Xiaomi HyperOS phone-to-iPhone sync vs. Apple Continuity: what works across devices?

Short answer: a supported Xiaomi phone can exchange photos and files with an iPhone and, through Xiaomi’s Interconnectivity app, provide selected notification, hotspot, album and touch-to-share functions. That is not the same as Apple Continuity. Continuity is an Apple-native system covering handoff, shared clipboard, camera continuity, calls, messages, AirPlay and iPhone control, with requirements that vary by feature.

The practical choice depends on the task. Use Xiaomi’s tools for occasional cross-platform transfers or the specific functions your model supports. Choose an all-Apple setup when you need continuous handoff between apps, Universal Clipboard, iPhone Mirroring or the broader Continuity ecosystem.

What Xiaomi documents between a phone and iPhone

Photos and files with Xiaomi Share

Xiaomi’s global support FAQ says a compatible Xiaomi device upgraded to HyperOS 2 can transfer photos and files in both directions with Apple devices. The iPhone or other Apple device must have the Xiaomi Interconnectivity app installed and running. Bluetooth and Wi-Fi should be enabled on both devices, they should be on the same local-area network and close to one another, and the recipient confirms the incoming transfer.

This is an app-mediated exchange rather than a replacement for Apple’s system-level Continuity. It is useful when you need to move a camera photo, document or group of files without putting both devices in the same cloud account. The FAQ does not provide a universal transfer-speed figure, so network quality, file size and device conditions will determine how long a transfer takes. Follow the current instructions in Xiaomi’s Xiaomi Share FAQ.

Cross-device photo and file sharing in Interconnectivity

Xiaomi’s Interconnectivity page lists cross-device sharing of photos or files as a phone-to-iPhone capability. The page specifies an iPhone running iOS 14 or later, Xiaomi Interconnectivity app version 2.0.0 or later, Bluetooth enabled and the Xiaomi phone and iPhone connected to the same network or hotspot. These are baseline conditions for the documented feature family; Xiaomi still limits availability by model and software combination.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

Touch-to-share

Touch-to-share has stricter published requirements than ordinary file exchange. Xiaomi specifies an iPhone 12 or later with iOS 17 or later. The Xiaomi phone must also be a supported model with the required HyperOS and Interconnectivity components. If your iPhone is older than an iPhone 12 or remains below iOS 17, do not expect this particular gesture-based function even if regular Xiaomi Share works.

Notifications

Xiaomi lists notification synchronization among its phone-to-iPhone abilities, but the requirement is not one blanket version number. Its broader HyperConnect material identifies HyperOS 3 or later for some notification and touch-to-share scenarios and refers to particular companion-service or app versions for certain notification-sync directions. Check the feature row for your model and the current software before treating notification mirroring as guaranteed.

One-tap hotspot

One-tap hotspot is another listed Interconnectivity function. When your model and software support it, the companion connection can help an iPhone join the Xiaomi phone’s hotspot without the normal repeated setup. The published requirements still include Bluetooth, a supported app/software combination and the required network relationship; this is not a promise that every HyperOS phone exposes the same control.

Xiaomi cloud album

Xiaomi includes a cloud-album capability in its phone-to-iPhone feature list. The page does not define one universal album workflow or storage allowance for every region and model, so treat it as a documented option to verify in the Interconnectivity app rather than as an equivalent to Apple Photos synchronization.

Requirements by Xiaomi function

Function Published minimums or conditions Important qualification
General Interconnectivity features iPhone on iOS 14 or later; Xiaomi Interconnectivity app 2.0.0 or later; Bluetooth enabled; devices on the same network or hotspot. Availability varies by Xiaomi model, HyperOS release and feature.
Xiaomi Share photos/files Compatible Xiaomi device upgraded to HyperOS 2; Interconnectivity app installed and running on the Apple device; Bluetooth and Wi-Fi enabled; same local network; close proximity; recipient accepts. The requirement comes from Xiaomi’s global FAQ and applies to compatible devices, not every Xiaomi phone.
Touch-to-share iPhone 12 or later and iOS 17 or later, plus the supported Xiaomi software and app components. This is stricter than ordinary file sharing.
Some notification and touch-to-share scenarios Xiaomi’s HyperConnect information lists HyperOS 3 or later and particular companion-service versions for some combinations. Check the exact direction and model; do not generalize the threshold to every feature.
Apple-side software Install and run Xiaomi Interconnectivity on the iPhone or other Apple device. The app requirement is why these links are not the same as Apple’s built-in Continuity.

Xiaomi’s global HyperOS page also states that Apple devices should use iOS/iPadOS 14 or later or macOS 12 or later for cross-ecosystem features, with Interconnectivity app version 2.0.0 or later. Regional, model and feature support can differ; consult the global HyperOS information alongside the feature page.

How to transfer a photo or file from Xiaomi to iPhone

  1. Update and verify compatibility. Confirm that the Xiaomi phone is a compatible model running the required HyperOS release. HyperOS 2 is the published baseline for Xiaomi Share in Xiaomi’s global FAQ; newer functions may require HyperOS 3 or later.
  2. Install the companion app. On the iPhone, install Xiaomi Interconnectivity and update it to version 2.0.0 or later when the feature documentation requires that version. Open the app so it is running.
  3. Prepare the connection. Turn on Wi-Fi and Bluetooth on both devices. Join the Xiaomi phone and iPhone to the same local network, keep them close together and avoid switching one device to a different network during the transfer.
  4. Start Xiaomi Share. On the Xiaomi phone, choose the photos or files and use the phone’s Xiaomi Share flow. The nearby Apple device should appear when the app and wireless conditions are met.
  5. Accept on the iPhone. Select the iPhone as the recipient. The person using the iPhone must confirm receipt; Xiaomi’s FAQ describes recipient confirmation as part of the process.
  6. Check the destination. Open the location offered by the Interconnectivity app and verify that the files arrived before deleting the originals. For large batches, transfer in smaller groups if the app becomes unresponsive.

The documented process does not establish a guaranteed speed or maximum batch size. A failed transfer therefore should be diagnosed from the connection, app state and compatibility requirements rather than from an assumed performance rating.

How to prepare Xiaomi Interconnectivity features

  1. Identify the exact feature. Decide whether you need ordinary file sharing, touch-to-share, notifications, the cloud album or one-tap hotspot. Each has different minimums.
  2. Check both operating systems. Record the Xiaomi model and HyperOS version and the iPhone model and iOS version. For touch-to-share, the iPhone must be an iPhone 12 or newer on iOS 17 or newer. For the general feature page, Xiaomi specifies iOS 14 or later.
  3. Update the app and services. Install or update Xiaomi Interconnectivity to at least version 2.0.0 where required. Notification functions may depend on additional companion-service versions listed by Xiaomi.
  4. Enable wireless conditions. Turn on Bluetooth and Wi-Fi. Use the same local network or the documented hotspot arrangement, and keep both devices nearby.
  5. Grant the requested permissions. If iOS or HyperOS asks for local-network, Bluetooth, notification or photo access, allow the permissions required for the feature you selected. A denied permission can make a supported function appear unavailable.
  6. Test one simple action first. Send one small photo or trigger the selected connection before attempting a large transfer or relying on notification synchronization. This isolates setup problems from a feature-specific limitation.

What Apple Continuity actually provides

Apple describes Continuity as features built into Apple operating systems and many everyday apps. Apple’s setup guidance says there is no additional Continuity app to install: users generally sign in to the same Apple Account on each device, with Wi-Fi, Bluetooth and feature-specific requirements applying where needed.

Handoff and Universal Clipboard

Handoff lets a supported activity move between Apple devices, while Universal Clipboard makes copied text, images or other supported content available on nearby Apple devices. These are operating-system integrations, not simply a file-send screen. A Xiaomi phone paired with an iPhone is not listed as a participant in these Apple-native workflows.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

AirDrop and AirPlay

AirDrop handles nearby sharing among supported Apple devices. AirPlay sends or mirrors compatible content to Apple destinations. Xiaomi’s Interconnectivity documentation instead describes its own app-mediated sharing path; it does not claim that a Xiaomi phone becomes an AirDrop or AirPlay peer.

Continuity Camera and Sidecar

Continuity Camera uses an iPhone as a camera or microphone for a supported Mac workflow. Sidecar extends or mirrors a Mac display to a supported iPad. Both depend on Apple hardware and feature-specific operating-system requirements, so they should not be inferred from Xiaomi’s photo-transfer support.

Calls and text forwarding

Apple documents call relay and text forwarding as Continuity functions with their own device, account and carrier conditions. A Xiaomi phone cannot be assumed to join those Apple relay features simply because an iPhone can exchange a file with it.

iPhone Mirroring

Apple lists iPhone Mirroring for iOS 18 or later and macOS Sequoia 15 or later on supported Macs. Apple’s requirements page also notes that iPhone Mirroring is currently unavailable in the European Union. This is remote control and viewing of an iPhone from a Mac, not a Xiaomi-to-iPhone synchronization feature.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

Because Apple publishes separate requirements for Handoff, Continuity Camera, Sidecar, calls, text forwarding and other functions, no single device-and-version checklist proves that every Continuity feature will work. Use Apple’s Continuity requirements for the specific feature you want.

Direct comparison: app-mediated links versus system continuity

Comparison point Xiaomi phone plus iPhone Apple devices using Continuity
Primary mechanism Xiaomi Interconnectivity app and Xiaomi Share. Built-in Apple operating-system and app services.
Account setup The documented Xiaomi functions emphasize app installation, Bluetooth and network proximity; the pages do not describe one universal shared-account requirement. Apple says users get started by signing in to the same Apple Account, with feature-specific conditions.
Network dependence Same local network or hotspot is specified for several functions; Bluetooth and proximity are also required in Xiaomi’s Share instructions. Wi-Fi and Bluetooth may be required depending on the Continuity feature.
Cross-platform reach Selected transfers and controls between a Xiaomi phone and iPhone. Primarily Apple-to-Apple workflows spanning iPhone, iPad and Mac.
Version complexity Different thresholds: iOS 14 for the general feature page, HyperOS 2 for Xiaomi Share, iPhone 12/iOS 17 for touch-to-share and HyperOS 3 or service-version requirements for some newer functions. Each feature has its own hardware and OS matrix; iPhone Mirroring, for example, uses iOS 18 and macOS Sequoia 15.
Regional limits Xiaomi warns that model and feature availability differ; verify your market. Apple specifically notes that iPhone Mirroring is currently unavailable in the European Union.

Troubleshooting when Xiaomi and iPhone do not connect

The iPhone does not appear

  • Confirm Xiaomi Interconnectivity is installed, updated and open on the iPhone.
  • Turn on Bluetooth and Wi-Fi on both devices.
  • Move both devices close together and connect them to the same local network rather than separate guest networks.
  • Check that the Xiaomi phone meets the HyperOS requirement for the feature you selected.
  • Restart the app and retry with one small photo. If that works, the original batch or file type may be the problem.

File transfer starts but fails

  • Keep both screens available and do not leave the local network during transfer.
  • Ask the recipient to accept the prompt; Xiaomi’s documented flow requires confirmation.
  • Send fewer files at once and verify free storage on the iPhone.
  • Update the app and operating systems before trying again. Xiaomi does not publish a universal speed or batch-size guarantee, so avoid diagnosing a failure against an assumed limit.

Touch-to-share is missing

  • Check the iPhone model: Xiaomi specifies iPhone 12 or later.
  • Check iOS: Xiaomi specifies iOS 17 or later for touch-to-share.
  • Confirm that the Xiaomi model, HyperOS release and companion services are listed as supported. Ordinary Xiaomi Share support does not automatically imply touch-to-share support.

Notifications or hotspot controls are unavailable

  • Read the exact feature entry rather than applying the general iOS 14 rule. Some notification and touch-to-share combinations require HyperOS 3 or later and particular service versions.
  • Review notification, Bluetooth, local-network and hotspot permissions on both devices.
  • Check regional and model availability on Xiaomi’s current HyperOS pages; the company does not promise identical functions across all phones.

Which setup should you choose?

Choose Xiaomi Interconnectivity when

  • You own a supported Xiaomi phone and an iPhone and mainly need two-way photos or file transfers.
  • You are comfortable installing and maintaining a companion app on the iPhone.
  • Your priority is a specific documented function such as one-tap hotspot, notification synchronization or touch-to-share, and your exact versions meet its requirements.

Choose an Apple-only Continuity setup when

  • You need Handoff, Universal Clipboard, Continuity Camera, Sidecar, Apple call/text relay or iPhone Mirroring.
  • You want these features integrated into Apple operating systems and apps without a third-party companion app.
  • Your devices meet Apple’s feature-by-feature hardware, software and regional requirements.

When both ecosystems are in the household

Use the Xiaomi app for the concrete cross-platform tasks it documents, and keep expectations narrow: successful file exchange does not unlock Apple’s entire Continuity stack. Before buying or changing a phone, write down the exact jobs you need, then match each job to the relevant Xiaomi or Apple requirement page. This avoids treating a general compatibility statement as a guarantee for every model, region or operating-system release.

Bottom line

Xiaomi HyperOS can connect to an iPhone for selected, useful tasks—especially two-way photo and file transfer through Xiaomi Share, plus certain notifications, hotspot, album and touch-to-share functions. Those links depend on the Interconnectivity app, wireless conditions and feature-specific versions. Apple Continuity is broader but is designed around supported Apple hardware, operating systems and a shared Apple Account. If you need occasional cross-platform sharing, verify Xiaomi’s exact requirements; if you need seamless handoff, clipboard, camera, calls or iPhone control, only the Apple Continuity feature matrix answers that question.
