No. The National Weather Service forecast retrieved on October 3, 2026, did not call for record-breaking heat in Portland: East Portland Metro was forecast to reach about 66°F on Sunday, with showers likely overnight. Monday’s forecast high was about 62°F, with rain.
What Portland’s forecast said for this weekend
The National Weather Service’s East Portland Metro point forecast showed mostly cloudy skies and a Sunday high near 66°F, followed by showers likely overnight. For Monday, it forecast a high near 62°F and rain. These are forecast values from the October 3, 2026 retrieval, not observed temperatures; check the NWS East Portland Metro point forecast for updates.
Why the “October heat wave” headline can be misleading
The NWS Portland office page updated October 3 discussed a potentially record-breaking October heat wave in California and excessive-rainfall risk in the Southeast. It did not forecast heat in Portland. The location matters: a regional headline about California is not a Portland forecast. Portland did set a heat record earlier in 2026
Portland’s heat record in June is separate from the October weekend forecast. The NWS record report says Portland reached 94°F on June 14, 2026, breaking the previous June 14 daily record of 89°F set in 1988. That verified record does not indicate that another record was expected in October. The NWS Portland record report documents the June reading.

Earlier that month, OPB covered forecasts of 95–100°F for the Portland-Vancouver area and local heat-response planning. Those forecasts concerned the June heat event, not this October weekend. Read OPB’s June report in that context.
How to check for a change in the forecast
Weather predictions and alerts can change. Before making plans, check the NWS point forecast and active alerts for the specific Portland-area location you care about. Note the forecast’s issuance or update time, and distinguish daytime highs from overnight conditions; a forecast is not the same as a measured daily record.
