Its main compromises are no wireless charging, a 67W wired ceiling, a plastic frame, and a camera system that reviewers generally place below top camera flagships. Reviewers describe it as quick and capable in day-to-day use, though its UK price of £649 is a 2026 review figure and may not match your market.

Camera: the 5x periscope is the reason to look at this phone
The 17T’s clearest hardware difference is its 50MP periscope telephoto lens, which Xiaomi lists at 115mm equivalent with optical image stabilisation. Most phones in this price range stop at 2x or 3x optical-quality reach, so the 5x lens is the feature that separates the 17T on paper. Xiaomi markets the camera system under its Leica branding and lists 4K HDR10+ video modes for the rear cameras.
What reviewers saw at 5x and beyond
TechRadar’s reviewer found photos sharp and vivid and described 5x results as good, while noting some loss of clarity compared with the main camera. Tech Advisor called the telephoto an important upgrade and said 10x shots looked nearly flawless to that reviewer, with results usable at 20x. Both are subjective impressions of specific scenes and settings, not standardised lab measurements, and results will vary with lighting and how steady you hold the phone.

Where the camera falls short
Reviewer judgments on overall camera quality are mixed. The 17T is positioned as a capable camera phone rather than a best-in-class one, so if your priority is the strongest possible low-light or main-sensor image, compare it directly with top flagships before buying.
Battery life and charging
The 6500mAh rating is among the largest capacities in this class, and reviewers’ endurance results were consistently strong. However, the three results below were produced under different conditions, so they should not be read as comparable figures or as a guaranteed runtime.
| Source | Test or usage | Reported result |
|---|---|---|
| Tech Advisor, 2026 | PCMark battery drain test | 15 hours 30 minutes |
| Tech Advisor, 2026 | Reviewer’s personal use | An easy day; reaching lunchtime on day two was common |
| TechRadar, 2026 | Reviewer’s own mixed use | Over three days |
Charging is 67W wired, which is quick, but there is no wireless charging. If you rely on a Qi pad or a wireless car mount, this phone will not fit that routine.

Performance and display
The 6.59-inch 120Hz AMOLED panel and Dimensity 8500 Ultra with 12GB RAM handle everyday tasks responsively. TechRadar’s reviewer found it fast for varied work, including streaming and gaming, and said it stayed cool during their testing. Tech Advisor also found daily use responsive but reported that a demanding game needed the 30fps smooth preset to run to that reviewer’s preferred standard. Treat these as observations from two reviewers’ workloads rather than a benchmark for every game.
Build, durability and what is in the box
Tech Advisor reports a plastic frame, Gorilla Glass 7i on the display, and a basic pre-applied screen protector. The reviewed unit came with a matte black TPU case. The frame is the main build-quality trade-off against premium competitors that use metal or glass frames.
The IP68 rating needs careful reading. Xiaomi India’s product page states that resistance applies under specified laboratory conditions: static freshwater submersion up to 1.5 metres for up to 30 minutes. The same page warns that normal wear, damage or repairs can reduce that resistance over time, and it advises against beach use.

Price and availability
TechRadar’s 2026 review lists a UK starting price of £649, and Tech Advisor gives the same figure in its June 2026 pricing context. That is the only price confirmed in these reviews. We did not establish a current price in other countries, stock levels, or the regional launch status, so check a local retailer or Xiaomi’s official site for your market before buying. Software update duration is also not confirmed in the sources, so ask the seller or Xiaomi about the update policy if long-term support matters to you.

TechRadar names the Xiaomi 15T and the Xiaomi 17T Pro as alternatives and also mentions the Honor 600 in its review. Tech Advisor positions the 17T as the smaller option next to the Pro, and says the higher price of the Pro adds competition for buyers in this range.

Who should buy the Xiaomi 17T
The 17T suits buyers who want these things:
- A 5x optical telephoto lens in a phone below flagship pricing.
- Long rated battery capacity, with reviewers reporting strong endurance.
- A smooth 120Hz display and responsive everyday performance.
Look elsewhere if you need any of these:
- Wireless charging.
- A metal or glass frame, or a premium build feel.
- The strongest camera results across all lighting conditions.
- The lowest possible price in your market.
If the 5x telephoto and battery endurance are your top priorities and you can accept a plastic frame and wired-only charging, the Xiaomi 17T is a practical choice. If you want the best camera or a premium build, compare it with the Xiaomi 17T Pro or another phone from the alternatives named above.
