Yes—your computer can run World of Warcraft if it meets every item in Blizzard’s minimum specification for its operating system. For a new Windows purchase, use Blizzard’s recommended tier rather than the minimum as your shopping checklist. Compare the exact processor, graphics-card model and architecture, video memory, system RAM, free storage, operating-system version, display and input devices; a product label alone is not enough to establish compatibility.
The figures below come from Blizzard’s live official World of Warcraft requirements page and its separate Forever GPU Requirements notice. Minimum and recommended tiers are specification thresholds, not tested frame-rate, graphics-quality or resolution promises.

What “minimum” and “recommended” actually tell you
A minimum specification is a compatibility floor. It says the listed operating system, processor, graphics capability, memory, storage and peripherals are the baseline Blizzard publishes for running the game. Every part matters: a fast CPU cannot compensate for an unsupported GPU architecture, and a graphics card with enough video memory does not make an underpowered processor meet the whole tier.

The recommended tier is a more sensible target when buying a computer because it provides more headroom for the game’s current visual and content demands. It still is not a guarantee of a particular frame rate, graphics preset or performance at a chosen resolution. Blizzard’s tables do not publish FPS tests or comparisons among specific PC models.

Blizzard can change a live requirements page. The Windows and Mac tables below reflect the page available in October 2026; check the linked page again when you purchase or install, especially if you are using older hardware.
Windows system requirements
These are Blizzard’s current Windows thresholds. “Manufacturer driver support required” on the minimum graphics line means the card must have a functioning driver supplied for the game’s required graphics API; a family name by itself is not proof that a particular card qualifies.
| Component | Windows minimum | Windows recommended |
|---|---|---|
| Operating system | Windows 7 64-bit (Service Pack 1) | Windows 10 64-bit |
| Processor | 4 cores at 3.0 GHz; 4th Generation Intel Core Haswell or AMD Ryzen Zen | 6 cores at 3.5 GHz; 8th Generation Intel Core Coffee Lake or AMD Ryzen Zen 2 |
| Graphics | DirectX 12-capable 3 GB GPU; NVIDIA GeForce GTX 900 series, AMD GCN 4th generation, or Intel Iris Xe Graphics, with manufacturer driver support | DirectX 12-capable 8 GB GPU; NVIDIA GeForce RTX, AMD RDNA 2, or Intel Arc 7 Graphics |
| Memory | 8 GB RAM | 16 GB RAM |
| Storage | 128 GB available. Blizzard lists an SSD and warns that HDD performance can affect the experience. | 128 GB available on an SSD |
| Internet | Broadband internet | Broadband internet |
| Input | Keyboard and mouse required | Multi-button mouse with a scroll wheel |
| Minimum display resolution | 1280 × 720 | 1280 × 720 |
The storage number means space available for the installation, not the drive’s advertised capacity. A drive with exactly 128 GB on its label may not have 128 GB free after Windows, recovery partitions and other software are installed. Leave practical room for the operating system and other applications instead of planning to fill a drive to its last gigabyte.

| Component | Mac minimum | Mac recommended |
|---|---|---|
| Operating system | macOS 10.13 | macOS 11 |
| Processor | Intel Core i5-4670 or Apple M1 | Intel Core i7-6700K or Apple M1 Max or better |
| Graphics | NVIDIA GeForce GT 750M 2 GB; AMD Radeon R9 M290 2 GB; Intel UHD 630 on macOS 10.13 or higher (45 W); or an Apple M1 Metal-capable GPU | AMD Radeon RX Vega 64 8 GB or Apple M1 Max or better |

| Minimum display resolution | 1024 × 768 | 1024 × 768 |
The integrated-graphics qualification is easy to miss: a Mac using one of Blizzard’s supported integrated graphics options needs 8 GB of system memory even though the general Mac minimum row says 4 GB. On a used Mac, identify the exact chip and graphics configuration rather than relying on the year or the phrase “Intel Mac.”
GPU architecture is a separate compatibility check
Meeting the complete minimum graphics specification and belonging to a supported architecture are two different tests. In its September 17, 2026 GPU notice, Blizzard says the required architecture is AMD Graphics Core Next 1 (2012), NVIDIA Maxwell (2014), Intel Skylake (2015) or newer.
| Architecture status | Blizzard’s examples | How to interpret the example |
|---|---|---|
| Supported generations | AMD GCN 1 (2012), NVIDIA Maxwell (2014), Intel Skylake (2015) and newer | Architecture support only; you must still satisfy the full graphics row, including video memory and DirectX capability. |
| Examples Blizzard identifies as compatible | AMD Radeon HD 7850; NVIDIA GeForce GTX 9xx and GTX 750/750 Ti; Intel HD Graphics 530 | Blizzard explicitly says these examples remain well below the game’s minimum requirements. They are not recommended buying targets. |
| Examples Blizzard identifies as unsupported | AMD Radeon HD 6950; NVIDIA GeForce GTX 760, 770, 780 and GTX 8xxM; Intel HD Graphics 6000 | Cards in these examples fail the architecture requirement even if another specification appears adequate. |
The notice says the visual update relies on RGBA16F UAV support in compute shaders. Blizzard explains: This change helps support the updated visual look of World of Warcraft and provides a more consistent experience for players.
That technical requirement is why an older card can fail even when its name sounds close to a supported model.
How to identify a Windows GPU
- Open Settings → System → Display → Advanced display and read the connected display adapter information.
- If that view does not show enough detail, open Device Manager → Display adapters. Record the complete model name, not just the series.
- Use the exact model to verify its dedicated video memory, architecture generation and DirectX 12 capability against the Windows table. Integrated graphics may use shared system memory, so do not treat the computer’s total RAM as dedicated VRAM.
How to check an existing Windows PC
Run these checks before downloading the game or buying an upgrade. Record the results in one list and compare every line with the Windows table; passing most categories does not compensate for failing one required category.

- Processor specifications: Adopting AMD Ryzen 5 5600 processor, with a basic clock speed of 3.5GHz and a turbo frequency of 4.4GHz, it can achieve fast response computing performance
- Graphics Card: Features GeForce RTX 3050 graphics card with 6GB dedicated video memory for gaming and multimedia applications
- Memory configuration: Equipped with 32GB DDR4 RAM (16GB * 2), providing sufficient memory capacity for multitasking and demanding applications
- Gaming Performance: Designed to handle modern gaming titles and graphics-intensive tasks with smooth frame rates and visual quality
- Desktop System: Complete gaming desktop computer system ready for setup and use out of the box
- Operating system: Open Settings → System → About. Confirm that Windows is 64-bit and note the edition and version. The published minimum is Windows 7 64-bit with Service Pack 1; the recommended row specifies Windows 10 64-bit.
- Processor: Press Ctrl + Shift + Esc to open Task Manager, select Performance → CPU, and record the model, core count and reported speed. Then identify the processor generation from its complete model number. A nominal boost-clock figure or a marketing label such as “i7” does not establish the required generation or sustained clock.
- Graphics card: In Task Manager → Performance → GPU or Device Manager → Display adapters, copy the exact GPU model. Check dedicated video memory, DirectX 12 support and architecture. If the PC has both integrated and discrete graphics, verify which adapter the game will use and whether the discrete model is the qualifying one.
- System memory: In Settings → System → About or Task Manager → Performance → Memory, check installed RAM. Compare the total with the table, and remember that an integrated GPU can reserve part of that memory.
- Free storage and drive type: Open File Explorer → This PC, inspect the free space on the intended installation drive, and check whether it is an SSD or HDD. The requirement is available space, while Blizzard specifically lists an SSD for recommended configurations and warns that HDD performance can affect the experience.
- Display: Go to Settings → System → Display → Advanced display to see the active resolution. The Windows table lists 1280 × 720 as the minimum display resolution for both tiers.
- Network and controls: Confirm that the connection is broadband and that a keyboard and mouse are available. The recommended Windows input entry calls for a multi-button mouse with a scroll wheel.
Decide whether your PC is a sensible match
Every minimum line passes
If the operating system, processor, GPU architecture and full graphics specification, RAM, free storage, broadband connection, display and input devices all meet the minimum row, the machine is within Blizzard’s published compatibility floor. That statement does not predict a frame rate or guarantee a particular graphics setting; those outcomes depend on the exact hardware, game settings and workload, none of which are benchmarked in the official tables.
Architecture passes but the GPU row does not
A card from a supported generation can still fail because it has less than the listed video memory, lacks the required DirectX capability or is one of the low-performance examples Blizzard says are below minimum. Treat architecture as a gate, not as a performance grade.
CPU, RAM or storage falls short
Do not call the PC compliant because its graphics card is modern. The minimum is a complete system tier. An otherwise suitable machine with less memory, fewer processor cores, an older processor generation or insufficient free space needs an upgrade or a different computer before it can be described as meeting the published requirement.
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problems2Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minute3Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errorsThe game is on an HDD
An HDD may have enough capacity, but Blizzard warns that HDD performance can affect the player experience. If you are choosing between otherwise similar systems, an SSD that meets the recommended storage row is the safer specification-led choice.

What to buy for a new Windows PC
Use the recommended Windows column as the target, then verify the actual part numbers in the listing. Broad descriptions such as “RTX graphics,” “gaming i7” or “16 GB-ready” leave out the model, architecture, memory and configuration details that determine whether the machine matches Blizzard’s table.
| Shopping check | What the recommended row requires | What to verify in the listing |
|---|---|---|
| Operating system | Windows 10 64-bit | The installed edition and 64-bit architecture, not merely a claim that Windows is included. |
| CPU | Six cores at 3.5 GHz, in the 8th Generation Intel Core Coffee Lake or AMD Ryzen Zen 2 class | Exact processor model, physical core count and the manufacturer’s generation. Do not infer this from an i5/i7 or Ryzen label alone. |
| GPU | DirectX 12-capable 8 GB card in the NVIDIA RTX, AMD RDNA 2 or Intel Arc 7 families | Exact GPU, dedicated VRAM amount, architecture and driver support. Confirm whether the listing’s “8 GB” refers to the GPU rather than system RAM. |
| System RAM | 16 GB | Installed capacity, number of modules and whether the advertised amount is actually included. |
| Storage | 128 GB available on an SSD | SSD type and usable free space after Windows and recovery data are installed. A 128 GB drive may not provide 128 GB available to the game. |
| Display and controls | At least 1280 × 720; multi-button mouse with scroll wheel | Panel resolution and included peripherals if the computer is sold as a complete setup. |
For a used Windows machine, ask the seller for screenshots or a system report showing the exact CPU and GPU models, installed RAM, drive type and free space. A photo of a case badge or a generic “gaming PC” title is not sufficient evidence. Compare the supplied model numbers with the requirements page before paying.
Independent reader supportYour contribution helps us test, update, and keep practical guides available for everyone.Choosing a Mac
Start with the Mac table, not with a Windows-equivalent shopping list. Apple’s processor and GPU names vary by generation, and the Mac minimum explicitly lists both Intel and Apple-silicon options. Confirm the model’s chip, graphics configuration, RAM and macOS version in Apple menu → About This Mac. Use System Settings → General → Storage to check available space and look for an SSD in the storage details.
Recommended Free Tools
For a new Mac, matching the recommended Mac row is the straightforward approach. For a used Intel model, verify the exact Core i5-4670, Core i7-6700K or other listed configuration rather than assuming every Mac from the same release year has the same processor. For Apple silicon, check whether the machine is an M1 or an M1 Max-or-better configuration and whether its graphics capability is the one Blizzard lists.

Common purchase and installation mistakes
Confusing a product family with a qualifying model
“NVIDIA RTX,” “AMD Radeon” and “Intel graphics” each cover many products. The requirements identify families, generations, memory and API capability. Obtain the full model number and compare it with all of those fields.
Counting shared memory as dedicated GPU memory
Integrated graphics can borrow system RAM. That does not turn an 8 GB computer into an 8 GB dedicated graphics card. Check the adapter’s own specification and keep the Mac integrated-graphics memory qualification in mind.
Checking only the GPU
A compliant GPU does not override an under-spec processor, insufficient RAM, an unsupported operating system or inadequate free storage. Use the complete checklist.
Buying a drive with nominal capacity equal to the requirement
The tables state available space. Operating-system files and recovery partitions reduce usable capacity, so select a drive with enough headroom rather than one whose advertised size barely equals the requirement.
Assuming a supported architecture guarantees recommended play
Blizzard’s architecture notice deliberately includes examples that are still below the minimum specification. Architecture support prevents one class of incompatibility; it does not establish speed, image quality or FPS.
Troubleshoot a failed requirements check
- Unsupported operating system message: Recheck the exact edition and 64-bit status in Settings or About This Mac. Compare it with the appropriate platform table instead of applying the other platform’s rule.
- GPU or graphics API error: Record the full adapter name from Device Manager or Advanced display, then check architecture, VRAM and DirectX capability. A card listed as an unsupported architecture cannot be made compliant by changing game settings.
- Not enough disk space: Check free space on the selected drive, remove or relocate unrelated files, or choose an SSD with more usable capacity. Recheck after any operating-system update because available space changes.
- Stuttering or slow loading from an HDD: Blizzard warns that HDD performance can affect the experience. Moving the installation to a qualifying SSD addresses the storage-performance concern; it does not upgrade an under-spec CPU or GPU.
- Input or display problem: Confirm a keyboard and mouse are connected and that the display can show at least the platform’s listed minimum resolution. A higher-resolution monitor does not make below-minimum hardware meet the other requirements.
- Conflicting information from a seller: Request the exact CPU and GPU part numbers, GPU memory, RAM amount, drive type and operating-system version. If a key value is not stated, treat it as unverified rather than assuming the best case.
What Blizzard’s table does not promise
The official requirements do not provide independent benchmark results, expected frame rates, image-quality presets, comparative tests between processors or graphics cards, or a guarantee for a particular laptop model. They are published hardware and software thresholds. Real performance can vary with settings, resolution, thermals, background software and the exact implementation of a component, so a specification match should be presented as compatibility—not as a measured FPS result.
The Windows page currently lists legacy operating-system versions, but that listing alone does not establish a broader security or support policy for those operating systems. Treat the linked requirements page as the authority for the current game requirement and verify it again at the time of installation.

A practical final checklist
- Choose the correct platform table: Windows or Mac.
- Verify the operating-system version and 64-bit requirement where applicable.
- Record the exact CPU model, core count, clock specification and generation.
- Record the exact GPU model, architecture, dedicated video memory and DirectX or Metal capability.
- Check installed system RAM, including the extra Mac memory requirement for supported integrated graphics.
- Confirm the required amount of free space on the intended drive and prefer an SSD for the recommended configuration.
- Confirm broadband internet, a keyboard and mouse, and the platform’s minimum display resolution.
- For a purchase, demand component-level specifications; never rely on a generic gaming-PC label.
- Recheck Blizzard’s live requirements page and GPU notice before installing, because the pages can change.
