Its strongest appeal is that familiar appearance paired with long intervals between charges—not a smartwatch-sized display or a fully featured on-wrist interface. Whether that trade-off suits you depends on how much you value a traditional watch face, which health features are cleared where you live, and whether you want basic tracking or paid interpretation services.
What makes the ScanWatch 2 a hybrid watch?
Withings combines a traditional analog-style face and hands with a compact 0.63-inch grayscale OLED display. The screen is rated at 282 pixels per inch, but it is intended for brief readouts rather than the broad, touch-first interface of a conventional smartwatch. A stainless-steel case, sapphire glass, and stainless-steel crown reinforce its wristwatch look.

The display is a practical compromise: it keeps the face visually restrained, but limits how much information is comfortable to view at once. If you want to scroll through messages, maps, or detailed workout screens on your wrist, the ScanWatch 2’s format is not designed for that kind of use.
Which size and fit should you choose?
Withings currently lists 38 mm and 42 mm case versions. The listed weights exclude the wristband, so the complete watch will weigh more.

| Case size | Weight without wristband | Band detail listed by Withings |
|---|---|---|
| 38 mm | 34.6 g | Check the selected variant’s band and lug dimensions before buying a replacement. |
| 42 mm | 52.6 g | Withings lists a 20 mm band for the selected 42 mm product; check the exact variant before choosing another strap. |
The difference in listed weight is substantial, and the best fit is personal: case diameter, wrist size, and band choice all affect how a watch feels. Do not assume that a third-party strap advertised for one ScanWatch 2 size fits the other; confirm the lug or band dimensions for the exact model.
What health and activity features does it offer?
Withings lists ECG, heart-rate and blood-oxygen tracking, daily temperature monitoring, breathing-quality assessment, menstrual-cycle information, sleep duration and phases, elevation tracking, and activity detection for walking, running, and swimming. It also says the watch can automatically detect activities. The 16-channel, multi-wavelength PPG sensor, high-dynamic-range accelerometer, altimeter, and TempTech24/7 system are among the hardware and sensing features Withings describes.
ECG and health readings are not a diagnosis
Withings says its ECG app can record a single-lead ECG in 30 seconds and use readings to detect atrial fibrillation (AFib); its product page states that ECG functionality has FDA clearance. Those statements do not make every reading or feature a diagnosis, nor do they establish clearance in every country. Withings warns that feature availability and clinical validation vary by region. Check the current local user guide and feature availability before relying on a particular function. Withings’ product information says: “If you have any concerns about your results, consult your doctor.”

Temperature and sensor design
Withings describes TempTech24/7 as combining a miniaturized heat-flux sensor with ambient and skin-temperature readings, calibrated using heart-rate and accelerometer data. The company also identifies its multi-channel PPG sensor as a difference from the ScanWatch Light. These descriptions explain the sensor approach; they do not independently establish measurement accuracy.
Sleep and activity tracking
The watch records sleep duration and phases, and its activity features include steps or elevation-related tracking, selected exercise types, and automatic detection. In September 2025, Withings said a HealthSense 4 update introduced REM sleep tracking. A Tom’s Guide reviewer later reported that sleep metrics broadly matched another device, with minor differences in sleep and wake timing. That is one reviewer’s observation, not a guarantee that results will match another person’s or device’s.
How long does the battery last, and how is it charged?
Withings’ current US product page, accessed in 2026, lists up to 35 days of battery life and a two-hour charging time. The “up to” figure is a maximum manufacturer specification, not a promise for every pattern of use. The company’s August 31, 2023 launch announcement gave a 30-day figure, while its September 2025 announcement also described 35 days; these are dated claims, not a single unchanged specification.

The watch charges off the wrist on the included docking station, using a USB-C-compatible charging arrangement. That means time on the dock is time without the watch on your wrist. Tom’s Guide’s reviewer said they charged it twice between April 23 and July 3 and found the battery claim credible in their own use, while noting frequent screen use can increase drain. The reviewer also called the charger nonstandard. Their experience is useful context, not a universal battery test or current replacement-dock price.
What is free, and what does Withings+ add?
Withings distinguishes basic data access from Withings+, a paid service presented as adding guidance, insights, and clinical services. Its September 2025 announcement named the Health Assistant, Vitality score, and Cardio Check-Up among Withings+ features, and described the Vitality Indicator as drawing on heart-rate variability (HRV), activity, temperature, oxygen saturation, respiratory rhythm, and sleep quality.
The 2025 announcement also described a one-month Withings+ trial with purchase. That is a dated offer, not a guarantee that the trial is still included. Subscription availability, price, and promotion can depend on location and change over time; check the current terms shown for your country before buying. The watch’s basic data access and subscription-based interpretation are separate parts of the proposition.

What do published first impressions suggest?
Tom’s Guide’s reviewer described the design as a conventional-looking analog watch carrying health and fitness technology. The reviewer found it bulkier than a sleek wearable and said a dedicated sleep mat may suit sleep tracking specifically better. These are individual observations, not universal fit or performance findings.
The practical takeaway is that the ScanWatch 2’s distinctive benefit is its understated, watch-like format. It may suit someone who wants health tracking without a large black smartwatch face. Someone who prioritizes a slim wearable, a larger screen, or a sleep-focused device may be better served by a different form factor.

Quick Recap
What should you check before buying?
- Size and band: Choose between the 38 mm and 42 mm case, then verify dimensions before ordering a replacement strap.
- Local feature availability: Confirm which health functions are available and validated in your region; regulatory status is not uniform worldwide.
- Screen expectations: Consider whether a small grayscale readout is enough for your daily use, rather than expecting a full smartwatch interface.
- Charging routine: Account for taking the watch off to charge it on its included dock, and decide whether a nonstandard charger is acceptable for your ownership habits.
- Subscription terms: Separate the included basic data from optional Withings+ services, and verify current local pricing and any trial offer.
