM provisioning, carrier approval, firmware or retired 3G fallback may be responsible.
- It works in one city but not another: the phone may overlap only one local LTE band.
- Travel use fails: roaming partners may rely on unsupported bands or carrier voice profiles.
Battery and everyday usability
The 1,480mAh cell is substantial for a small feature phone, but the 15-day standby and 420-minute talk figures are launch claims. LTE signal strength, VoLTE, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, GPS, translation services and hotspot use change endurance. In 2026, battery age is often more important than nominal capacity; a sealed cell also makes replacement harder.
Physical keys make calling and short T9 messages straightforward, while the small screen discourages prolonged browsing. Trade-offs include difficult-to-read menus, slow long-form typing, untranslated imported menus and limited flexibility compared with even basic modern smartphones.
Who should buy the Qin 1S?
- Collectors of unusual Xiaomi Youpin or Duoqin hardware.
- Minimalist users who have verified local bands and VoLTE.
- People wanting a compact secondary phone in a region where the exact variant is supported.
Who should avoid it?
- Anyone needing dependable U.S. primary-phone service.
- Users who require Google Play, WhatsApp, banking, maps, rideshare or streaming.
- Parents who need guaranteed emergency contact and modern administration tools.
- Travelers expecting universal roaming.
- Buyers whose seller cannot identify the model, bands, firmware or return terms.
Qin 1S versus a newer minimalist phone
| Priority | Qin 1S | Newer purpose-built alternative |
|---|---|---|
| Distraction reduction | Strong | Usually strong |
| Physical keypad | Strong | Model-dependent |
| Modern apps | Weak | Model-dependent, usually clearer |
| Carrier certification | Uncertain by region | Often better documented |
| Software updates | Unclear and likely limited | Generally clearer support policy |
| Battery replacement and warranty | Weak for old imports | Usually easier to verify |
| Novelty and collectability | Strong | Lower |
For current options, investigate the exact model rather than assuming every newer Qin is compatible. Official destinations include Duoqin, Light Phone, Punkt MP02 and HMD. Confirm country-specific bands, VoLTE, warranty and pricing yourself.
Buying checklist
- Exact model is Qin 1S, not Qin 1, Qin 1S+, F21, F22 or another Qin.
- Complete LTE bands match the intended carrier.
- VoLTE and IMEI acceptance are confirmed.
- Firmware language and available services suit the user.
- Battery condition, charger and accessories are documented.
- Seller offers returns and has a credible reputation.
- Price reflects an old import rather than the historical 199-yuan launch price.
Verdict
The Qin 1S remains an appealing compact keypad phone and an unusual piece of the Xiaomi-Duoqin ecosystem. It is sensible only as a verified niche import, collector device or secondary minimalist phone. For a dependable primary phone in 2026—especially in the United States—a currently supported model with documented regional LTE and VoLTE compatibility is the safer choice.
