Xbox Cloud Gaming is not shutting down, but the Xbox app is reported to stop being supported on 2020 Samsung Smart TVs on November 3, 2026. Windows Central says Microsoft gave operating-system compatibility as the reason and listed newer Samsung TVs, PCs, phones, tablets, and Xbox consoles as alternatives.
What is changing—and when?
According to an email from Microsoft quoted by Windows Central, Xbox app support on 2020 Samsung Smart TVs is scheduled to end on November 3, 2026. The report was updated October 2, 2026.

The quoted email says: “Starting 3 November, the XBOX app will no longer be supported on 2020 Samsung Smart TVs as updates to the technology that powers XBOX Cloud Gaming are no longer compatible with the operating system version available on these models.” This is a reported retirement for the app on one TV generation—not an announcement that Xbox Cloud Gaming itself is ending.
Why is support ending?
Microsoft’s explanation in the quoted email is that future technology updates powering Xbox Cloud Gaming are no longer compatible with the operating-system version on the affected TVs. The report does not establish a more specific technical cause. Explanations involving browser-engine versions or other underlying components should not be treated as Microsoft’s confirmed reason.

Which devices can still be used?
Windows Central’s report says the email names these options for continuing to stream:
- Samsung TVs from 2021 onward
- PCs
- Smartphones
- Tablets
- Xbox consoles
Those categories do not guarantee that every individual model, country, or service configuration is eligible. Samsung says availability varies by model and region, so check the exact device before relying on it. A new TV is not the only alternative: a compatible PC, phone, tablet, or Xbox console may suit you, depending on what you already own.

How to check whether your Samsung TV is a 2020 model
- On the TV, open Settings.
- Choose Support, then About This TV.
- Note the model number and compare it with Samsung’s model information and the applicable support details for your country.
Samsung’s US Gaming page lists specific 2020 and 2021 TV models and streaming services. Its lists are useful for identifying model eligibility, but they should not be read as a guarantee that Xbox app support on 2020 sets continues after the reported November 2026 cutoff.

What does Samsung say about requirements and availability?
Samsung’s Canada Gaming Hub page describes support on select models since 2022 and select 2021 models through a software update, and cautions that service availability depends on country and model. For Xbox Cloud Gaming on compatible Samsung TVs, it lists Game Pass, internet access, and a compatible controller as requirements. This regional guidance provides compatibility context; it does not independently confirm the reported retirement of support on 2020 TVs.

Samsung’s US Xbox app listing says streaming requires a Microsoft account with an Xbox profile, a supported Bluetooth controller, internet access, and a supported TV and region. It also notes that game catalog, server availability, and wait times vary. The listing shows app version 4.70.698 updated May 27, 2026; that app update date does not guarantee continued support for every TV generation.

No such workaround is identified in Microsoft’s reported notice. Samsung’s controller guidance applies to supported TV streaming setups; it does not say that pairing a different Bluetooth or USB controller, changing a setting, or updating the TV restores Xbox app support after the reported cutoff. If your set is affected, plan to use another compatible device if you want to keep streaming.
