Verdict: Withings BeamO is a $249.95 handheld monitor that combines temperature, a one-lead ECG, an electronic stethoscope and, where enabled, pulse-oximetry. Its real advantage is consolidating readings and sharing them through one app—not diagnosing illness. In the United States, Withings currently lists SpO₂ and AFib detection as unavailable pending FDA approval, making the international “four-in-one” pitch incomplete for U.S. buyers.
What BeamO is
BeamO is an 80-gram device measuring 3.7 × 1.9 × 13.6 cm, with a 1.9-inch color display. It connects to the Withings app over Bluetooth Low Energy and 2.4-GHz Wi-Fi (the product page also lists optional LTE Cat-M1), then stores readings, trends and shared reports in the Withings ecosystem. The U.S. list price is $249.95. Withings product details

| Function | What it does | Key limitation |
|---|---|---|
| Temperature | Contactless temporal-artery measurement | Intermittent readings, not continuous monitoring |
| ECG | Approximately 30-second, single-channel rhythm recording using two electrodes | Not equivalent to a clinical 12-lead ECG; U.S. indication is for people 22 and older and under physician-care or prescription conditions |
| SpO₂ | Blood-oxygen measurement where software and regulatory status allow | Withings lists it as unavailable in the U.S. pending FDA approval |
| Electronic stethoscope | Records heart and lung sounds for clinician sharing | Placement, contact and noise strongly affect recordings; it is not intended for self-diagnosis |
Withings’ U.S. feature page is the authority for regional activation: ECG is available, with first-recording activation review by a board-certified cardiologist; AFib detection and SpO₂ are listed as pending FDA approval. FDA clearance: specific, not blanket approval
The FDA lists Withings BeamO model SCT02 under 510(k) K252474, with a decision date of November 10, 2025. The cleared U.S. intended uses cover single-channel ECG recording, a clinical thermometer and electronic-stethoscope recording. Clearance means substantial equivalence for those specified uses; it does not certify BeamO as a universal home diagnostic system or activate every international feature. Temperature, ECG and everyday workflow
Temperature
The product guide specifies a 34.0–42.2°C (93.2–108.0°F) range. Stated clinical accuracy is ±0.2°C (±0.4°F) from 35.5–42°C (95.9–107.6°F), and ±0.3°C (±0.5°F) outside that central range. Those are manufacturer and regulatory specifications, not a promise that every home reading will match a clinic; positioning, movement and ambient conditions matter. Product guide

ECG
Two stainless-steel electrodes capture a roughly 30-second, one-lead rhythm snapshot. The FDA documentation says the device itself does not provide ECG analysis or ECG-derived heart-rate functionality. Recording, activation, professional review and diagnosis are separate steps. Chest pain, fainting, severe shortness of breath or suspected heart attack requires emergency care; do not wait for a gadget result.

Setup and sharing
Setup, tutorials, profile selection, history and sharing depend on the Withings app. BeamO cannot be configured from a computer. It supports iOS 18 or later and Android 12 or later, and data can integrate with Apple Health, Google Health Connect and Google Fit. Families should select the correct person before each reading, while older users may need help pairing and positioning.

The digital stethoscope is the weak link
BeamO’s piezoelectric sensor covers 20–400 Hz for heart sounds, 60–600 Hz for lung sounds and a 20–1,000 Hz wide range. In practice, the user must hold the device at appropriate chest locations without moving or speaking. Clothing, room noise, insufficient contact and excess pressure can ruin a recording. The FDA expressly says the stethoscope is not intended for self-diagnosis; the useful scenario is capturing a recording a clinician has requested for telehealth review.
Wareable’s three-week hands-on review found the thermometer, ECG and pulse-oximeter readings generally consistent but called the stethoscope audio disappointing and BeamO’s weakest function. That is practical reviewer evidence, not a broad clinical-validation study. Wareable review

Battery, portability and subscription
Withings quotes approximately eight months of battery life and about one hour to recharge. The small rechargeable form factor is useful for travel, a shared family drawer or a caregiver’s kit, but the smartphone requirement remains. The product page includes a one-month Withings+ trial. Basic measurements, trends and stored data are available without a paid subscription; Withings promotes deeper services such as Cardio Check-Up, including cardiologist ECG review within 24 hours, as a Withings+ feature. How accurate is it?
Separate official specifications from real-world experience. The temperature figures above come from the product and regulatory documentation. Wareable’s reviewer considered the thermometer, ECG and pulse-oximeter results generally consistent during testing, while criticizing stethoscope audio. Neither source supports treating a normal reading as proof that serious disease is absent.

BeamO compared with alternatives
| If your priority is… | Consider | Why BeamO may or may not fit |
|---|---|---|
| ECG only | AliveCor KardiaMobile | More focused on portable ECG; lacks BeamO’s thermometer and stethoscope combination |
| Smartwatch ecosystem | Apple Watch | Adds wearable activity and notification features; does not provide BeamO’s handheld thermometer and stethoscope |
| Blood-pressure tracking | Withings BPM Connect | Better matched to hypertension monitoring; not a substitute for BeamO’s other functions |
| Respiratory diagnosis | Clinician-directed equipment and care | Do not buy BeamO expecting its stethoscope to identify pneumonia, asthma, bronchitis or heart disease |
Who should buy BeamO?
- Families and caregivers who want shared histories in one app.
- Travelers who value one compact rechargeable device.
- People whose clinician may use ECG or auscultation recordings during remote care.
- Households that do not already own reliable individual devices.
Who should skip it?
- U.S. buyers who specifically need immediately available SpO₂ or AFib detection.
- Anyone who mainly needs a thermometer or already owns an ECG-capable watch and dependable thermometer.
- Buyers seeking a dedicated, highly reliable pulse oximeter or blood-pressure monitor.
- Anyone expecting the stethoscope to interpret sounds or replace an examination.
- People unwilling to use a smartphone and Withings account for setup and history.
Bottom line
BeamO is worth $249.95 when consolidation, portability and clinician-friendly records matter more than best-in-category performance from each sensor. For U.S. buyers, purchase it as a thermometer-plus-ECG-and-recording platform, not as a fully enabled four-function diagnostic device. Its stethoscope can support a clinician-guided telehealth workflow, but it is not a convincing reason to buy the product on its own.
