What the missing number means when buying
Treat the Nano’s battery as rechargeable convenience rather than as a guaranteed number of gaming hours. If predictable endurance is essential, plan for access to a USB-C charging point and keep a second compatible controller or another input method available for long sessions. That is a planning decision, not a claim about the Nano’s capacity or runtime.
What battery does the controller use?
The battery is internal and rechargeable. In normal operation, you do not remove the controller’s battery and swap AA cells. The built-in design keeps the power source inside the compact controller, but it also means a depleted battery must be connected to USB-C or otherwise managed according to the manufacturer’s instructions.

Which cable does the Xbox Nano Controller need?
USB-C is the required connector
Microsoft identifies USB-C as the charging connection. A cable with a USB-C plug that fits the controller is therefore the basic requirement. The reviewed listings do not state a required USB data standard, cable length, charging wattage, or a special proprietary cable specification.

Can you charge and play at the same time?

If you already own USB-C cables
