The XGIMI HORIZON Ultra is a long-throw 4K home projector with Dolby Vision, optical zoom and automated setup features. It makes the most sense if you want a large, bright living-room picture and can plan the projector’s distance from the screen. It is less compelling if your priorities are very dark-scene color performance or the fastest response for competitive gaming.
What the HORIZON Ultra offers
XGIMI identifies the projector as model XM13N. Its specifications list a 0.47-inch DMD, DLP display technique and a dual LED-and-laser light source. The listed resolution is 3840 × 2160 pixels, with support for HDR10, HLG and Dolby Vision. It also supports 3D and MEMC motion processing. See XGIMI’s specifications.

The feature mix is aimed at home viewing rather than portability: the unit has two 12 W Harman/Kardon speakers, Android TV 11.0, 2 GB of RAM and 32 GB of storage, according to XGIMI. Its published brightness is 2300 ISO lumens. That is a manufacturer specification, not a promise of the same result in every room: XGIMI says performance figures are theoretical values from internal laboratory testing and that brightness varies with usage conditions. Will it work in your room?
The HORIZON Ultra is a long-throw projector, not a short-throw model. XGIMI lists a throw ratio of 1.2–1.5:1, optical zoom and a supported image range of 40–200 inches. Measure the available distance and decide on a screen size before buying; automatic setup cannot eliminate the physical space a long-throw image requires.

Picture quality: bright-room appeal, with a dark-scene caveat
The published 2300 ISO-lumen rating and the projector’s living-room positioning make brightness a central part of its appeal. Still, the rating alone cannot tell you how the picture will look in your room: ambient light, screen size and viewing conditions matter, and XGIMI explicitly qualifies its brightness figure. For the most controlled viewing, reduce room light rather than treating the specification as a guarantee of daylight performance.

TechRadar’s review observed that darker content can stretch the projector’s lower-end color rendering and also discussed bright-room viewing. That is a review-specific observation, not a universal measurement for every scene or setup. If you often watch dim films and care most about shadow detail and subtle dark colors, weigh that caveat carefully. TechRadar’s HORIZON Ultra review.

XGIMI lists game-mode latency of at most 18 ms with AK off. Treat that as the manufacturer’s stated figure and configuration, not a blanket guarantee across every game or setup. RTINGS describes the HORIZON Ultra as an “alright living-room gaming projector,” noting that it favors brightness and image quality over raw speed. That makes it a more natural fit for casual or cinematic play than for players whose priority is the quickest response in competitive games. XGIMI game-mode specification; RTINGS review.

Should you buy the XGIMI HORIZON Ultra?
- Consider it if you want a 4K living-room projector with Dolby Vision, a manufacturer-rated 2300 ISO lumens, optical zoom and automated setup aids, and you can accommodate its long-throw placement.
- Think twice if your room is difficult to darken and you expect guaranteed daylight performance, if dark-scene color is your top priority, or if competitive-gaming responsiveness matters more than image presentation.
- Check the price at checkout. XGIMI’s US store displayed $999.00 against a comparison price of $1,699.99 when accessed on October 4, 2026. Store prices can change; those figures are specific to the US listing and that date. Check the current US listing.
The official specifications establish the feature set, but they do not provide a controlled comparison with the Anker Nebula Cosmos 4K or HORIZON Pro. Choose among those models using current pricing and the room, picture and gaming priorities that matter to you rather than assuming one is categorically better.
