This is not a public Microsoft transcript. Jez Corden of Windows Central says the transcript was shared with the outlet and verified by trusted sources, and the report was last updated October 6, 2026. Everything below is attributed to that reporting.

What did Sharma say about current Xbox consoles?
Per Windows Central, Sharma said Xbox must invest more in consoles even though the wider console segment is not growing. She described strengthening the Gen-9 Xbox Series X|S as key. She tied that to three efforts: Cloud Gaming, a disc-to-digital program, and growth in Xbox Play Anywhere. Windows Central’s headline frames Series X|S as “core” to the strategy.
The reported message is aimed at the installed base: the people who own a current Xbox, rather than a pivot away from console hardware.

What is Xbox Helix, and will it be a family of devices?
Helix is the name used for Xbox’s next generation, Gen-10. In the quote Windows Central published, Sharma said:
“We are moving to a family of devices for Gen-10. There is not one device that fits all. We will certainly have a great console first, but we also know that many players will be on the go. There are some things that we are the best in the world to manufacture, and there are other things that will we partner on. So, we will be sharing more about that as our plans develop. The operating system is starting to look really good. We’re very excited about this.”

What this does and does not establish
- Established (as reported): multiple device types, a console arriving first, some hardware made by Microsoft and some with partners, and an operating system that Sharma says is progressing well.
- Not established: any named handheld, any partner or manufacturer, specifications, pricing or launch timing. “On the go” is a strategic category in her remarks, not an announced product. Treat anything more specific as speculation.

What changes are coming to Game Pass?
Sharma reportedly said Game Pass will become “more flexible for more players,” continuing a stated direction toward letting subscribers tailor the kinds of content they access. Windows Central’s report gives no tiers, prices, dates or bundles. A secondary summary from Wolf’s Gaming Blog (Baden Ronie, October 6, 2026) repeats the point and labels any possible subscription configurations as speculation, which is the right way to read them.
How did Sharma describe Xbox’s business performance?
The report says she described declines in hours spent, players and revenue at the start of the year. She also said:

“We’re making the right decisions to reinvest in the business, after an all time low, we’ve started to return to growth, more than 2 to 3 times what we were, and we expect that continue.”
Windows Central updated its article to clarify that the “2 to 3 times” comparison referred specifically to first-party growth. It is not a claim that all Xbox measures have returned to growth.

Two other figures come with limits. A 30% increase in positive brand sentiment over the past year is attributed to Sharma, but the report does not name the survey, sample or method. The goal of one billion daily active people is an ambition, not a current user count or a forecast. None of these numbers has been independently verified.
Mission and wider platform remarks
Asked, in effect, why Xbox exists, Sharma reportedly answered: “We exist to be where the world plays, we will know when we have a billion daily active people, and we have a right to win because we’re now focused on our fans and franchises.”
She also reportedly discussed Xbox PC and Battle.net, saying of the latter, “We will do it the right way for those communities.” On the developer side, she spoke of simplifying the target and streamlining APIs so games can be published across Xbox Series X|S, Helix and Xbox PC. Windows Central also corrected a claim about a China storefront ranking to say she meant the Windows Store, and noted a caveat about China-based Steam users using VPNs.
What this means for current Xbox owners
Nothing in the report requires anyone to change a purchase plan. The reported emphasis on keeping a current Xbox console, such as the Xbox Series X, central to the strategy suggests the existing generation is not being abandoned. Concrete details on Helix hardware and Game Pass changes are still to come: Sharma herself said more would be shared “as our plans develop.”
