Xfinity Mobile Review (2026): Lower-Cost Phone Plans for Internet Customers and Its Verizon Network History

Xfinity Mobile is worth pricing out if you already pay for Xfinity Internet and want a phone line billed alongside it. Its service combines 5G and LTE cellular access with Xfinity Wi-Fi hotspots. Comcast announced a Verizon Wireless reseller agreement in 2016, but Xfinity’s current consumer pages do not spell out the full present-day wholesale arrangement, so the service should not be treated as identical to buying directly from Verizon. Whether it works well depends on your address, your data habits, and your full monthly bill. The details below reflect Xfinity’s published pages as checked in early October 2026.

Do I need to be an Xfinity Internet customer to get Xfinity Mobile?

Yes. Xfinity Mobile is tied to Xfinity Internet service, and Xfinity’s support page lists that internet requirement alongside the plan prices. Taxes and fees may be added on top of the listed prices, and service availability varies by location, so a plan that appears on Xfinity’s site may not be offered at every address.

Current plans and what actually differs between them

Xfinity currently sells two phone plans, Mobile Select and Mobile Plus. The support page lists Mobile Select at $30 per line per month and Mobile Plus at $45 per line per month. Both displayed prices already include the multi-product discount for internet customers. The main practical difference is how each plan handles premium data and hotspot use.

Feature Mobile Select Mobile Plus
Listed price per line per month $30 (includes internet multi-product discount; taxes and fees extra) $45 (includes internet multi-product discount; taxes and fees extra)
Premium data 50 GB; after that, data is no longer prioritized and may be temporarily slower than other traffic during congestion Unlimited premium data that is not deprioritized or slowed
Personal hotspot at 5G speeds 15 GB 50 GB
Hotspot after the 5G allowance Unlimited use at 3G speeds Unlimited use at 3G speeds
Video resolution advertised on the plan page 720p 4K
Video default described on the support page 480p by default; customers must enable HD streaming 480p by default; customers must enable HD streaming

The gap between the two video figures matters. The plan page’s advertised resolution is not the out-of-the-box setting. If you want HD or 4K streaming, enable HD in your account or device settings before assuming the advertised quality. Choose Mobile Plus only if your household regularly exceeds 50 GB of phone data or relies heavily on hotspot use; for light and moderate users, the 50 GB premium allowance on Select is the figure to test against your own usage.

The free Mobile Select line for one year

Xfinity advertises a free Mobile Select line for a year, but the offer is narrower than the headline suggests:

  • It is limited to new members of Xfinity Mobile.
  • It is not available in all areas.
  • It requires residential post-pay internet of 300 Mbps or above.
  • It is limited to the value of one Select line, delivered as 12 monthly bill credits.
  • After the first year, regular pricing applies, and taxes, fees, and other charges may apply. Prices can change.

Before you count the free year as savings, check that your current internet tier qualifies and set a reminder for the month the credits end.

The By the Gig option is closed to new customers

The legacy By the Gig option is closed to customers who joined on or after April 22, 2026. Existing eligible customers may keep it, but switching away from it or moving to current pricing can prevent a return to that option. If you are an existing By the Gig customer, compare before you change anything on your account.

Does Xfinity Mobile run on Verizon’s network?

The clearest public evidence is Comcast’s 2016 corporate announcement, which said Comcast and Charter had each activated a mobile virtual network operator reseller agreement with Verizon Wireless. That announcement supports describing Xfinity Mobile’s network history as a Verizon MVNO relationship. It does not, by itself, establish the arrangement that applies to Xfinity Mobile in 2026, and Xfinity’s current consumer pages describe 5G, 4G LTE, and Xfinity Wi-Fi hotspots without naming the full wholesale terms or stating whether any exclusivity applies.

In practical terms, a reader can say that Xfinity Mobile was launched on a Verizon reseller agreement, as Comcast announced in 2016. A reader should not assume that Xfinity Mobile performs the same as Verizon’s own service in every location, or that the relationship is exclusive today.

Wi-Fi hotspots and the awards Xfinity cites

Xfinity’s coverage page advertises more than 20 million Wi-Fi hotspots, as accessed in 2026. Those hotspots are part of what the service uses to connect when cellular coverage is weak or when you are on a Wi-Fi network you can access, so a large hotspot count is useful mainly where you already spend time near them.

The same page cites three external measurements, each of which should be read with its source and date:

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.
  • Opensignal’s USA Converged Experience report, April 2026, which Xfinity credits for a combined Wi-Fi and mobile quality award.
  • RootMetrics’ State of the Mobile Union report for the United States, second half of 2025, which Xfinity cites for its reliability claim. RootMetrics states that its rankings are not an endorsement of Xfinity Mobile.

These are useful indicators of how Xfinity has been measured by third parties, but none of them is a guarantee of service at your home, workplace, or on your commute.

How to check coverage at your own addresses

  1. Open Xfinity’s coverage page and find its address or ZIP-code coverage check.
  2. Enter your home address first, then repeat the check for your workplace, your child’s school, and any cabin or regular travel route.
  3. Look separately at 5G, LTE, and Wi-Fi availability at each location. A result for one technology does not confirm the others.
  4. Keep a note of the results and the date you checked, because coverage can change.

What Xfinity does not guarantee

Xfinity’s customer agreement says network capacity, your device, terrain, buildings, foliage, and weather can all affect service availability and quality, and that cellular service is not guaranteed. A map that shows coverage at your address is a starting point, not a promise about indoor reception or congested hours.

Can I bring my own phone to Xfinity Mobile?

Often yes, and this is the most important cost decision for many switchers. Xfinity says most modern unlocked devices from Apple, Samsung, Google, and Motorola may be compatible, but it asks you to confirm each phone with its compatibility checker using the phone’s IMEI. “May be compatible” is not the same as a guarantee, so run the check before you rely on it.

  1. Confirm the phone is unlocked from its previous carrier. A phone that is still locked to another carrier cannot be used.
  2. Find the IMEI in your phone’s settings, or by dialing *#06#.
  3. Run the IMEI through Xfinity’s compatibility checker.
  4. Choose eSIM setup through the Xfinity app, or request a physical SIM if your phone or preference requires it.
  5. To keep your existing number, provide your Xfinity account information and the transfer PIN from your current carrier.

Buy a new phone only if your current device is locked, unavailable, or fails the compatibility check. If you do need one, choose an unlocked 5G model and run the IMEI check before purchase. Do not rely on a third-party listing to confirm compatibility; the checker on Xfinity’s site is the reference point.

A decision framework for comparing Xfinity Mobile with Verizon

Xfinity’s savings comparisons are its own marketing, tied to specific plans and dates, so do not treat them as an independent verdict. Compare the options using your own numbers:

  • Total monthly cost: add the line price, taxes, and fees on your Xfinity bill, then compare that total to the direct Verizon offer you would actually accept. Note whether the Xfinity figure includes the internet discount that depends on keeping Xfinity Internet.
  • Internet dependency: if you would drop Xfinity Internet, the Xfinity Mobile price and eligibility change. Factor that in before you cancel anything.
  • Data pattern: if you rarely pass 50 GB, Select is the natural test. If you stream heavily on a phone or depend on hotspot use, the difference between a 50 GB premium allowance and unlimited premium data is the decision point.
  • Location fit: the coverage check at each address you use matters more than any national reliability award.
  • Promotions: measure the monthly cost after the first year, when the free-line credits end and regular pricing applies.

The reviewed information does not include independent neighborhood-level tests that compare Xfinity Mobile and Verizon directly, so the answer for your household has to come from your own bill and your own coverage check.

Who should choose Xfinity Mobile

  • You already have Xfinity Internet and want a phone line on the same bill.
  • Your address and regular locations pass Xfinity’s coverage check on 5G or LTE, and you use Wi-Fi hotspots where you are likely to connect.
  • You are comfortable with a Verizon-network heritage that is documented for 2016 but not fully specified for today.
  • Your phone is unlocked and passes the IMEI check, or you are prepared to buy an unlocked 5G phone after checking compatibility.

Be cautious if you need guaranteed service at a rural property, a location with poor reception, or a hotspot-heavy work setup without a detailed test first. In those cases, compare direct carrier coverage and terms before you switch.
