Either Xbox Series X or Xbox Series S can play Gears of War: Reloaded. Xbox’s published targets for the game are 4K resolution, 60 FPS in Campaign, and 120 FPS in Multiplayer, but Xbox does not break those figures down by console. Choose between the systems for their published display capabilities, disc support, and storage options—not on an assumed Gears-specific performance advantage.

Does Gears of War: Reloaded run on both consoles?

Yes. Xbox lists Gears of War: Reloaded for Xbox Series X|S and describes it as optimized for both consoles. The game launched on August 26, 2025. Xbox’s game listing provides the platform and feature information.

In its May 5, 2025 Xbox Wire announcement, Xbox set game-wide targets of 4K resolution, 60 FPS in Campaign, and 120 FPS in Multiplayer. Those are not separate Series X and Series S benchmarks. In particular, the 4K target should not be read as proof that the game renders at native 4K on Series S. Xbox notes that 4K and high frame rates require supported content and a capable display.

What differs between Series X and Series S?

Xbox positions Series X for native 4K gaming and Series S for disc-free gaming designed around 1440p, with the ability to upscale to 4K. These are console-level descriptions, not measurements of Reloaded on either model.

Priority Better fit What the published information establishes
Native 4K console capability Series X Xbox describes Series X as supporting native 4K gaming; it does not publish a Gears-specific Series S output resolution.
Digital-only play and a 1440p design target Series S Xbox describes Series S as designed for disc-free 1440p gaming, with upscaling to 4K.
Physical game or movie discs Series X with UHD Blu-ray drive Series S has no optical drive. Xbox also lists an all-digital Series X configuration, so check the exact model listing.
More internal storage Depends on configuration Xbox lists Series X in 1TB and 2TB versions and Series S in 512GB and 1TB versions; availability varies by market.
Proven Gears-specific performance advantage No established winner Xbox publishes game-wide targets, not a model-by-model comparison.

Xbox’s current console comparison also lists 12 teraflops for Series X and 4 teraflops for Series S. Those are console specifications, not a Gears benchmark, and they do not establish how the game’s resolution or frame rate differs between the two.

Which console should you choose for Gears?

Choose Series X if you want 4K capability or discs

  • You want a console Xbox positions for native 4K gaming.
  • You need an optical drive for physical games or UHD Blu-ray movies; select a Series X configuration that includes the drive.
  • You want the option of a 2TB internal-storage configuration.

Choose Series S if digital-only fits your setup

  • You buy games digitally and do not need an optical drive.
  • You are comfortable with Xbox’s 1440p design target and its stated ability to upscale to 4K.
  • You prefer to choose between 512GB and 1TB internal-storage configurations, depending on what is available in your market.

Xbox says its Series X|S Storage Expansion Card is sold separately and matches the consoles’ custom SSD performance. It is an optional way to add storage, not a stated requirement for playing Reloaded.
