If your choice is between Xiaomi’s camera-focused Xiaomi 17 Ultra and Samsung’s top 2026 flagship, the Galaxy S26 Ultra, decide by the features you will actually use: Xiaomi publishes a 1-inch main camera sensor and a 200MP telephoto covering 75–100mm equivalent, while Samsung’s standout documented extra is a built-in Privacy Display. Those specifications do not prove which phone takes better photos or lasts longer in everyday use. Check local pricing, availability, software support and regional variants before buying.
Which Samsung Galaxy S model is the right comparison?
“Samsung Galaxy S-series” covers more than one phone. Samsung’s 2026 lineup includes the Galaxy S26, S26+ and S26 Ultra; the Ultra is the appropriate flagship-to-flagship comparator here, particularly for buyers weighing camera hardware and premium features. The smaller S26 or S26+ may suit readers who prefer a different size or price tier, but they are not interchangeable with the Ultra in this comparison. Samsung’s UK S-series buying guide identifies the three models; its market-specific details should not be assumed to apply elsewhere.

How do their camera systems differ?
The manufacturers publish distinct hardware configurations. Xiaomi specifies a 50MP main sensor measuring 1 inch, a 200MP telephoto covering 75–100mm equivalent focal lengths, and a 50MP ultra-wide with a 14mm equivalent focal length. Samsung lists a 200MP main camera, a 50MP ultra-wide, a 50MP 5x optical telephoto, and a 10MP 3x optical telephoto. See the Xiaomi 17 Ultra specifications and Samsung’s Galaxy S26 announcement.
| Camera position | Xiaomi 17 Ultra | Samsung Galaxy S26 Ultra |
|---|---|---|
| Main | 50MP, 1-inch sensor (Xiaomi specification) | 200MP (Samsung specification) |
| Ultra-wide | 50MP, 14mm equivalent (Xiaomi specification) | 50MP (Samsung specification) |
| Telephoto | 200MP, 75–100mm equivalent focal range (Xiaomi specification) | 50MP 5x optical telephoto and 10MP 3x optical telephoto (Samsung specifications) |
These figures describe hardware, not image quality. Megapixels and focal lengths alone cannot settle which camera produces better daylight shots, low-light images, portraits, moving-subject photos or video. The available information does not establish a controlled side-by-side test of the two phones. If camera results will decide your purchase, compare independent samples made in the conditions you care about, including video and fast-moving subjects, rather than treating the specifications as a winner.

When a Xiaomi photography kit makes sense
Xiaomi says its 17 Ultra Photography Kit and Photography Kit Pro are sold separately. Their contents, compatibility, local stock and price should be checked for the specific market and phone version before treating either as part of the purchase. Xiaomi’s product page lists the kits and warns that regional features and services can vary.
What about battery life?
Xiaomi lists a 6000mAh typical battery capacity for the global Xiaomi 17 Ultra; Samsung lists 5000mAh for the Galaxy S26 Ultra. Capacity is not an endurance test: it cannot by itself account for screen settings, signal conditions, software or workload. TechRadar reported eight hours of screen-on time on its Xiaomi review sample, but that is one reviewer’s result, not a guaranteed outcome or a head-to-head comparison with Samsung. TechRadar’s review describes that sample experience; GSMArena’s global-model review notes that battery capacity differs between global and Chinese Xiaomi models. For a battery-led decision, look for tests of both exact regional models under the same protocol.

Does Samsung’s Privacy Display matter to you?
Samsung identifies the Galaxy S26 Ultra’s built-in Privacy Display as a new feature. It is relevant if you often read messages or work on sensitive information in public and want a screen privacy option integrated into the phone. That use case is not evidence of a measured privacy advantage over Xiaomi; Samsung’s announcement is the basis for the feature description, not a comparative test.
How should you compare software, size and ownership?
Software preference is personal, but long-term support is a concrete ownership consideration. The available comparable information does not establish a global, apples-to-apples support duration for both phones. Check the support commitment for each exact model in your country instead of assuming one regional policy applies worldwide. Xiaomi says product information on its global page is current as of February 2026 and that features or services may vary by region, software, apps and model. Xiaomi’s specifications page sets out those qualifications.

Likewise, verify the size and weight of the locally sold models, storage configuration, carrier-band compatibility, warranty, price and stock before ordering. Samsung announced worldwide availability of the S26 series on March 11, 2026, but that announcement does not establish current inventory or pricing in every market. Samsung’s availability notice provides the global announcement, not a live local stock check.
Independent reader supportYour contribution helps us test, update, and keep practical guides available for everyone.Which flagship should you buy?
- Choose the Xiaomi 17 Ultra if its published camera configuration—especially the 1-inch main sensor and 200MP 75–100mm telephoto—matches your priorities, and independent samples from your target region satisfy you. Include the cost and compatibility of any separately sold photography kit in your decision.
- Choose the Galaxy S26 Ultra if Samsung’s built-in Privacy Display is a feature you will use and the phone’s local price, configuration and software experience suit you.
- Do not choose on battery capacity alone. Compare equivalent endurance tests of the exact regional models.
- Consider the Galaxy S26 or S26+ if you want to stay in Samsung’s 2026 S-series but do not need the Ultra; compare their specific size, camera configuration and price in your market.
Samsung’s CEO, President and Head of Device eXperience Division TM Roh described the S26 series’ design aim this way: “With the Galaxy S26 series, we focused on making AI feel effortless, working quietly in the background so people can focus on what matters.” That is Samsung’s stated goal, not independent evidence that its software is better than Xiaomi’s. Samsung Global Newsroom published the statement with its February 2026 announcement.
