Is 121,000 a confirmed Steam peak or record?
Not on the evidence available from the official materials cited here. The product page, announcement and launch notice do not publish a 121,000 concurrent-player figure or a historical Steam-record comparison. Treat both the number and the claim that it is a record as unverified unless a direct, documented Steam data source supports them.

A concurrent-player peak counts people playing at the same time; it is not a measure of total sales or unique players. To substantiate a record claim, a report needs a dated peak from a source that tracks concurrent Steam players and a clearly defined comparison set. Without those details, “breaks Steam record” goes beyond what the publisher has confirmed.
Do existing owners need to buy the remaster again?
CD PROJEKT RED says owners of qualifying versions can upgrade for free within the applicable platform ecosystem. It also says the base game now includes Hearts of Stone and Blood and Wine, and that existing base-game owners gain access to both expansions at no extra cost. Eligibility and upgrade steps can vary by platform and edition, so check the publisher’s upgrade instructions before purchasing another copy.
For someone who does not already own the game, the publisher describes The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt — Complete Edition as including the base game and both expansions. Confirm the edition and current availability in the relevant storefront before buying.

What the early PC hotfix does—and does not—show
A CD PROJEKT RED PC hotfix notice dated October 1, 2026, lists several fixes and says a change associated with HairWorks performance and visual issues was reverted. That documents a specific post-launch adjustment; by itself, it does not establish a general verdict about the remaster’s stability or performance across platforms. How this release differs from the earlier next-generation edition
CD PROJEKT RED also announced a next-generation edition in 2020, with visual and technical improvements and a free update for owners on specified platforms. That earlier announcement concerns a separate release and should not be used as evidence for the 2026 remaster’s Steam player count or record status.
