The Xiaomi 18 Pro and Pro Max are expected to go global, but Xiaomi has not named the markets, launch date or global prices. Until your country has an official listing, there is no reliable way to sort alternatives into local budget tiers—or to assume the Xiaomi will be available to buy there. For now, the strongest documented premium alternatives are Samsung’s Galaxy S26 Ultra for Android buyers and Apple’s iPhone 18 Pro for those open to iOS.
What is known about the Xiaomi 18 Pro—and what is not
A September 2026 hands-on report describes the Xiaomi 18 Pro and Pro Max as flagships with rear displays and a Smart Privacy Display feature. The reporter could not unlock the demo phone to test Smart Privacy Display, so treat it as a reported feature, not a verified measure of privacy or viewing performance. The report gives the Pro a 6.4-inch display and the Pro Max a 6.9-inch display; do not assume the larger model shares every specification with the smaller one.

The same report lists a triple rear-camera setup with 200MP main and telephoto cameras and a 50MP ultra-wide, and Chinese starting prices of ¥5,999 for the Pro and ¥6,999 for the Pro Max. Those are China prices, not global launch prices or estimates of what either model will cost in another currency. TechRadar’s Xiaomi 18 Pro hands-on report covers the reported hardware and China pricing.
Xiaomi founder and CEO Lei Jun was reported as saying, “Our global users have been asking for this, and it’s coming.” The company account was also reported as saying, “Xiaomi 18 Pro Series is going global this year.” Neither statement identifies a country or release date. Check Xiaomi’s local product pages and authorized retailers before treating the phone as a purchase option in your market. The report on Xiaomi’s global-release statements describes the announcement and its limits.

Best premium alternatives to consider now
These two phones make the clearest documented comparison, but they are not direct substitutes in every respect. Choose by operating system, size, camera needs and local price—not by comparing megapixel counts alone.
| Phone | Platform | Camera details in the cited comparison | Availability and price context | Best fit |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Samsung Galaxy S26 Ultra | Android | 200MP main camera; 3× and 5× telephoto cameras | Reported globally available as of TechRadar’s October 2026 comparison; country and retailer stock vary. Local price: check your market. | Someone who wants Android and multiple telephoto focal lengths to compare with the Xiaomi’s reported camera setup. |
| Apple iPhone 18 Pro | iOS | 48MP main camera with variable aperture; 48MP 4× optical telephoto | Apple announced a US starting price of $1,199. Availability began September 18, 2026, in first-wave markets, with 20 additional countries and regions beginning September 25. These are US pricing and Apple’s stated launch dates, not universal terms. | Someone willing to switch to iOS, especially if Apple’s ecosystem and local feature availability suit them. |
The camera specifications above are comparison context, not a verdict on image quality. Megapixels do not establish which phone takes better photos or video; focal-length coverage, processing, motion, low-light results and the way you shoot also matter. The comparison does not establish directly comparable battery-life or performance test results. TechRadar’s iPhone 18 Pro versus Galaxy S26 Ultra comparison lists the cited camera specifications and availability context.

Samsung Galaxy S26 Ultra: stay on Android
The Galaxy S26 Ultra is the more natural shortlist pick if you want to remain on Android. Its cited camera specification includes two telephoto cameras at 3× and 5×, while the Xiaomi report describes a 200MP telephoto without establishing directly comparable focal-length coverage. Compare sample photos, video needs, phone size, software experience and your local price before deciding; the available specifications alone do not settle camera quality.
Apple iPhone 18 Pro: consider iOS
The iPhone 18 Pro is a premium alternative only if iOS is acceptable to you. Apple’s stated US launch price and rollout dates apply to the United States and its named launch waves, not every market. Before buying, check the local Apple listing for price, availability and any regional feature limitations, then weigh the cost and disruption of changing ecosystems.

Can you choose a reliable alternative by budget?
Not from the available price and availability information. The evidence establishes China starting prices for the Xiaomi 18 Pro models and Apple’s US starting price for the iPhone 18 Pro, but not a set of current local prices for competing phones across budget tiers. Assigning “best under” amounts or naming a budget winner without a country and current local listings would be misleading.
Start with your country, currency and maximum spend, then compare models actually sold there. If the Xiaomi 18 Pro has no official local listing, do not convert its China price and treat the result as a local estimate. Also check whether the version sold locally has the bands, warranty and software features you need.

How to shortlist phones without overpaying
- Confirm local availability. Look for an official manufacturer listing or an authorized local retailer. For the Xiaomi 18 Pro series, wait for Xiaomi to identify your market and publish local details.
- Set a real local budget. Compare the checkout price in your currency, including taxes, carrier conditions and trade-in requirements where relevant. Do not rank phones using prices from different regions.
- Choose the operating system first. If you rely on Android apps, services or accessories, compare Android options such as the Galaxy S26 Ultra. If you are open to iOS, assess whether the iPhone’s ecosystem and regional features fit your routine.
- Match camera coverage to how you shoot. Compare the focal lengths and camera behavior you need—such as portraits, distant subjects, ultra-wide scenes or video—rather than using megapixels as a quality score.
- Check size and privacy features in person if possible. The Xiaomi report distinguishes a 6.4-inch Pro from a 6.9-inch Pro Max, and describes a rear display and Smart Privacy Display. Those features do not establish that the two models feel alike or that the privacy feature performs as intended.
- Verify the exact regional model. Before paying, confirm warranty coverage, software support, network compatibility and retailer return terms for the specific variant.
Is another Xiaomi worth considering?
The comparison report identifies the Xiaomi 17 Ultra as available in the UK and Europe, and—unlike the Oppo Find X9 Ultra—Australia. It also says the Xiaomi 17 Pro models were China-only. That makes the 17 Ultra a possible Xiaomi-family option in those regions, not a guaranteed current buy: check present stock, local price and the exact regional model before shortlisting it.
The same October 2026 comparison provides that regional context. Availability and retailer inventory can change, so the cited coverage should not replace a current local check.
