Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitches2Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errors3Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minuteTo enable Windows 11 lock-screen fun facts, open Start > Settings > Personalization > Lock screen. Under Personalize your lock screen, choose Windows spotlight, then switch on Get Fun Facts, Tips, Tricks, and More on Your Lock Screen. Microsoft says Spotlight can show rotating images, tips, tricks, and notifications. Microsoft’s lock-screen instructions document the same path.
Enable the setting step by step
The control is in the Windows 11 Settings app, not in the Widgets panel or the Microsoft Store. Follow these steps:

- Open Settings. Select Start, then choose Settings. You can also search for “Settings” from Start.
- Open the lock-screen page. Select Personalization, then Lock screen.
- Choose the Spotlight background. In Personalize your lock screen, open the background menu and select Windows spotlight.
- Enable the additional content. Turn on Get Fun Facts, Tips, Tricks, and More on Your Lock Screen. The same label appears in Microsoft’s Windows Backup Settings Catalog, which lists it under the Personalization and Lock screen settings. See Microsoft’s settings catalog.
Once configured, Windows Spotlight supplies the lock-screen background and may place Microsoft tips, tricks, fun facts, or notifications alongside it. The exact item shown changes over time because Spotlight is designed around rotating content rather than one permanent image.
What Windows Spotlight displays
Microsoft describes Windows Spotlight as displaying “a rotating set of images from Microsoft, along with tips, tricks, and notifications.” That makes Spotlight different from a static wallpaper: the image and the accompanying text are part of a connected Windows experience. Microsoft’s overview of Windows connected experiences also notes that Spotlight can display changing images and dynamic text, including Windows tips and Microsoft account notifications. Read Microsoft’s connected-experiences explanation.

The fun-facts switch is an additional-content preference. It does not create a separate app, desktop widget, or notification feed that you open from Start. The material appears as part of the lock-screen experience when Spotlight is selected.
Choose the right lock-screen background
Windows 11 offers three background choices in the same Personalization page. Only Spotlight is described by Microsoft as combining rotating Microsoft images with tips, tricks, and notifications.
| Choice | How the background behaves | Relationship to fun facts |
|---|---|---|
| Windows spotlight | Shows a rotating set of images from Microsoft and can include tips, tricks, and notifications. | Use this choice for the “Get Fun Facts, Tips, Tricks, and More on Your Lock Screen” setting. |
| Picture | Uses one image that you choose. | It is not the Spotlight experience described for rotating tips and notifications. |
| Slideshow | Cycles through images from folders on your device. | It is a device-image rotation mode rather than Microsoft’s Spotlight content feed. |
If your priority is one personal photograph or a predictable folder of images, Picture or Slideshow may be preferable. If you want Microsoft’s changing images and lock-screen text, select Windows spotlight before enabling the fun-facts option. These distinctions are summarized in Microsoft’s lock-screen guide.

Fun facts and lock-screen widgets are separate controls
Windows 11 also has lock-screen widgets, but they are not the same feature as Spotlight fun facts. Both are managed from Settings > Personalization > Lock screen, which can make them easy to confuse.
- Spotlight fun facts: controlled by the Get Fun Facts, Tips, Tricks, and More on Your Lock Screen switch after you select Windows spotlight.
- Lock-screen widgets: managed through the widgets controls on that page. Microsoft says you can review available widgets, remove them, customize them when the provider supports customization, and add widgets from the available catalog.
Changing a widget does not substitute for enabling Spotlight, and enabling the fun-facts option does not configure the widget catalog. Treat them as two independent parts of the lock screen. Microsoft documents both controls on its customization page.
Check the result without changing other personalization settings
After completing the four steps, return to the Lock screen page and confirm that Windows spotlight remains selected and the named fun-facts switch is on. This check is useful because selecting Picture or Slideshow later changes the background mode, while the additional-content preference is intended for the Spotlight experience.

Spotlight content is dynamic. A particular fact, tip, image, or notification is not guaranteed to appear every time you view the lock screen. Microsoft’s description covers the type of content Spotlight can present, not a fixed schedule or a guaranteed sequence.

Microsoft’s published instructions confirm the setting and its location, but they do not establish that the label appears on every Windows edition, build, language, or organization-managed device. If you cannot find it, avoid assuming one specific cause.
- Open Settings > Personalization > Lock screen again and look under Personalize your lock screen.
- Confirm that you are viewing the Windows 11 lock-screen settings and that the background choices include the current Windows spotlight option.
- Check the Windows version and build shown in your device’s system information, then compare the available lock-screen controls with Microsoft’s current documentation.
- If the device belongs to a school or workplace, remember that organization configuration can affect which settings are exposed; the cited Microsoft pages do not identify a universal policy or a single fix for that situation.
- If Spotlight is available but the additional-content label is not, use the controls that are actually present rather than changing unrelated personalization or widget settings.
These checks distinguish a missing control from a widget configuration issue. Microsoft does not provide a single documented explanation that covers every edition, language, build, or managed-device scenario, so the available options on the specific PC remain important.

Turn the content off or change modes
To stop using the fun-facts experience, return to Settings > Personalization > Lock screen and choose another background mode, such as Picture or Slideshow. If you keep Windows spotlight but no longer want the additional text, switch off Get Fun Facts, Tips, Tricks, and More on Your Lock Screen. You can manage widgets separately on the same page.
Changing these choices affects the lock-screen presentation; it does not require buying hardware, installing a separate utility, or subscribing to a service. The feature is part of Windows 11’s built-in personalization controls.
