“WS1 24H2” is not a Microsoft release name. The wording appears to refer to Windows 11, version 24H2, Microsoft’s official designation. The update adds practical networking, accessibility, power-management, security and file-management changes, while several headline-grabbing capabilities are limited to Copilot+ PCs or delivered gradually. Microsoft’s official overview does not substantiate an “AI-Powered Task Manager” or “Dynamic Refresh Rate 2.0,” so those labels should not be treated as guaranteed Windows features.
First, resolve the “WS1 24H2” naming problem
A December 22, 2024 article from Digital Tech & Productivity Tips used the phrase “WS1 24H2” and described the release as a game-changer. Microsoft’s documentation calls the release Windows 11, version 24H2. Microsoft has not confirmed “WS1” as an edition, codename or alternate name. In practical terms, a reader searching for WS1 24H2 should look for Windows 11 24H2 in Windows Update, Settings and Microsoft Support.

This distinction matters because feature lists attached to the WS1 wording mix confirmed changes with labels that are not present in Microsoft’s official 24H2 overview. Treat the Microsoft-documented capabilities below as the dependable baseline. A feature can still be absent from your computer because of hardware requirements, an account or driver dependency, or Microsoft’s phased rollout.

The following capabilities are listed in Microsoft’s Windows 11 version 24H2 update information. Their appearance is not simultaneous on every machine; Microsoft uses staged availability and may hold a feature back while it validates a particular device configuration.
#1 Best Overall
- STREAMLIMED AND INTUITIVE UI | Intelligent desktop | Personalize your experience for simpler efficiency | Powerful security built-in and enabled.
- JOIN YOUR BUSINESS OR SCHOOL DOMAIN for easy access to network files, servers, and printers.
- OEM IS TO BE INSTALLED ON A NEW PC WITH NO PRIOR VERSION of Windows installed and cannot be transferred to another machine.
- OEM DOES NOT PROVIDE PRODUCT SUPPORT | To acquire product with Microsoft support, obtain the full packaged “Retail” version.
| Capability | What it changes | What you need to check |
|---|---|---|
| Wi-Fi 7 support | Windows can work with compatible Wi-Fi 7 hardware and networks, enabling access to that newer wireless standard. | Your PC needs a Wi-Fi 7 radio or compatible adapter, current drivers and a Wi-Fi 7-capable router or access point. |
| Bluetooth LE Audio enhancements | Improves support for Bluetooth Low Energy Audio, including assistive-hearing-device scenarios. | Headset or hearing device support, Bluetooth hardware and drivers determine which functions appear. |
| Taskbar and File Explorer enhancements | Refines everyday navigation and file-management behavior in the shell. | Exact changes can arrive at different times under the phased rollout. |
| Smart power management | Adds power-management improvements intended to help Windows manage energy use more intelligently. | Results depend on the PC’s processor, firmware, battery and selected power mode; Microsoft does not provide a universal battery-life figure. |
| QR-code Wi-Fi sharing | Lets you share saved Wi-Fi access information through a QR code instead of manually reading a password. | The option must be present in your build, and the receiving device must be able to scan and use the network details. |
| Wi-Fi privacy controls | Provides more control over when apps can access information about nearby Wi-Fi networks. | Review the permission setting in Windows privacy controls and decide which apps genuinely need network-discovery access. |
| Voice Clarity across devices | Extends Microsoft’s voice-processing capability beyond a narrow set of supported hardware, improving clarity in supported calls and recordings. | Availability and effect vary with the microphone, drivers, application and device support. |
| Sudo for Windows | Provides a way to run an elevated command from a normal command-line session, reducing the need to open a separate administrator window for some tasks. | Use it only when you understand the command’s privilege requirements; elevation still carries the same security risk as any administrator action. |
| Remote Desktop connectivity and accessibility improvements | Updates the experience for connecting to and using remote Windows systems, with additional accessibility attention. | Both the local and remote editions, network policy and organization settings can limit what is available. |
Wi-Fi 7 is a platform capability, not an automatic speed upgrade
Installing 24H2 does not turn an older Wi-Fi 5 or Wi-Fi 6 radio into Wi-Fi 7. The operating system supplies support, but the wireless chipset, driver, router and regional spectrum rules still determine the connection you get. If your computer lacks built-in Wi-Fi 7, a compatible USB adapter could be an option; Microsoft’s overview does not name a model or guarantee that every USB adapter will work. Check the adapter’s Windows 11 driver, your PC’s USB specification and your router’s compatibility before buying anything.
Bluetooth LE Audio is most relevant to supported devices
LE Audio is not simply a switch that improves every Bluetooth headset. The headphones, hearing device or other accessory must support the relevant LE Audio profiles, and the PC’s Bluetooth hardware and driver must expose them. If a device continues to use classic Bluetooth, 24H2 will not change its underlying audio mode.
Features reserved for Copilot+ PCs
Microsoft separately identifies several 24H2 capabilities as exclusive to Copilot+ PCs. A Copilot+ label refers to a class of Windows 11 computers with the required neural-processing hardware and Microsoft’s eligibility requirements; it does not describe every PC that can install 24H2.
| Copilot+ capability | Purpose | Availability boundary |
|---|---|---|
| Live Captions | Creates captions for supported audio and speech scenarios. | Requires a Copilot+ PC and the applicable Windows language and feature support. |
| Cocreator in Paint | Uses an entered description and drawing input to help generate or refine an image in Paint. | Copilot+ PC exclusive; the feature may also depend on app version, account and rollout status. |
| Windows Studio Effects | Provides camera and microphone effects such as framing or voice processing on supported hardware. | Requires the eligible Copilot+ processing platform and compatible camera or microphone paths. |
| Auto Super Resolution | Uses system intelligence to improve visual resolution in supported games or applications. | Copilot+ PC exclusive and limited to supported titles, graphics hardware and settings. |
| Image Creator | Generates images from a text description in supported Microsoft applications. | Requires an eligible Copilot+ PC and the relevant app and service availability. |
| Restyle Image | Applies a described visual style to an existing image. | Copilot+ PC exclusive, with availability governed by the app and staged release. |
If one of these options is missing, first confirm whether the computer is actually a Copilot+ PC. A standard Windows 11 laptop can be fully up to date and still not receive a Copilot+ exclusive feature. Microsoft can also release an eligible feature in waves, so two Copilot+ PCs on the same version may temporarily show different menus.

Claims that should not be mistaken for confirmed 24H2 features
The WS1 headline highlights an “AI-Powered Task Manager,” “Energy Efficiency Mode,” “Dynamic Refresh Rate 2.0,” Start Menu themes and enhanced voice control. Microsoft’s official 24H2 overview retrieved for this release does not verify those labels as named Windows 11 24H2 features.
- AI-Powered Task Manager: Do not assume Task Manager has a new AI assistant or automatic diagnosis panel solely because a third-party headline says so. Open Task Manager and check the controls actually present in your build.
- Energy Efficiency Mode: Microsoft does document smart power management, but that is broader than a separately named mode with guaranteed controls or battery gains. The available options depend on your hardware and Windows power settings.
- Dynamic Refresh Rate 2.0: The official overview does not establish a feature by that name. Refresh-rate behavior remains dependent on the display, graphics driver, firmware and Windows display settings.
- Start Menu themes: Theme options can change through Windows personalization updates, but the 24H2 overview does not confirm a specific new Start Menu theme system matching the headline’s description.
- Enhanced voice control: 24H2 does list Voice Clarity, which is audio processing for supported devices. That is not proof of a completely new voice-control engine.
This does not prove that no later Windows update will introduce similar functions. It means those exact labels should be verified in Microsoft’s documentation and in your installed build before you plan around them.
How to verify that your PC is running 24H2
- Check the version: Press
Windows + R, enterwinver, and press Enter. The dialog should identify Windows 11 and show version 24H2 when the update is installed. - Check Settings: Open Settings > System > About and review Windows specifications. Record the edition as well as the version; Home, Pro, Enterprise and Education have different support boundaries.
- Check Windows Update: Go to Settings > Windows Update, select Check for updates, and install the offered feature update and cumulative updates. Restart when Windows requests it.
- Confirm optional drivers: In Settings > Windows Update > Advanced options > Optional updates, review hardware drivers. Install only drivers appropriate for your PC and keep a restore or recovery path available.
- Recheck after restarting: Some shell, audio and networking changes appear only after a reboot. If the version remains earlier than 24H2, Microsoft may not yet have offered the feature update to your device.
A practical way to decide whether a feature applies to you
| Question | If the answer is yes | If the answer is no |
|---|---|---|
| Is the feature marked Copilot+ PC exclusive? | Verify that your computer meets Copilot+ requirements and that the option has reached your build. | A normal 24H2 installation may be sufficient. |
| Has Microsoft delivered it to your device? | Look for the setting or app update after restarting. | Wait for staged availability rather than forcing an unverified package. |
| Does it require special hardware? | Check the radio, display, microphone, camera, processor and driver requirements. | The operating-system update alone cannot provide the missing capability. |
| Does it depend on network equipment? | Confirm the router, access point, account and local policy support it. | Use the existing standard or feature until compatible equipment is available. |
Where to find and use the confirmed changes
Share a Wi-Fi network with a QR code
When QR sharing is available on your build, open the Wi-Fi controls from the taskbar or the network section in Settings, select the connected network and look for the share or QR option. Have the other device scan the displayed code. Treat the code as a credential: anyone who can see it may be able to join the network. Use this method on a trusted screen and regenerate or change the network password if it is exposed publicly.
Review Wi-Fi privacy access
Open Settings > Privacy & security and inspect the Wi-Fi or network-discovery permission controls available on your installation. Turn off access for apps that do not need to discover nearby networks. A navigation label can differ by build, so use Settings search for “Wi-Fi” or “privacy” if the exact entry is not visible.

Try Voice Clarity in a supported call
Update the audio driver, connect the intended microphone and test Voice Clarity in a supported calling or recording application. Compare the result with the effect disabled, because aggressive processing can alter music, multiple speakers or ambient sound. If no toggle appears, the microphone, driver, app or staged rollout may not support it yet.
Use Sudo carefully
Sudo is intended for command-line elevation. Before enabling or using it, read the command you are about to run and verify the target path. An elevated command can modify protected files, services and security settings. Keep ordinary work in a non-administrator shell and elevate only the single operation that requires it.
Check taskbar and File Explorer changes
Install the latest cumulative update, restart Windows and test the taskbar and File Explorer with a normal folder and a removable drive. If a behavior described online is absent, it may be a later shell update rather than a universal 24H2 change. Avoid registry modifications advertised as a way to unlock unreleased interface features.

Why a feature may be missing after installation
- Staged rollout: Microsoft may withhold a capability from a device until compatibility checks complete.
- Edition or hardware boundary: Copilot+ functions and hardware-dependent networking features have requirements that a standard PC cannot meet.
- Driver or firmware issue: Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, audio and display functions rely on current manufacturer drivers and firmware.
- Application dependency: Features such as Cocreator, Live Captions or Voice Clarity can require an updated app, language pack or supported call path.
- Organization policy: A work or school administrator can defer feature updates, block permissions or disable remote-access functions.
Use Windows Update history, your PC maker’s support page and Microsoft’s current feature documentation to identify the applicable boundary. Do not download unofficial “feature unlockers,” because they can introduce malware or leave the system in an unsupported state.

Support dates you should know
Microsoft’s September 22, 2026 support information lists different end dates for Windows 11 version 24H2 editions. As of October 18, 2026, the Home and Pro date below has passed, so owners should verify their current servicing status and upgrade path immediately rather than assuming 24H2 will continue receiving updates.
| Windows 11 24H2 edition | Microsoft-listed end of updates | What to do |
|---|---|---|
| Home | October 13, 2026 | Check Windows Update and Microsoft’s current lifecycle page for the supported successor version. |
| Pro | October 13, 2026 | Confirm the installed edition and move to a supported release if updates are no longer offered. |
| Enterprise | October 12, 2027 | Follow your organization’s servicing ring and verify its specific policy. |
| Education | October 12, 2027 | Coordinate with the school or institution’s update schedule. |
Lifecycle dates apply to the edition, not merely the words “Windows 11 24H2” in a headline. Microsoft can revise servicing information, and organizations may use different release channels, so check the edition shown by winver before making a support decision.
Should you install or pursue 24H2?
For a compatible Windows 11 PC, 24H2 is most valuable when you need its documented networking, accessibility, power, shell or command-line improvements. Check backups, available storage, device-driver compatibility and any work-managed update policy before starting. If your priority is Copilot+ image, captioning or graphics features, first verify that the PC is genuinely Copilot+ capable; installing 24H2 on a conventional machine will not add those functions.
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problems2Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitches3Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errorsDo not buy hardware simply because a headline promises hidden features. A Wi-Fi 7 adapter makes sense only when your PC lacks the standard, your router can use it and the adapter has a supported Windows 11 driver. For every other capability, confirm the requirement in Settings and Microsoft’s current documentation first.
