What changes on October 13, 2026?
Microsoft’s Windows 11 release-health page states that “Windows 11, version 24H2 Home and Pro editions will reach end of updates on October 13, 2026.” That is the date behind the “today” framing here. Microsoft’s Windows 11 release-information table also lists October 13, 2026 for 24H2 Home and Pro. Microsoft’s release-health notice explains what the milestone means.

End of updates is a support-lifecycle milestone, not a shutdown. The PC can continue to run Windows, but Microsoft says affected devices no longer receive fixes for known issues, time-zone updates, technical support, or monthly security and preview updates that include protections against the latest security threats.

Microsoft’s separate Windows 11 Home and Pro lifecycle page displays October 14, 2026 for 24H2 and notes that support dates are shown in Pacific Time. The release-health guidance and release-information table show October 13. Treat these as differing date displays across Microsoft pages; the release-health page is the clearest source for the October 13 end-of-updates notice.

How to keep receiving updates
Microsoft recommends moving affected 24H2 Home and Pro devices to a supported Windows release. For eligible devices, Windows Update offers Windows 11 version 25H2 when the device is ready.
- Open Settings > Windows Update.
- Select Check for updates.
- If the PC is eligible and ready, look for Download and install for Windows 11 version 25H2, then follow the on-screen prompts.
- Choose when to restart if prompted. Microsoft says users can choose the restart timing or postpone it.
The offer may not appear immediately on every PC: Microsoft conditions it on eligibility and device readiness. Unmanaged Home and Pro devices running 24H2 are set to receive 25H2 automatically, but users retain the ability to choose when to restart or postpone the update.

What 25H2 means for support
Microsoft lists Windows 11 version 25H2 as available on September 30, 2025. Its release-information table gives Home and Pro an end-of-updates date of October 12, 2027. These are Microsoft’s listed dates; they do not establish that every device will be offered the update at the same time.

If Windows Update does not show 25H2
- Confirm the PC is running Windows 11 version 24H2 and check again under Settings > Windows Update.
- If the offer is still absent, the device may not yet be considered eligible or ready by Windows Update. Microsoft’s guidance does not promise an immediate offer for every PC.
- Use Microsoft’s built-in Windows Update route rather than assuming new installation media, repair software, or a replacement PC is required; the cited guidance identifies no such purchase as necessary.
Microsoft’s Windows message center also published a 30-day reminder on September 14, 2026, ahead of the 24H2 Home and Pro end-of-updates date. The reminder and release guidance point users toward updating to a supported release.
