The cited reviews list the same chipset, so the choice is less about a processor advantage and more about size, battery capacity, camera setup, and the price for your exact configuration. The published UK price references for the POCO conflict, so they do not support a reliable price-difference calculation.

Which phone is better for size and display?
Choose Xiaomi 17 for a more compact phone
At 191g and 151.1 × 71.8mm, the Xiaomi 17 is considerably shorter, narrower, and lighter than the POCO. Its 6.3-inch display is the more manageable choice if one-handed handling and pocketability matter more than screen size.
Choose POCO F9 Ultra for a larger screen
The POCO’s 6.9-inch display gives you more viewing area, but the phone is also 235g and wider at 77.9mm. Its stated 185Hz maximum refresh rate applies only in compatible games; TechRadar describes 120Hz as the ordinary scenario. Treat 185Hz as a gaming-specific capability, not a setting you should expect to use everywhere.

Performance, memory, and storage
Both cited reviews list the Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5, so these sources do not establish a chipset-based performance advantage for either model. The POCO offers more configuration choice: up to 16GB of RAM and 1TB of storage, compared with the Xiaomi 17’s 12GB RAM and maximum 512GB storage in the cited review.
POCO’s launch approach is not simply a move to a newer processor generation. In its 1 September 2026 launch report, TechRadar said the F9 Ultra uses the same chipset as the F8 Ultra and attributed the decision to memory-cost pressure and POCO’s view that performance involves more than choosing the newest chipset. That context does not establish how the two phones perform in a controlled head-to-head test.

Battery life and charging
The POCO has the larger listed battery: 8,050mAh versus 6,330mAh for the Xiaomi 17. TechRadar’s reviewers reported multi-day use for the POCO and well over a day for the Xiaomi, but those are separate review experiences, not results from a controlled comparison under identical use. Battery capacity alone does not guarantee a particular runtime for every user.

Both reviews list 100W wired and 50W wireless charging. The POCO review says the UK box does not include a charger and describes testing with a separate 100W charger; that packaging observation applies to the reviewed UK version, not necessarily every region. Check local box contents and charger compatibility before buying an accessory.

Camera differences: focal length matters more than megapixels
The Xiaomi 17 pairs three 50MP rear cameras with a 2.6× telephoto camera and reported Leica color tuning. The POCO combines a 200MP main camera with a 50MP ultrawide and a 50MP 5× telephoto. These are different camera approaches: the POCO’s listed telephoto reaches a longer optical framing, while the Xiaomi’s cited telephoto is 2.6×.
The megapixel counts do not establish which phone takes better photos. For a decision, compare sample images from the camera you use most—especially portraits, indoor scenes, ultrawide shots, and zoom—rather than treating the higher main-camera resolution as a quality verdict. The cited reviews do not provide a controlled comparison that identifies an overall camera winner.

Software and update support
Both reviews list HyperOS 3 based on Android 16. TechRadar’s POCO review specifies four Android version updates and six years of security patches. The cited Xiaomi review does not state an equivalent support duration, so the available information cannot establish which phone will receive longer support.

There is no dependable price difference to calculate from the cited review pages. TechRadar’s Xiaomi 17 review, published 10 April 2026, lists UK prices of £899 for 256GB and £999 for 512GB, and says the phone was not available in the US at that review time. The POCO review gives conflicting UK base-price references—£899 in its overview and £749 in its price-and-availability section—and also cites $799. These are dated review references, not current quotes.

Before comparing what you would pay, check both phones in the same market and on the same date. Match storage tier, seller status, taxes, and any included accessories; also verify local availability, since a review’s regional price or availability note may not apply to your market.
Quick Recap
Which one should you buy?
- Pick the Xiaomi 17 if a smaller, lighter handset is your priority and 256GB or 512GB of storage is sufficient.
- Pick the POCO F9 Ultra if you prefer a 6.9-inch display, want the larger listed battery, or need its 16GB RAM or 1TB storage configuration.
- Compare camera samples before choosing if photography is the deciding factor; the listed specifications alone do not establish an overall winner.
- Compare local live prices, not review-date figures if cost is decisive, because the POCO review’s UK references conflict and the Xiaomi figures are from April 2026.
Product prices and availability are accurate as of the date/time indicated and are subject to change. Any price and availability information displayed on Amazon at the time of purchase will apply.
