ASOS says it is investigating unauthorised activity involving third-party platforms used to communicate with customers. An unauthorised notification was sent on 6 October 2026. ASOS says names and contact details may have been accessed, but it does not believe payment-card information or account passwords were affected. That is the company’s current statement, not a final forensic finding. The UK National Cyber Security Centre (NCSC) advises ASOS customers to assume they may be affected, including those who did not receive the notification; this is precautionary guidance, not proof that every customer’s data was accessed.
What ASOS and officials have said
ASOS said the activity under investigation involved third-party platforms it uses to communicate with customers. The company’s announcement describes the unauthorised customer notification and its current understanding of the information potentially involved: names and contact details may have been accessed, while ASOS does not believe payment-card details or account passwords were impacted. The investigation is ongoing, so the scope could be clarified as more information becomes available. ASOS’s 6 October 2026 update

The NCSC’s advice to assume you may be affected is a sensible precaution while the scope is uncertain. It does not establish that every customer’s information was accessed. The NCSC also notes that customers who did not receive the unauthorised notification should still follow its guidance. NCSC: Incident affecting ASOS customers

What to do now
1. Treat unexpected messages as untrusted
Do not click links or open attachments in unexpected emails, texts, app notifications, or other messages about the incident. Do not reply with personal or financial information, even if a message sounds urgent or claims to prove that your data was exposed. A notification or threat is not, by itself, confirmation of what information was accessed.
Use ASOS’s official website or app by opening it yourself, rather than following a link in a message. For incident updates, use ASOS Customer Care and official agency pages.

Check the customer-care page for any change in guidance. ASOS: Unauthorised ASOS Notification
3. Review password reuse on important accounts
If you reused your ASOS password elsewhere, change it on those other services, especially email, banking, shopping, and accounts used to recover other logins. Use each service’s official site or app and choose a different, strong password for each account. The NCSC recommends passkeys where available, or strong, separate passwords, along with two-step verification where a service offers it. Do not assume ASOS supports a particular sign-in option unless its current account documentation confirms it.

What is not established
The official statements cited here do not confirm the threatening message’s claim about a particular database. They also do not give a verified number of affected customers. Avoid treating either claim as fact unless an official, dated update establishes it. ASOS’s current description of potentially accessed information and its view about payment-card information and passwords should be understood as provisional while the investigation continues.
