Check whether you can upgrade for free first
If your PC runs genuine Windows 10 version 2004 or later and meets Windows 11’s hardware requirements, Microsoft says it may be eligible for a free upgrade through Windows Update. Check eligibility before buying another license; the offer may be unnecessary if your device qualifies. Microsoft’s Windows 11 specifications page recommends using the PC Health Check app or consulting your PC maker’s compatibility information.

Will your PC run Windows 11?
Microsoft’s minimum requirements include all of the following:
- A 1 GHz or faster processor with at least two cores, on a compatible 64-bit processor or system on a chip (SoC).
- At least 4 GB of RAM and 64 GB of storage.
- UEFI firmware with Secure Boot capability and TPM 2.0.
- DirectX 12-compatible graphics with a WDDM 2.0 driver.
- A high-definition display larger than 9 inches diagonally.
For personal use, Windows 11 Home and Pro also require an internet connection and a Microsoft account during initial setup. A PC that meets the basic figures may still fail compatibility checks—for example, because its processor is not on the compatible list. Use PC Health Check or the PC maker’s guidance rather than relying on the minimum numbers alone. Microsoft also lists a separate NPU performance requirement for Copilot+ PCs; that is not a general Windows 11 requirement.

What to verify before buying a license
Compare these details on the actual offer page and checkout screen. The available search-result information does not establish them for the $7.97 deal:

- Current checkout price: Confirm the final amount rather than relying on a search snippet or advertised discount.
Microsoft says genuine Windows is properly licensed and supported by Microsoft or a trusted partner, and describes buying from Microsoft or a store you know and trust as the safest option. How Windows activation works—and what it does not prove
Windows activation uses either a digital license or a 25-character product key. Microsoft says the installed edition must match the license. For a boxed copy purchased from an authorized retailer, Microsoft documents using the product key to activate Windows. See Microsoft’s activation instructions.
Activation is not a guarantee that a copy is genuine. Microsoft explains that activation pairs a key or digital entitlement with a device’s hardware configuration; it does not evaluate the copy’s authenticity. If a very cheap key activates successfully, that result alone does not settle whether the license is properly sourced or what support and transfer rights apply.
When a retail copy may suit you better
If you prefer a packaged retail product, Microsoft documents a product-key activation path for boxed copies bought from authorized retailers. That is different from the advertised digital deal: no particular retail listing, seller, or current price has been checked here. Confirm the retailer and product terms directly before buying.
