Choose the sensor that matches the hub and app you already use. Aqara’s Door and Window Sensor (MCCGQ11LM) is a documented Zigbee device that requires an Aqara hub. Xiaomi Door and Window Sensor 3 is reported as a Bluetooth device whose remote status, history and notifications depend on a Bluetooth Mesh gateway. Sensor 3 may be the better fit for Xiaomi Home users who want opening counts and open-duration records, while Aqara is the lower-uncertainty choice for an existing Aqara setup.
The short answer
These sensors are not interchangeable simply because both detect whether a door or window is open. Their radio protocols, gateways and app ecosystems differ. If you already have an Aqara hub, the Aqara Door and Window Sensor is the straightforward choice. If your home is built around Xiaomi Home and you can obtain a compatible Bluetooth Mesh gateway, Sensor 3 is worth considering for its reported event history, daily opening counts and records of how long an opening remained open or closed.

Do not make the decision from the advertised battery numbers alone. Xiaomi’s “up to three years” claim and Aqara’s advertised two years come from different documentation and are not results from a matched test. Sensor 3 was reported in a China crowdfunding campaign in October 2026, so international availability, final pricing outside China and some physical specifications remain unverified.

Sensor 3 is a new, separately reported product
The comparison here concerns Xiaomi Door and Window Sensor 3, not the older product called Mi Window and Door Sensor. The legacy Xiaomi page specifies Zigbee, a CR1632 battery and a Zigbee gateway requirement. Those details must not be transferred to Sensor 3. Current reporting on Sensor 3 describes a Bluetooth device and a CR2032 battery instead.

The distinction matters when you search for replacement batteries, pairing instructions or a gateway. A listing that says “Mi Window and Door Sensor” may describe the older Zigbee model even if a seller uses “Xiaomi door sensor” as a generic title. Verify the model name and generation on the box and in the app before buying accessories.
What is known about Sensor 3’s launch
Gizmochina reported on October 12, 2026 that Door and Window Sensor 3 entered crowdfunding on Xiaomi Youpin in China. The reported campaign price was 44 yuan, with a planned retail price of 49 yuan, and the campaign was scheduled to run through October 19. Those figures describe a time-limited Chinese campaign, not a current worldwide price. International retail availability and an Amazon listing were not verified in the available reporting.
Xiaomi’s currently surfaced official product page is for the older Mi Window and Door Sensor, not Sensor 3: Xiaomi Mi Window and Door Sensor. Treat any page that copies its Zigbee or CR1632 specifications as information about that legacy model unless it explicitly identifies Sensor 3.
Protocol and hub requirements decide compatibility
| Sensor | Radio and gateway | Primary app or platform information |
|---|---|---|
| Xiaomi Door and Window Sensor 3 | Current reporting describes Bluetooth. A Bluetooth Mesh gateway is required for remote access, event history and notifications. | Xiaomi Home is reported as the app; confirm gateway model and regional support before purchase. |
| Aqara Door and Window Sensor (MCCGQ11LM) | Official specification lists Zigbee. Aqara states that an Aqara hub is required. | Aqara Home and Apple Home app support are listed in Aqara’s specifications. |
A Bluetooth or Zigbee label does not tell you whether a particular hub will accept the sensor. Pairing is controlled by the device’s firmware, gateway compatibility and regional software support. An Aqara hub should not be assumed to pair with Sensor 3, and a Xiaomi Bluetooth Mesh gateway should not be assumed to pair with the Aqara Zigbee model.
Aqara’s product page gives the clearest requirement in its own words: “An Aqara hub is required.” Read the current Aqara Door and Window Sensor product page and official specifications for the model sold in your market. For Sensor 3, check the gateway name shown by the local Xiaomi Home app or retailer; the available launch report does not establish a universal gateway model or international compatibility list.

Feature comparison
| Decision point | Xiaomi Door and Window Sensor 3 | Aqara Door and Window Sensor MCCGQ11LM |
|---|---|---|
| Open/closed detection | Reported | Documented |
| Event history | Reported in Xiaomi Home | Equivalent history is not stated in the reviewed specifications |
| Daily opening count | Reported | Not stated in the reviewed product material |
| Time open or closed | Reported duration records | Not stated in the reviewed product material |
| Alerts and automations | Remote notifications depend on the reported Bluetooth Mesh gateway | Product material describes alerts and automation through the Aqara setup |
| Battery cell | CR2032, according to the launch report | CR1632, according to Aqara’s official specification |
| Advertised battery life | Up to three years; vendor claim reported by Gizmochina | Two years; Aqara product-page claim |
| Published dimensions | Not stated in the reviewed Sensor 3 reporting | 41 × 22 × 11 mm |
| Maximum detection distance | Not stated in the reviewed Sensor 3 reporting | 22 mm |
The feature difference is most meaningful if you want to study usage rather than receive a simple state change. Sensor 3 is reported to count daily openings and record how long the door or window stays open or closed. That could help you notice a frequently opened entry, check whether a window was left open, or build routines around usage patterns. The report does not provide an independent test of the accuracy or retention period of those records.
Aqara’s documented feature set centers on open/closed detection, alerts and automations. Its reviewed specifications do not document equivalent opening counts or duration history, so do not buy it expecting those particular analytics unless your app version explicitly offers them.
Battery claims: useful estimates, not a fair head-to-head test
Xiaomi Sensor 3
The October 12, 2026 launch report identifies a CR2032 cell and says Sensor 3 can last up to three years. “Up to” is a manufacturer claim reported during the crowdfunding launch, not an independently measured runtime. Actual life will depend on event frequency, Bluetooth communication, gateway distance, temperature and notification activity.
Aqara MCCGQ11LM
Aqara’s product material advertises two years, while the official specification lists a CR1632 battery. This is also an estimate rather than a controlled comparison with Sensor 3. The smaller CR1632 designation is not interchangeable with CR2032 merely because both are coin cells; use the exact type printed for your sensor.
Do not import the legacy Xiaomi figure
The older Mi Window and Door Sensor page claims two years with a CR1632 under Aqara Laboratory testing that simulated 20 open/close cycles per day at 25°C. That test describes the legacy Xiaomi Zigbee model, not Sensor 3, and cannot be used to calculate Sensor 3’s runtime.

Aqara’s published geometry
Aqara lists a 41 × 22 × 11 mm body and a maximum detection distance of 22 mm. Measure the closed gap between the frame and the moving door or window, including any trim, weather stripping or uneven surface. The sensor and magnet need to align within that published limit when closed; a larger gap can produce missed state changes.
Sensor 3 geometry is not yet established
Sensor 3 is described as compact in current reporting, but the reviewed material does not provide verified dimensions or a maximum magnet gap. Do not infer that it will fit the same narrow frame or tolerate the same gap as Aqara. Wait for the local listing or manual to state the measurements, then compare them with your installation site.
Before you attach either sensor
- Close the door or window and measure the available flat mounting area on both the frame and moving panel.
- Check that the two pieces can sit parallel and remain aligned through the full movement.
- Confirm that the closed gap is within the manufacturer’s stated limit; for Aqara, that limit is 22 mm.
- Pair the sensor and test open, closed and partially latched positions before applying permanent adhesive.
- Keep the battery cover accessible so a future cell replacement does not require removing a firmly mounted body.
Which sensor suits your setup?
Choose Aqara when you already own an Aqara hub
Aqara is the lower-uncertainty option for a household already using the documented Aqara ecosystem. The required hub, Zigbee protocol, Aqara Home support and Apple Home app support are stated by Aqara. You still need to check the exact regional model and current platform support, but you are not adding an unverified gateway dependency.
Choose Sensor 3 when Xiaomi Home analytics matter
Sensor 3 may suit you if Xiaomi Home is already your preferred app and you specifically want reported daily opening counts, event history and open/closed duration. Confirm that the required Bluetooth Mesh gateway is available where you live and that the local Xiaomi Home app exposes those functions for the exact model before paying.

Choose by physical constraints, not by the word “compact”
If your frame is unusually narrow or the magnet must bridge a wide gap, Aqara has the advantage of published dimensions and a 22 mm maximum detection distance. Sensor 3’s comparable measurements were not provided in the reviewed launch reporting, so its suitability cannot be confirmed from the product name alone.
Do not choose primarily on advertised years
The three-year Sensor 3 figure and two-year Aqara figure use different claims and conditions. They do not show that Sensor 3 will last exactly one year longer in your home. Frequent openings, weak gateway coverage and temperature can reduce either estimate.
Availability and buying checks
Sensor 3’s reported availability is the biggest practical uncertainty. The launch information covers a Xiaomi Youpin crowdfunding campaign in China running through October 19, 2026. The reported 44-yuan campaign price and 49-yuan planned retail price are tied to that market and period. They should not be presented as current international prices, and no verified international retail or Amazon inventory was established.
Aqara maintains product and specification pages, but local stock and package contents vary. Before ordering, verify all of the following:
Quick wins for a faster PC:
Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitchesFind Drivers →Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errorsFree Scan →- The exact model identifier is MCCGQ11LM for the Aqara product, or explicitly Door and Window Sensor 3 for Xiaomi.
- The seller states the radio protocol and required gateway for that exact generation.
- Your country’s app region can add the device and deliver notifications.
- The package includes the correct mounting hardware and the battery type you expect.
- The return policy covers a device that cannot join your existing hub.
Do not buy the older Xiaomi Zigbee sensor expecting Sensor 3’s event-count features, and do not buy Sensor 3 assuming a legacy Xiaomi Zigbee gateway will operate it.

Practical setup checklists
For an Aqara installation
- Confirm that your hub supports the Door and Window Sensor model sold in your region.
- Install or open Aqara Home and add the sensor through the hub’s accessory-adding flow.
- Insert the specified CR1632 cell, observing polarity and the device’s battery instructions.
- Pair the sensor near the hub before mounting it at the final location.
- Place the body and magnet so the closed gap stays within 22 mm and the marks remain aligned.
- Open and close the door or window several times, then verify state changes, alerts and any automation you created.
- If you use Apple Home, confirm that the accessory appears there after the Aqara integration is complete.
For a Xiaomi Sensor 3 installation
- Verify that the package is Sensor 3 rather than the older Mi Window and Door Sensor.
- Confirm the local Xiaomi Home region supports the model and identify the Bluetooth Mesh gateway required for remote functions.
- Install the reported CR2032 cell according to the device markings.
- Pair the sensor close to the gateway, then move it to the intended frame and test coverage.
- Check that Xiaomi Home shows open and closed states, event history and the reported count or duration features before permanent mounting.
- Measure the installation gap and follow the final model’s manual; a verified Sensor 3 maximum gap was not available in the launch reporting.
- Test notifications with the gateway connected to the internet, then test again with the door or window closed and reopened.
Troubleshooting common failures
The sensor pairs but remote notifications do not arrive
For Sensor 3, first check the Bluetooth Mesh gateway connection and whether the Xiaomi Home region enables remote notifications for the model. A phone-only Bluetooth connection may show local status without providing remote access. For Aqara, confirm that the sensor is joined to the Aqara hub rather than merely detected during a nearby scan, then check notification permissions in Aqara Home and your phone’s operating system.
The app shows the wrong state
Check alignment and gap before resetting software. A magnet that shifts when the door closes, a frame that flexes, or a gap beyond the model’s limit can create intermittent readings. Aqara’s published maximum is 22 mm; Sensor 3’s comparable value is not established in the reviewed report. Re-pair only after the physical installation is stable.
The sensor will not join the hub
Confirm the protocol and generation. Aqara MCCGQ11LM is Zigbee and requires an Aqara hub. Sensor 3 is reported as Bluetooth and requires a Bluetooth Mesh gateway for its remote functions. The older Xiaomi Mi Window and Door Sensor is a different Zigbee product. A reset cannot make a Zigbee accessory become a Bluetooth accessory or make one brand’s gateway support an unlisted model.

Check that the correct cell is installed: CR2032 for the reported Sensor 3 specification and CR1632 for Aqara MCCGQ11LM. Inspect for repeated open/close events, poor gateway coverage and extreme temperatures. The published “up to” and “two-year” numbers are estimates, not guarantees, and the legacy Xiaomi laboratory figure used conditions that may not match your home.
Decision table
| Your situation | Better starting point | Reason |
|---|---|---|
| You already have an Aqara hub and want a documented accessory | Aqara Door and Window Sensor | Zigbee operation, required Aqara hub and listed Aqara Home/Apple Home support are documented. |
| You use Xiaomi Home and want opening counts or duration records | Xiaomi Door and Window Sensor 3, if locally supported | Those analytics are reported for Sensor 3, subject to Bluetooth Mesh gateway and regional availability. |
| Your installation has a tight frame or known wide gap | Aqara, when its measurements fit | Aqara publishes 41 × 22 × 11 mm dimensions and a 22 mm maximum detection distance. |
| You are deciding only from battery-life numbers | Neither has a proven advantage | The figures are vendor claims from different documentation, with no matched independent test. |
| You need a product immediately outside China | Check Aqara stock first | Sensor 3’s reported campaign was in China; international availability was not verified. |
Bottom line for each buyer
Existing Aqara household
Buy the Aqara sensor after confirming the local MCCGQ11LM package and hub compatibility. It minimizes ecosystem uncertainty and gives you published physical limits for installation.
Xiaomi Home household
Consider Sensor 3 only after verifying a compatible Bluetooth Mesh gateway, regional Xiaomi Home support and a legitimate local listing. Its reported history and duration features are the reason to choose it, not an unproven assumption that every Xiaomi gateway will work.
Mixed-brand or first-time setup
Pick the ecosystem you intend to keep using, then buy the sensor designed for that hub. These are ecosystem accessories rather than universal contact sensors, so adding a second brand can cost more than the sensor itself once a new gateway is required.
For current product details, consult Aqara’s official specifications, its product page, and the October 12, 2026 Sensor 3 launch report. Use the launch information as a market-and-date snapshot, and verify the exact model, gateway and battery before ordering.
