Xiaomi Pad 9 Pro Max vs. Samsung Galaxy Tab S12 Ultra: Which Android Tablet Is Right for You?

Choose based on availability first. The Xiaomi Pad 9 Pro Max has the more unusual specification sheet—a 13.3-inch 3:2 144Hz LCD, USB-C video input and 120W charging—but it was reported as a China-only launch on September 7, 2026, with international sales, warranty and pricing still unconfirmed. Samsung’s Galaxy Tab S12 Ultra is the safer choice for buyers who can purchase locally and value a 14.6-inch AMOLED display, an included S Pen, IP68 protection and microSD expansion. The smaller 12.6-inch Galaxy Tab S12+ is worth considering if the Ultra is too large.

What this comparison actually covers

“Samsung Galaxy Tab” describes a family rather than one tablet. For a meaningful large-screen flagship comparison, this guide uses the Galaxy Tab S12 Ultra, announced by Samsung on September 30, 2026. Samsung also offers the 12.6-inch Galaxy Tab S12+, which is the relevant smaller alternative. The Xiaomi model is the Pad 9 Pro Max, reported by Notebookcheck from Xiaomi’s September 7, 2026 China launch.

The evidence supports a specification and buying-fit comparison, not a hands-on ranking. There is no established independent head-to-head benchmark, battery test, display measurement or confirmed international Xiaomi price here. Where a figure comes from a manufacturer, it is labeled as a claim rather than an independently measured result.

Quick decision: which tablet fits which buyer?

If you prioritize… Better specification fit Why
Official local purchase and predictable support Galaxy Tab S12 Ultra Samsung has announced the S12 series and publishes U.S. specifications; Xiaomi’s international availability, warranty and localized pricing were not confirmed in the launch report.
A 3:2 canvas for documents and split-screen work Xiaomi Pad 9 Pro Max The reported 13.3-inch 3:2 panel is taller than a typical widescreen tablet, giving documents and vertical apps more room.
OLED contrast and Samsung’s pen ecosystem Galaxy Tab S12 Ultra It uses a 14.6-inch Dynamic AMOLED 2X display and includes an S Pen.
Very fast wired charging Xiaomi Pad 9 Pro Max The launch report lists a 12,000mAh battery and 120W charging, subject to local charger and safety specifications.
Removable storage Galaxy Tab S12 Ultra Samsung lists microSD expansion up to 2TB. The cited Xiaomi launch report does not establish microSD support.
A tablet that can receive video over USB-C Xiaomi Pad 9 Pro Max Launch reporting says its USB-C port supports DisplayPort video input, allowing the tablet to act as a secondary display.
Water and dust resistance Galaxy Tab S12 Ultra Samsung lists an IP68 rating. No Xiaomi rating was established in the cited launch report.
A smaller flagship than the Ultra Galaxy Tab S12+ The S12+ has a 12.6-inch screen, compared with 14.6 inches on the Ultra.

Display, aspect ratio and physical working space

Xiaomi’s 13.3-inch 3:2 LCD

The Pad 9 Pro Max is reported to use a 13.3-inch LCD with a 3:2 aspect ratio, 3,408 × 2,272 resolution and a 144Hz refresh rate. A 3:2 screen is noticeably taller than the widescreen panels used by many tablets. That shape is useful for reading, editing documents, viewing web pages and placing two portrait-oriented apps side by side. It also wastes less space when a video is letterboxed, although the exact bars depend on the video’s aspect ratio.

  • POWER FOR ALL YOU DO: Galaxy Tab A11+ gives your family the optimal performance they need for all their day-to-day activities. Power through tasks, relax with a movie or jump into a game — the upgraded chipset⁴ keeps everything responsive
  • CHARGES UP FAST. LASTS FOR HOURS: Galaxy Tab A11+ keeps your family going with a long-lasting battery that’s perfect for browsing, streaming and play. When you finally need a boost, fast charging gets you back to 100% quickly.⁵
  • MEMORY AND STORAGE THAT KEEP UP: With up to 8GB of memory and 256GB⁶ of storage, Galaxy Tab A11+ gives your family the space and speed to multitask seamlessly and handle large files.
  • BIG SCREEN. FAMILY-SIZED FUN: A bright, engaging 11" screen¹ with a refresh rate up to 90Hz delivers natural, fluid motion, making it easy for every family member to stream, play and do what they love.
  • SURROUND YOURSELF WITH RICH AUDIO SOUND: Whether you're watching a movie or listening to your favorite playlist, immerse yourself in a cinema-like audio experience with quad speakers powered by Dolby Atmos on Galaxy Tab A11+

Xiaomi’s reported “up to 1,000 nits” figure is a stated maximum, not an independently measured sustained brightness result. LCD technology can still be a sensible choice for productivity because static documents do not carry the same burn-in considerations associated with some self-emissive panels, but this comparison does not establish which screen looks better in person.

Samsung’s 14.6-inch Dynamic AMOLED 2X

The Galaxy Tab S12 Ultra has a larger 14.6-inch Dynamic AMOLED 2X display at 2,960 × 1,848 and 120Hz. Samsung’s AMOLED branding indicates the panel technology it uses; the cited specification does not provide an independent contrast, color or brightness measurement. The extra diagonal area favors drawing, large timelines, desktop-style layouts and watching video with a more expansive image.

The Ultra’s size is also its main handling trade-off. A 14.6-inch tablet occupies more room in a bag and on a lap than a 12.6- or 13.3-inch model. If you want Samsung’s software and accessories but do not need the largest canvas, the S12+ is the more proportionate comparison.

144Hz versus 120Hz

On paper, Xiaomi has the higher refresh-rate ceiling: 144Hz versus Samsung’s 120Hz. That can make scrolling and supported games look smoother, but refresh rate alone does not prove lower latency, better motion handling or longer battery life. App support, processor behavior and display tuning determine the experience, and no independent motion test is established here.

Performance: what the chips do—and what is not yet known

Xiaomi Xring O3

The Pad 9 Pro Max is reported with Xiaomi’s Xring O3 processor. Notebookcheck’s launch coverage also reported Xiaomi performance and benchmark claims. Those numbers should be read as manufacturer claims presented in launch reporting, not as a neutral laboratory comparison with Samsung.

  • NEXT-LEVEL NOTE TAKING: Get transcripts and summaries of recorded lectures and meetings, just like that.⁵
  • PACKED WITH POWER: No matter what you take on or where you take your Galaxy Tab S10+, enjoy every experience with a powerful tablet processor.

Samsung’s 3nm platform

Samsung identifies a 3nm processor for the Galaxy Tab S12 Ultra and describes performance gains over the previous S11 Ultra generation. Those are Samsung’s generational claims. They do not establish that the Ultra is faster than the Xring O3 in a particular app, game or sustained workload.

How to make a performance decision responsibly

  • For office apps, browsing and media, both tablets have flagship positioning on paper; the available specifications cannot identify a practical winner.
  • For demanding games or video work, wait for independent tests that measure sustained performance, heat and throttling rather than relying on a launch benchmark.
  • Check the exact RAM and storage configuration. Xiaomi is reported up to 16GB/1TB, while Samsung’s listed configuration uses 12GB RAM and adds microSD capacity.
  • Confirm regional software support before importing the Xiaomi model. The cited launch material does not establish localized firmware, update policy or language availability.

Battery and charging are not directly comparable here

Xiaomi’s capacity and charging specification

Launch reporting lists a 12,000mAh battery and 120W charging for the Pad 9 Pro Max. Capacity and charging wattage describe hardware potential, not the number of hours you will obtain. Screen brightness, refresh rate, cellular radios, background apps, temperature and charger compatibility all affect results. The cited material does not provide an independently measured endurance result.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

Samsung’s 23-hour playback claim

Samsung advertises up to 23 hours of video playback for the Galaxy Tab S12 Ultra. Its stated test uses local 720p video, 162-nit brightness, the default player, earbuds volume set to 7, and both Wi-Fi and mobile networking turned off. Samsung notes that results vary with settings and use. This is not a directly comparable test against Xiaomi’s 12,000mAh capacity figure, so neither number should be presented as proof that one tablet lasts longer in normal mixed use.

What charging means in practice

The Xiaomi specification is attractive if you regularly start a work session with a low battery and have a compatible high-power charger. Verify what charger is supplied in your market and whether local electrical certification applies; the launch report does not establish those details. Samsung’s published material in the cited sources does not state a comparable charging wattage, so there is no fair charging-speed verdict from these specifications alone.

Work accessories, stylus support and unusual ports

Samsung includes the S Pen

Samsung lists an S Pen in the Galaxy Tab S12 Ultra package. That makes handwriting, annotation and sketching available without adding the pen’s purchase price, although the cited material does not define every software feature or replacement-cost detail. Samsung also lists Book Cover Keyboard options for buyers who want a laptop-style setup; confirm whether a keyboard is bundled with the specific retail package you are considering.

Samsung Galaxy Tab S10 Lite, 6GB RAM, 128GB, 2TB Expand, 10.9” LCD, Gray | Long Battery Life, S Pen for Note-Taking, Exynos 1380, Circle to Search, AI Tools
  • DIVE INTO THIS DISPLAY: All of your fun content pops on the 10.9" screen. Catch up on plans for the day while you cook breakfast, scroll your social feed in the evening or read an article in bed. Vision Booster adjusts the brightness to your environment
  • BATTERY FOR LONG-LASTING ENTERTAINMENT: Enjoy long-lasting fun. Finish your favorite series or book with a battery that can last up to 16 hours.¹ Need energy quick? Get a full charge in about two hours with Super Fast Charging.²
  • WRITE, DRAW, DO IT ALL: S Pen is mightier than your average writing tool. The responsive design and intuitive integration with intelligent features make drawing, jotting down notes and even doing math easier than ever
  • SPACE TO KEEP WHAT MATTERS MOST: More storage means deleting less apps, photos, videos and files. Galaxy Tab S10 Lite comes with up to 256GB³ of storage. And if you need even more, you can add up to 2TB with a microSD card.⁹
  • THE POWER OF ENHANCED PERFORMANCE: Galaxy Tab S10 Lite boasts an Exynos 1380 processor that lets you stream, scroll, note, search and even multitask with ease

Xiaomi’s keyboard is an additional purchase

The Pad 9 Pro Max’s floating keyboard is reported as sold separately. The launch material does not establish whether a stylus is included, which pen models are compatible or how accessories will be distributed outside China. Treat those as pre-purchase checks rather than assumptions.

USB-C DisplayPort video input

The Xiaomi tablet is reported to support DisplayPort video input over USB-C. That is different from the more common video output: input lets the tablet receive a signal and function as a secondary display for another device, subject to source compatibility, cables and supported modes. This feature could matter to a laptop user, camera operator or desktop owner who wants a portable monitor, but the cited evidence does not establish latency, supported resolutions or whether every USB-C accessory works.

No equivalent video-input feature is stated for the Galaxy Tab S12 Ultra in the cited Samsung specifications. Do not infer support simply because both devices use USB-C.

Storage, connectivity and durability

Internal versus expandable storage

Xiaomi is reported to offer configurations up to 1TB of internal storage and 16GB of RAM. The cited launch report does not establish a microSD slot. Samsung lists 12GB RAM configurations and microSD expansion up to 2TB. A Samsung buyer can therefore add removable storage for media and project files, while a Xiaomi buyer should choose enough internal capacity at purchase unless an official expansion option is confirmed for the exact model.

Wireless standards

Samsung lists Wi-Fi 7 for the Galaxy Tab S12 Ultra. The cited Xiaomi launch report does not provide a complete wireless specification, so it is not possible to declare a connectivity winner or assume cellular support. Check the exact regional model for Wi-Fi bands, mobile-radio options and certification.

Protection against water and dust

Samsung lists an IP68 rating for the S12 Ultra. That gives the Samsung model a published protection claim that is absent from the cited Xiaomi launch report. Xiaomi’s omission is not proof that the Pad 9 Pro Max lacks protection; it means you should not advertise or rely on a rating until Xiaomi publishes one for your market and model.

Price, availability and warranty: the most important regional issue

Xiaomi’s reported China price

Notebookcheck reported a starting Chinese price of CNY 4,799 for an 8GB/256GB Pad 9 Pro Max configuration. That is a China launch price, not a globally converted retail price. Import costs, taxes, shipping, reseller margins, charger compatibility and warranty limitations can change the amount a buyer actually pays.

The same launch report did not confirm international availability or pricing. Buyers outside China should not order based on the CNY figure alone. First verify that an official seller serves your country, that the software is appropriate for your region, and that warranty service is available locally.

Samsung’s market context

Samsung announced the Galaxy Tab S12 series on September 30, 2026, and its published comparison page is a U.S. product reference. The cited material does not provide a like-for-like current price for the S12 Ultra, so this article does not claim that either tablet is cheaper or better value. Compare the exact local storage tier, tax-inclusive price, included accessories and warranty rather than converting CNY directly into another currency.

Import checklist for the Xiaomi model

  1. Confirm the Pad 9 Pro Max is officially sold in your country, not merely listed by an unaffiliated importer.
  2. Ask who provides warranty repairs and where the device must be shipped for service.
  3. Verify the operating-system language, app-store access, update channel and regional account support.
  4. Check the supplied charger, plug type and electrical certification.
  5. Confirm that the advertised RAM/storage tier is the exact 8GB/256GB, 16GB/1TB or other configuration you intend to buy.
  6. Price the separately sold floating keyboard and any stylus before comparing the complete setup with Samsung.

Which tablet should you choose?

Choose the Xiaomi Pad 9 Pro Max if all of these conditions fit

  • You can confirm official or dependable local availability and acceptable warranty coverage.
  • You prefer the reported 13.3-inch 3:2 format for documents, coding, note-taking or split-screen work.
  • A 144Hz LCD, 120W charging or USB-C DisplayPort input is more useful to you than Samsung’s accessory and protection features.
  • You are comfortable buying the keyboard separately and verifying stylus support for your market.
  • You need up to 1TB internal storage and do not require a confirmed microSD slot.

This is a specification-based fit, not a claim that Xiaomi is faster, lasts longer or looks better in independent testing.

Choose the Galaxy Tab S12 Ultra if these priorities matter most

  • You want a large 14.6-inch Dynamic AMOLED 2X panel.
  • You want an S Pen included in the package.
  • You value a published IP68 rating and microSD expansion up to 2TB.
  • You prefer Samsung’s announced local product channel and listed Wi-Fi 7 support.
  • You want a documented accessory path through Book Cover Keyboard options.

Choose the Galaxy Tab S12+ when the Ultra is too large

The S12+ keeps you within Samsung’s new S12 family while reducing the screen to 12.6 inches. It is the logical option for buyers who want Samsung’s pen and accessory ecosystem but prioritize portability over the Ultra’s 14.6-inch workspace. The cited material does not provide the S12+’s complete specification or price, so check Samsung’s regional listing before making a final decision.

What the published specifications cannot answer

Neither product sheet resolves several questions that matter in daily use:

  • There is no independent, directly comparable benchmark between the Xring O3 tablet and Samsung’s 3nm platform.
  • There is no matched battery test using the same brightness, refresh rate, network conditions and workload.
  • There is no hands-on display assessment establishing which panel is more accurate, readable outdoors or comfortable for long sessions.
  • Xiaomi’s international software, update policy, warranty terms and final retail pricing remain unconfirmed in the cited launch reporting.
  • The cited Xiaomi material does not establish an IP rating, microSD slot, complete wireless specification or stylus inclusion.

These are reasons to verify a local listing and wait for independent testing, not reasons to assume the missing feature exists or does not exist.

A practical buying process

  1. Set your market. Identify the country where the tablet will be used and serviced. This is essential for the Xiaomi model because its reported launch was in China.
  2. Choose the screen size. Pick the 14.6-inch S12 Ultra for maximum workspace, the 13.3-inch Xiaomi for a taller 3:2 canvas, or the 12.6-inch S12+ for a smaller Samsung option.
  3. Price a complete kit. Add the Xiaomi keyboard and any required pen, or Samsung’s keyboard option if you need typing. Compare tax-inclusive totals at the same storage tier.
  4. Check expansion needs. Select Xiaomi’s internal capacity carefully if microSD is important; Samsung explicitly lists support up to 2TB.
  5. Match the feature to the job. Choose Xiaomi only if USB-C video input, 3:2 proportions, 144Hz or 120W charging has a concrete use for you. Choose Samsung if the S Pen, IP68 and removable storage reduce meaningful compromises.
  6. Confirm return and warranty terms. Especially for an imported Xiaomi unit, get the seller’s repair process in writing before payment.

Bottom line

The Galaxy Tab S12 Ultra is the more straightforward recommendation for buyers who can purchase it through Samsung’s local channel and want an AMOLED display, included S Pen, IP68 protection, Wi-Fi 7 and microSD expansion. The Xiaomi Pad 9 Pro Max is the more distinctive option on paper, with a 3:2 144Hz screen, reported USB-C video input, up to 16GB/1TB configurations and 120W charging—but its reported CNY 4,799 starting price and China launch cannot be treated as an international deal. Confirm availability, warranty and the full accessory cost before choosing Xiaomi, and do not claim a performance, endurance or value winner until comparable independent tests and local prices exist.

Product prices and availability are accurate as of the date/time indicated and are subject to change. Any price and availability information displayed on Amazon at the time of purchase will apply.
