IT之家 reports a crowdfunding price of 1,699 yuan, with silver and titanium finishes. The case’s headline features are a rivet-free frame process, mixed aluminum-alloy construction and wheels Xiaomi says are quieter and more durable than standard luggage casters.
What Xiaomi announced
The October 14, 2026 launch report describes the Mijia Metal Suitcase as a premium metal case planned for the Chinese market. The reported 1,699-yuan figure is a crowdfunding price, not a confirmed long-term retail price, and the campaign had not yet started when the listing was reported. Buyers outside China should therefore treat availability, shipping and warranty coverage as unresolved.

Two aluminum alloy series
According to the launch report, the case combines a 6-series aluminum-magnesium-silicon alloy frame with a 5-series aluminum-magnesium alloy shell. Xiaomi says manufacturing involves about 150 processes. The alloy grades indicate a metal-focused construction, but the report does not establish the suitcase’s final thickness, total weight, internal volume or impact rating.

Internal attachments instead of exposed rivets
The defining design change is the frame assembly. Xiaomi’s official Aluminum Frame Luggage page explains that traditional external riveted corner protectors are replaced with zinc-alloy components connected and fixed by internal attachments. This removes visible rivet heads from the corners while retaining separate protective hardware inside the frame structure.
The same official design language describes a 6000-series aluminum frame, dual TSA locks and caster wheels matched to precision bushings. Those specifications come from Xiaomi’s related aluminum-frame luggage materials; the launch report does not state whether every detail applies identically to this new Mijia Metal Suitcase.

Are the wheels really silent?
Xiaomi says it jointly developed the suitcase’s omnidirectional wheels with HINOMOTO. The reported design uses an independent metal shock-absorption structure inside each wheel. Xiaomi’s stated laboratory figures are:
- Less than 2 millimeters of wheel-skin wear after 72 kilometers.
- Noise below 43 decibels.
- Performance testing at six times the applicable national standard.
These are manufacturer-reported laboratory claims cited by IT之家, not results from an independent test report. “Below 43 decibels” also does not describe the test surface, speed, load, microphone distance or background-noise conditions, so it should not be interpreted as a universal noise level on every floor.

Xiaomi’s related 20-inch Metal Carry-on Luggage page describes highly elastic TPE wheels intended to reduce shock and noise, 360-degree movement, four-position handle adjustment and dual TSA-approved locks. The launch material does not confirm the new case’s wheel diameter, exact handle positions or whether its wheel compound is identical to that carry-on model.

What the design means for travelers
A rivet-free exterior could appeal to travelers who prefer a cleaner appearance and fewer exposed fasteners on corner guards. Internal attachments may also make the outer surfaces easier to wipe clean. However, the absence of visible rivets is not proof that the case is stronger, lighter or easier to repair; those conclusions require engineering data and long-term use evidence that Xiaomi has not published in the launch information.

The mixed alloy construction and metal shock-absorbing wheel hardware point toward a durability-focused product, but metal luggage can be heavier than comparable cases using lighter shell materials. Without published dimensions, empty weight and capacity, it is impossible to know whether the case meets a particular airline’s cabin or checked-baggage limits.

Price and buying guidance
- For the Chinese launch, watch the Mijia Metal Suitcase listing on Youpin when crowdfunding opens on October 21, 2026.
- Confirm whether 1,699 yuan is an early crowdfunding amount, a limited quota price or the standard selling price.
- Check the exact size, empty weight, capacity, lock certification and included warranty before paying.
- For purchases outside China, wait for an authorized local listing that identifies the same 2026 model. Verify model number, seller, return address, voltage-free accessories and warranty region; do not assume an imported Youpin unit has local support.
As of the launch report, there is no confirmed international release date or exact Amazon listing for this suitcase. Any marketplace page using the Mijia name should be checked against Xiaomi’s model details before purchase.

Bottom line for the launch
Xiaomi’s new Mijia Metal Suitcase is a China-first premium luggage launch built around a 6-series alloy frame, 5-series alloy shell and internally attached, rivet-free corner construction. The reported 1,699-yuan crowdfunding price and October 21, 2026 campaign are the clearest commercial details so far. Its wheel claims are promising but remain Xiaomi’s laboratory figures rather than independently verified silence or durability results, while size, weight, capacity and overseas availability are still unconfirmed.
