If live chat is disabled on a YouTube broadcast scheduled through Wirecast, check the event’s settings in YouTube Studio first. In the Live Control Room, open the scheduled event, select Edit > Live Chat, and make sure Enable live chat is selected. Wirecast sends and configures the broadcast; YouTube Studio controls whether chat is available.
Enable live chat on the scheduled YouTube event
- Sign in to YouTube Studio and open the Live section to find the scheduled broadcast in the Live Control Room.
- Select the correct event, then choose Edit > Live Chat.
- Turn on Enable live chat, if the option is available, and save the change.
YouTube says live chat can be switched on or off at any time, including after an event has started. If the option is already on—or unavailable—continue with the eligibility and restriction checks below. YouTube Help: Use Live Chat

Check what “disabled” means
First distinguish between chat not appearing for viewers, viewers being unable to send messages, and the broadcast itself not going live. The first two point toward chat settings or restrictions; a broadcast that is not live calls for checking the event and Wirecast output as well.
Check audience and channel restrictions
Made for Kids setting
If the event or channel audience is set as Made for Kids, YouTube disables live chat, chat replay, and Super Chat. Check the audience setting for the scheduled content in Studio. If the designation is accurate, changing Wirecast settings will not restore chat. YouTube Help: Set your channel or video’s audience

Live-streaming eligibility
YouTube requires a verified channel with no live-streaming restriction in the preceding 90 days to live stream. This is a condition for streaming eligibility, not a rule that independently explains every disabled-chat indicator. Age, policy, or copyright restrictions
YouTube says chat may be disabled on streams featuring 13–15-year-olds who are not visibly accompanied by an adult. Policy violations, copyright issues, or other channel or stream restrictions may also affect availability. Review the notices shown in Studio and follow YouTube’s listed appeal or resolution route where available; the precise cause for an individual channel can only be determined from its account notices and status.

When to check Wirecast
Wirecast matters when the scheduled event is missing, the stream is not live, or the broadcast is going to the wrong destination. Check the YouTube account connection, selected event, destination, and output configuration in Wirecast, then confirm that the same event appears in Studio. If the setting is unavailable or does not work
- Refresh the event in Studio and verify that you are editing the intended scheduled broadcast.
- Look for a channel or stream notice explaining an audience, age, policy, copyright, or live-streaming restriction.
- If Studio indicates a restriction, use the appeal or resolution route shown there. A Wirecast setting cannot override a YouTube restriction.
- If the broadcast itself cannot be scheduled or sent after checking the destination and output, contact Telestream through its support center or the in-app support ticket workflow.
