Yes, Uber has a rider setting called “Women Drivers.” Eligible women can select it for an on-demand trip, use it when reserving a ride where offered, or save it as an app preference. It raises the chance of being matched with a woman driver, but Uber says it cannot guarantee that every trip will be driven by a woman.
What Uber’s women-only option actually is
Women Drivers is a matching preference inside the regular Uber app, not a separate ride category or a guaranteed women-only service. Uber attempts to match a woman rider with a woman driver when local supply allows. If no suitable driver is available, the request may take longer or you may be offered a different match.

Uber Help describes the feature as available to riders and drivers whose gender is set to Woman in the corresponding app. Uber says rider gender is determined using technology based on the first name, while driver gender information comes from government-issued identification. That is Uber’s stated policy description, not an independent verification of how every account is classified.
How to request a woman Uber driver
Choose Women Drivers for an immediate ride
- Open the Uber rider app and enter your destination.
- In the ride options or preferences shown for your trip, look for Women Drivers.
- Select the option and review the displayed pickup estimate and fare.
- Request the ride. The app will search for an eligible woman driver in the area.
Labels and availability can differ by city, time and account. If Women Drivers is not shown, the option is not currently available for that request or account.

Save the preference in the app
Where Uber offers the setting, turn on Women Drivers in the rider app’s preferences or settings. Uber says this increases the likelihood of a woman-driver match on future eligible trips; it does not force every trip to use one.
Reserve a trip in advance
In markets that support the option, choose Women Drivers while reserving a ride for a later date. Reservation gives you planning time, but it is not a guarantee that a woman driver will ultimately accept or be assigned. Check the reservation details and the live status in the app.

What if no woman driver is available?
Uber says availability can change by location and time because it has fewer women drivers on the platform than men drivers. If the search is taking too long, you have three practical choices:
- Wait: Keep the Women Drivers request active while the app continues searching.
- Reserve later: Use a reservation when that option appears and your plans allow it.
- Take another available ride: Accept a faster match, understanding that the driver may not be a woman and the Women Drivers preference will not be met for that trip.
The live options in your current Uber app are the authoritative check for your city and account.

Where is Women Drivers available?
Uber announced a nationwide U.S. rollout on March 9, 2026, after expanding to 60 U.S. cities by the end of 2025. The same announcement listed rider availability in cities across the United States, Germany, France, Saudi Arabia, Portugal, Brazil and Spain. “Nationwide” describes the U.S. rollout; it does not mean every account, city or trip will show the feature at all times.
Uber’s Help guidance cautions that both the feature and driver supply vary by location and time. An earlier Uber Newsroom announcement referred to 26 U.S. cities; that was an earlier rollout milestone, superseded by the March 9, 2026 announcement.

How much does a Women Drivers trip cost?
Uber says it aims to price Women Drivers trips comparably with similar trips, but the fare for your ride can change with time, distance, demand and driver availability. Compare the upfront price shown in the app before requesting or reserving; do not assume the preference carries a fixed surcharge or a fixed discount.

Uber says the woman who requested the ride must be present when bringing guests. It also says a woman driver may cancel a Women Drivers trip if a male guest is brought along. If someone else will accompany you, review the ride’s current terms and be prepared for the driver to decline or cancel under that policy.

Can a teen request a woman driver?
In locations where both Uber Teen and Women Preferences are offered, a teen or guardian can request a woman driver for an on-demand or reserved trip. This is conditional: the two features must be available in that city and on the relevant accounts. Check the teen-ride flow in the app rather than assuming the option is supported everywhere.
Does choosing Women Drivers make a ride safer?
The feature gives riders and drivers a choice about matching, and historical research documents why some women prefer women-only trips in particular contexts. The available Uber material does not establish that selecting Women Drivers measurably reduces the risk of an individual trip, so it should not be treated as a safety guarantee or as a replacement for Uber’s ordinary in-app safety tools and sensible travel precautions.
Why Uber introduced the preference
The driver-side rationale is especially clear in Saudi Arabia. An International Finance Corporation 2020 case study reported that 74 percent of prospective women drivers interviewed there said they would be interested in driving only women riders. That is a historical, Saudi-specific finding—not a current estimate of Uber drivers worldwide.
