There is no verified evidence that Steam Deck 2 will “run circles” around current handheld consoles. The claim has not been tied to an identified leaker or original publication in the available reporting, and Valve has not announced a successor’s specifications, price, or release date. Any performance comparison is speculation, not a benchmark.
What does “run circles” mean here?
It is a performance claim, not a measured result. No named speaker, original post, or attributable quotation behind the headline wording has been verified. There are also no public head-to-head tests of Steam Deck 2 against handhelds available today, so the phrase cannot be treated as evidence of a real performance advantage.

What is actually known about Steam Deck 2?
Valve has not announced a successor’s product name, chip, memory design, price, retail model, or release date. A secondary report describes the product goal as a substantial performance improvement while preserving battery life, but provides no numeric target. That is reported design intent, not a confirmed specification or launch commitment. [c001]
How reliable are the chip and launch rumors?
The report says the codename “Gainsborough” appeared in AMD-related materials and a shipping-manifest reference. Neither Valve nor AMD has confirmed that it refers to a Steam Deck 2 chip. Proposed CPU and GPU architectures, manufacturing process, and a possible 2027–2028 window are unverified leak claims—not official hardware details or a release schedule. [c001]

How should a real comparison be made?
A chip name alone cannot show how a handheld will perform. A meaningful comparison would need devices tested under comparable conditions, including the game, resolution, and power limits. It should also account for battery life under the same workload, display characteristics, software and game compatibility, portability, and current price. No such Steam Deck 2 comparison is available because its specifications and performance have not been established.
Independent reader supportYour contribution helps us test, update, and keep practical guides available for everyone. What can buyers compare today?
The current Steam Deck OLED is a real device readers can assess against other handhelds. It is a current-generation comparison only; its features and performance do not establish what a successor will offer. A future Steam Deck should be judged on confirmed specifications and independent tests once those exist, rather than on an unidentified leaker’s unsourced “run circles” claim.
