When does Windows 11 24H2 support end?
Microsoft says Windows 11 version 24H2 Home and Pro editions reach the end of updates on October 13, 2026. After that date, affected devices no longer receive monthly security and preview updates, fixes for known issues, time-zone updates, or technical support for that version. The PC does not stop working on the deadline, but remaining on an unsupported edition means going without those updates and fixes. How do I check which Windows 11 version and edition I have?
- Open Settings.
- Select System, then About.
- Read the Windows specifications for your edition and version. Confirm whether the edition is Home, Pro, Enterprise, or Education, and whether the version is 24H2.
The October 13, 2026 deadline is specifically for 24H2 Home and Pro. If your device is managed by an employer or school, check with its IT administrator before changing versions.

How do I upgrade from Windows 11 24H2?
- Open Settings > Windows Update.
- Select Check for updates.
- If Windows Update offers Windows 11, version 25H2 and you are ready to install it, select Download and install.
- Follow the on-screen prompts and restart when convenient to complete the update.
Microsoft’s release-health guidance says eligible devices can check availability through Windows Update, and the 25H2 offer appears when the device is ready. The offer is device-specific, so not every PC will see it at the same time. If 25H2 is not listed, that alone does not prove the PC is unsupported; try again later or, for a managed device, ask your IT administrator. Will Windows 11 update automatically?
Microsoft says unmanaged Home and Pro devices running 24H2 receive the 25H2 update automatically. Users can choose when to restart or postpone it. This guidance is for that defined group; it is not a promise that every device configuration or IT-managed PC will update automatically. Managed devices may follow an organization’s update policies.

Is Windows 11 26H1 the upgrade from 24H2?
No. Microsoft scopes Windows 11 26H1 to new devices; it is not offered as an in-place feature update from 24H2 or 25H2 on existing devices. For a current 24H2 PC, use the version Windows Update actually offers rather than expecting 26H1 to appear.
