There is no reliable public dollar total for a Wowza 24×7 YouTube stream without the current rate schedule and your traffic details. Wowza’s documented model combines a flat 24×7 subscription fee for each stream with separate per-gigabyte bandwidth and egress charges. The exact rates depend on the account and usage, so get the current schedule or a quote before budgeting.
One naming detail matters: “Wowza Streaming Cloud” is a legacy product name. Current public pages feature Wowza Flowplayer OVP and Wowza Streaming Engine, while the relevant 24×7 setup and cost guidance is in documentation labeled Wowza Video legacy. Check which product and billing mode your account actually offers before estimating costs. Wowza’s current pricing page covers different products and should not be treated as a rate card for Wowza Video 24×7.
How Wowza 24×7 pricing works
Wowza describes three cost components for a 24×7 stream: a flat subscription fee per stream, bandwidth charges, and egress charges. Bandwidth and egress are billed separately by the gigabyte; Wowza says the per-GB rate decreases as usage rises. That does not establish a universal total or mean that higher usage costs less overall. Wowza’s transcoding guidance explains the model, but the accessible public material does not establish the current 24×7 rate card.
A 24×7 billing mode is for an always-on channel, not simply an event stream’s hourly price multiplied by all the hours in a year. Wowza’s API description characterizes it as unlimited stream time for one channel with no time overages. A continuous non-leap year is 8,760 hours (24 × 365), useful for estimating traffic volume, but not a multiplier for an event-hour tariff. The API billing-mode documentation describes the channel model.

What you need for a defensible estimate
Ask Wowza for the current schedule that applies to your account and region, then estimate the traffic for the configuration you intend to run. At minimum, gather these inputs:
- How many 24×7 channels you need.
- The per-channel 24×7 subscription fee and applicable regional terms.
- Whether each channel uses passthrough or adaptive bitrate transcoding.
- The average delivered bitrate and planned active hours.
- If Wowza delivers the stream to viewers, expected audience and viewing hours.
- Which source and target traffic is counted as Wowza bandwidth versus egress.
- Any separate infrastructure charges if you use Wowza Streaming Engine on a public cloud.
Do not assume that every byte in the workflow is billed the same way. Ask Wowza to clarify how your source, output destination, delivery path, and any audience playback affect bandwidth and egress for your configuration.

Estimate network volume, not a Wowza invoice
For a rough data-volume illustration, decimal gigabytes can be estimated as average bitrate in megabits per second × active seconds ÷ 8,000. For example, the formula turns an assumed bitrate and runtime into a rough transfer volume; it is arithmetic, not a Wowza quote. Actual billed volume can differ because of transcoded renditions, protocol overhead, source and target traffic accounting, and provider definitions. Add no assumed bitrate or viewer count unless it reflects your own planned stream.
How stream settings change the bill
Passthrough sends the source directly without transcoding and generally uses fewer bits. Adaptive bitrate transcoding creates multiple renditions for different devices and network conditions, which can add processing and bandwidth. Neither is automatically the cheaper choice for every workflow: compare the quality and playback behavior you need with the actual account rates and traffic path. Wowza’s setup documentation says a 24×7 stream cannot be recorded or run in 4K. It runs until manually stopped or stopped by a schedule, does not automatically stop after 20 minutes idle, and its billing mode cannot be changed after creation. Choose the mode and verify these limitations before creating the stream. Wowza’s live stream setup documentation lists these operating details.
Confirm the YouTube workflow before building around it
A historical Wowza Streaming Cloud overview names YouTube as an RTMP destination, but that older documentation is not proof that the current account interface, labels, or YouTube ingest requirements are unchanged. Verify YouTube destination support and the setup steps in the documentation or account for the specific Wowza product you will use. The historical overview is evidence of a documented workflow, not a current setup guarantee.

Also distinguish the software that provides a stream from the platform receiving it. Confirm the stream target, protocol, and account configuration on both sides rather than relying on a legacy label or old instructions.

The current Streaming Engine pricing page lists Basic Monthly at $195 per month and One Month of Streaming at $295 as a one-time purchase. Those are Streaming Engine license prices, not the Wowza Video 24×7 subscription or its bandwidth and egress charges. A cloud deployment can also add the cloud provider’s compute, storage, and bandwidth costs on top of the Wowza license. Check Wowza’s current product pricing and compare like with like.

When you may need a continuous source device
Some configurations need an encoder or IP camera to supply a continuous source. Wowza materials mention hardware encoders and IP cameras, with Axis, NewTek, Sony, Telestream, and Teradek as examples of professional vendors. That does not make a purchase mandatory: existing equipment or software encoding may suit your setup. If you do need dedicated contribution hardware, search for an RTMP video encoder and confirm compatibility with the current Wowza and YouTube workflow before buying.
