If Xbox disc-to-digital conversion is not working, first identify where it fails: the console may not read the disc, or it may read the disc without granting the digital license. Microsoft’s claim flow requires a supported Xbox console, an eligible Xbox One or Xbox Series X game disc, and launching the game. Not every disc qualifies, so a successful disc read does not guarantee a digital entitlement.
Start by identifying the failure

Check the console and disc
Use a console that can read physical discs
Microsoft describes claiming by inserting a supported Xbox One or Xbox Series X game disc into a supported Xbox console and launching the game. A disc-less console cannot perform that insert-and-launch flow itself. Check the exact console model before troubleshooting the license.
Verify the exact game disc is eligible
Microsoft says most Xbox One and Xbox Series X disc-based games support the feature, but its usage rules also state that not all discs are eligible. Eligibility can vary for technical, licensing, publishing, or other reasons, and Microsoft says it may change. Do not assume that every Xbox One or Xbox Series X disc qualifies, or that Xbox 360 and original Xbox discs are included. Retry the documented claim flow
- Insert the eligible disc into a supported Xbox console.
- Launch the game from that disc. This is the claim sequence Microsoft describes; its published information does not identify a separate universal conversion button or error-code sequence.
- If the game launches but the license is still missing, treat the title’s eligibility or completion of the claim as unresolved. Ask Xbox Support for current help tied to the specific title and account.
If the console cannot read the disc
Separate this from a license denial: a disc the console does not recognize cannot complete the insert-and-launch claim flow. The official feature announcement and usage rules do not provide a model-specific cleaning, repair, or error-code procedure. They therefore do not establish that buying another disc, cleaning supplies, or repair parts will fix a failed entitlement claim. If the console also cannot read other physical discs, seek support for the console or drive rather than treating the issue as a digital-license problem.

If access disappears after a successful claim
The digital license is limited access tied to continued possession of the qualifying disc; Microsoft says the license cannot be transferred separately from that disc. Its rules also allow Microsoft to require eligibility revalidation and say access may be suspended or revoked if you no longer have the disc. Keep the qualifying disc and check the account/license state if access stops working.

Digital access does not guarantee every cross-device benefit. Play Anywhere and cloud gaming apply only to games that support those features, and Microsoft says eligibility can be added or removed. Check the individual game’s support rather than assuming those benefits come with every conversion.
