What is known about Lee’s status
The Oct. 2 RotoWire update says Lee is currently eligible under a temporary restraining order and is due to hear about an eligibility decision on Oct. 20. It also reports that a favorable decision from the Superior Court of Santa Clara County is needed for full eligibility. These details come from a secondary report attributing the update to The Spokesman-Review; no primary court order or Gonzaga announcement about Lee’s individual case was located in the sources available for this article. The distinction matters: playing under a temporary order is not the same as a final court ruling, and neither statement by itself establishes that Gonzaga or the NCAA has completed formal eligibility certification.
How the NCAA’s 2026-27 transition fits in
The NCAA adopted a Division I age-based eligibility model on June 23, 2026. For current athletes who have eligibility remaining after 2025-26, and first-time enrollees during 2026-27, the transition allows whichever is more favorable to the individual: the prior rules, which generally allow four seasons of competition in five years, or the new age-based model. The age-based model is the sole rule for prospects first enrolling in fall 2027 or later. The NCAA’s announcement explains the transition.

That policy is background, not a ruling on Lee’s case. It does not establish which rule applies to him, what relief the court will grant, or whether he has been finally certified.
Why a court decision and NCAA certification are different
NCAA Division I Proposal 2026-44 assigns an institution responsibility for certifying eligibility in specified circumstances. It says final certification is required before an athlete practices or competes, while allowing temporary certification for up to 45 days in a defined situation when certification is pending. The available sources do not establish that this NCAA temporary-certification provision is the same thing as the temporary restraining order described in reporting about Lee. The court process and an institution’s NCAA certification are separate concepts; one should not be treated as proof of the other.

The NCAA Eligibility Center advises current student-athletes and students enrolling in the upcoming academic year to discuss the age-based change with their institution’s athletics compliance office. Its guidance also said eligibility-period information would be available in certification accounts in early August. For Lee-specific developments, look for an on-record Gonzaga statement or a court record; for how the NCAA rules apply to an individual athlete, the school’s athletics compliance office is the relevant contact.
